    Located in in the heart of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina in Black Mountain on a picturesque 1,200 acre campus, the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly is a non-profit conference and retreat center. Having hosted our first conference over 100 years ago, we continue to serve a diverse array of groups—churches, schools, colleges, family reunions and youth groups, among others.  As a hospitality-focused YMCA, we are committed to delivering exceptional experiences for our 30,000 annual guests while developing a team of values-driven leaders.

    Program

    Our program is "put your hands on", and is a great opportunity for young people to develop several skills in different areas under the hospitality industry. The program will take place in different departments such as food service, housekeeping, out-door programs, grounds keeping and maintenance, and conference services. The YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly will provide all the training, for each different department, where the staff will work. The position will have a home department with the possibility of being cross-training in other departments as needed.The period of the program would be during the Winter of 2018 and Spring of 2019. Average of 35 hours per week.

    Description

    YMCA of Blue Ridge Assembly is currently seeking an experienced barista for our Starbucks Café. This opportunity will also provide the experience to work in our dining room. If you enjoy serving coffee, meeting people, and offering world class service, apply now! Applicant must be able to provide fast, courteous and efficient service. Work in unison with one to two other employees (or possibly alone during our slower season) by taking customer orders, accurately filling those orders promptly, taking customer payment and accurately making change or accepting signatures. In addition, this position will work in a variety of assignments such as dining room service, table side service, cleaning dining tables and floors and dish washing.

     Qualifications and Skills

    • All candidates must be outgoing, courteous and customer-oriented and possess strong organizational and communication skills
    • All candidates must be physically fit and mentally sharp
    • All work must be completed with attention to detail, speed, accuracy and neatness
    • Must be willing to work a variety of different shifts, including mornings, evenings and weekends
    • Valid Driver’s license (preferable) 

    Responsibilities

    • Communicating and working with other departments to provide for a seamless and pleasant guest experience
    • As the program say “hands on” and not a desk job. It often involves long periods of physically demanding work, so physical strength and stamina are required. The ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. and remain on one's feet for long stretches is required.
    • Commitment to the mission of the YMCA and upholding its values and ethics. 
    • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as needed.
    • Excellent, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. 
    • Ability to multitask and work in a team setting
    • Create coffee and tea beverages according to specifications.
    • Position is a fast paced environments requiring the ability to work in different capacities such as dish washing, food preparation, and customer service.

    Compensation and Benefits

    • Work is paid by hour (base on 35 hours/week) paying $245 per week.

    YMCA of Blue Ridge Assembly is currently seeking a Housekeeping Attendant to help facilitate a pleasant guest experience here at out conference retreat center. The position involves cleaning residence and meeting rooms, assisting with daily room service, and cleaning public areas including lobbies, porches and restrooms. It also includes such duties as dusting, vacuuming, making beds, scouring toilets and sinks and assisting with laundry. The applicant must be able to move appliances and furniture, and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

     Qualifications and Skills

    • All candidates must be outgoing, courteous and customer-oriented and possess strong organizational and communication skills
    • All candidates must be physically fit and mentally sharp
    • All work must be completed with attention to detail, speed, accuracy and neatness
    • Must be willing to work a variety of different shifts, including mornings, evenings and weekends
    • Must have a valid driver’s license (preferable)

    YMCA of Blue Ridge Assembly is currently seeking a Conference Services and Audio Visual Tech for our Winter and Spring season here at our conference retreat center! Meet the needs of the conference groups including: setting up and tearing down meeting rooms, lobby areas, playing fields, porches and auditoriums according to specifications, deliver refreshments to guests, and light natural and gas fire pits according to scheduling. This position also involves audio-visual setup of soundboards, microphones, projectors, and other similar equipment according to the needs to our on grounds guests.

    YMCA of Blue Ridge Assembly is currently seeking an experienced groundskeeper and maintenance worker to help maintain our 1,200 acre woodland campus! Maintain well-kept and groomed outdoor spaces, including athletic fields, trails, building entrances and roads. Duties include raking leaves, mowing, weed eating, trimming hedges, maintaining hiking trails, storm damage cleanup, wood splitting, leaf blowing, trash pickup, painting facilities and equipment, and assisting with vehicle upkeep. Duties can also include routine maintenance and repair work. Applicant must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Requires a valid driver’s license.
