  • Breakfast Cook

    The VVR has a need for a seasoned Breakfast Cook:

    Skills and Job Requirements:

    • Ideal candidates will have working knowledge of all line positions, broil, fry, pantry, as well as egg skills.
    • Prep and good knife skills a must.
    • Breakfast is an important meal for our active customers, before they go off to continue their thru-hike or adventurous day activities.
    • Ability to cook and plate 50 to 60 covers per shift.
    • Ability to create lunch specials.
    • Ability to take charge of your kitchen when on-shift.
    • Responsible for proper food handling and storage practices to ensure food safety.
    • Takes direction well and can execute head cooks food style.
    • Self-motivated with good positive can-do energy. Must have the mature personality to work through normal kitchen issues. (collaboration among other staff members is key in this kitchen)

    Benefits:

    • Pay scale is $15.00 - $18.00 Hr.
    • 5 day work week, 2 consecutive days off to explore the John Muir Wilderness, Yosemite & Kings Canyon National Parks, and all that the golden state has to offer.
    • All lodge tips are shared equally among all employees. (Crew-Share Program)
    • Employees must be able to thrive in an off the grid location, work through September (some positions can go into mid Oct), and most importantly; work and play well with others. The Vermilion Valley resort is rated a #1 stop on the JMT and is a top layover spot for the PCT thru-hikers which requires our staff to have excellent customer service skills.   • Dinner Waitstaff / Kitchen Help

    Food and Beverage
    $13.50 / hour + tips

    Our scenic back-country and rustic restaurant features a full service menu offering creative daily specials, hand-cut steaks, fresh out of the valley veggies, and a large selection of CA micro-brews. The VVR is a top layover spot for PCT/JMT thru-hikers which requires our staff to have excellent customer service skills, a positive helpful attitude, and an enthusiastic approach toward cooking and serving.

    We need an experienced and mature wait staff person to handle 5 dinner shifts this summer to feed all our hungry hikers and guests. Hearty, fresh home-style food is what we serve. Our meat and vegetables are sourced locally and we give creative license to our cooks. We are known up and down the trail for our good grub, great micro-brew and wine selection, fresh baked pies, our Saturday night BBQs, and hearty breakfasts. We are a close-knit staff and have a lot of fun, but we work hard during the season. If you are into an off-the-grid challenge we may be a good fit. Work weeks are 40 hours and you take two days off a week.

    Qualifications desired: This position begins early June and will go into Sept/Oct. You must be able to work as the sole wait staff on duty and handle 50 - 60 customers comfortably.  Dinner Menu is set (4-6 choices) with a nightly special. Our cooks work closely with the wait-staff to keep the cafe clean, stocked and orderly. You will also be responsible for maintaining the restaurant during your shift, as well as assisting the cook with food preparation (slicing-chopping fruits and vegetables, preparing salads, gathering ingredients, etc).  The right person is flexible, with a can do attitude. We are looking for a take charge leader.

    Bonus: Tips collected throughout the resort/restaurant are shared by all employees.

    Note, we do provide transportation from Fresno to the lodge for those employees who arrive by public transportation. For the right person we will also assist in their transportation costs.

  • Line Cook

    Employees must be able to thrive in an off the grid location, work through September (some positions can go into mid Oct), and most importantly; work and play well with others.   • Prep Cook

    Food and Beverage
    $14.00 / hour + tips

    This position will start in late May and go to early October.

    The individual we are looking for should have basic restaurant kitchen skills including food handling procedures, organizational and knife skills. Willingness to learn is a must. Position will include assisting kitchen leads with prep, cleaning and occasional shift coverage. Baking experience a plus.

    Our team is here to make great food and enjoy ourselves while working hard - so the ability to focus and adapt while maintaining a positive attitude and energy is a requirement.

  • Cabin & Housekeeping Services

    Guest Services
    $17.00 / hour + tips

    Competent, mature, self-starting housekeeping couple or individuals that are able to work closely together are wanted for our small but busy back-country lodge.

    Housekeeping is a key component to a visitor’s positive experience and we put great emphasis on clean and well organized rooms and tent cabins. Our rustic lodge sits well into the high country and it is fun to surprise our guests with tidy facilities and great food.

    Our housekeeping team shares and is responsible for: 4 - motel rooms, 2 - RV trailers, and 3 - cabins. 

    The Vermilion Valley Resort features a restaurant, store, motel, tent cabins, yurts, water taxi service and marina.

    Qualifications desired: This position begins in late May and will go into Sept/Oct. You will be assigned lodging assignments which become your responsibility, while taking ownership of those responsibilities you must be able to work independently of supervision, and maintain your area. You will collaborate with the on-duty store manager. Our employees take pride in their positions which requires a good can-do and collaborative work attitude.

    Wages: You earn 14.50 an hour and if you complete the contracted season you will be paid an additional $100.00 per week worked.

    You are guaranteed 40 hours per week.

    Bonus: All employees participate in the Crew Share Tip Program. All tips are gathered from within the resort and shared equally among staff. Typically $500.00 or more a month.

    Cost of Living is minimal as you will live and work on-ste. The majority of what you earn will be what you keep because of our remote setting. So, if you are looking to save your paychecks this could be a setting for you.

  • Front Desk / General Store

    Guest Services
    $14.00 / hour + tips

    We are a rustic lodge with a small intimate staff that is in need of an experienced, seasoned individual or couple to handle multiple Front Desk and General Store chores at our main counter. The Vermilion Valley Resort features a restaurant, store, motel, tent cabins, yurt cabin, water taxi service and we have a rental fleet of 12’-14’ Honda powered 4-stroke fishing boats as well as SUP's and Kayaks..

    Qualifications desired: This position requires that you are first and foremost an ambassador for the property. We welcome our guests whether they hike in or drive in and get them started on what the next steps are after they arrive. This is a position for someone who thrives on multitasking and loves personal interactions.

    The individual(s) chosen for this key position are drug- free, non-smokers and will report directly to the manager or owners. Working knowledge of computers, ability to multi-task, and pleasant attitude is a must. The ability to diagnose problems, prioritize and handle critical pressure situations is required. This is an active front-line position.

    You will handle cash, credit cards, and guest tabs. We require all our staff to have excellent customer service skills, a nice appearance coupled with a positive attitude, and packaged with a lot of fun energy. Our ultimate goal is to provide every guest with a quality stay. Many of our guests are regulars and VVR is not your typical touristy setting; which makes it more fun and lively setting.

    Pay is $14.00 per hour plus your Crew Share weekly and monthly tips.

    Bonus: All employees participate in the Crew-Share program where tips gathered through-out the resort are shared equally among staff. Typically $500.00 or more a month.

  • Maintenance

  • Outside Support Staff

    Maintenance
    $14.00 / hour + tips

    We need an experienced individual to handle multiple maintenance chores in and around our 5 acre facility and grounds. The Vermilion Valley Resort features a restaurant, store, motel, tent cabins, yurt cabin, water taxi service and we have a rental fleet of 12’-14’ Honda powered 4-stroke fishing boats. This is an active and physical position, you must be able to thrive at 7700’ in elevation and the maintenance position will work into mid October. You will be asked to engage with our hikers and regular guests so, we look for excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, and good energy.

    The Vermilion Valley Resort functions completely off the grid. We have two large diesel generators that furnish our electricity, water is pumped from our well and sewage is handled by multiple septic systems.

     Qualifications desired:   The ability to diagnose problems, prioritize and handle critical pressure situations is a plus.

    We are willing to train the right person for this important position.

     You and the other 3 - 4 outside/grounds support staff, will handle the water taxi service, renting out boats, trash, grounds maintenance, wood-splitting etc. You will need to handle various tasks and have the communication skills necessary to communicate with customers and your fellow co-workers. This is a non-drama, high energy workplace with fun customers and outdoors minded co-workers.

     This position begins mid - May when we begin to open the resort for the season. You must be able to assist in getting the lodge open and ready for guests, perform repair work for damage caused by the harsh Sierra winter. For example this might include picnic tables with broken benches  or major damage to structures. During the early season our mode of transportation are ATVs and you might have to deal with mechanical issues on these vehicles.  The right go-to individual is flexible, has a good can-do attitude and enjoys the back-country experience and challenges.

    Once the VVR opens to the general public around Memorial Weekend, you will continue to communicate closely with your team mates, be responsible for the normal maintenance chores as detailed previously, and handle special projects as designated.

    Pay starts at 14.00 hour or more and is dependent on background and experience.

    With our Room & Board program and being so remote, the cost of living is extremely low. Meaning you can basically keep everything you earn.

    Bonus: Our lodge shares all tips collected from all departments equally among the staff. (Crew-Share)
