We are located on Fallen Leaf Lake, just five miles from South Lake Tahoe, California. Our beautiful location offers some of the best hiking, biking, boating and living in the Sierra Nevada!
Each spring, from April to June, and each fall, from September to November, we form a tight-knit community in our picturesque mountain environment. We look for good workers, but also good people - reliable, interesting individuals who respect themselves and others and can handle the responsibilities of living and working in a small, diverse community. Room and Board
Staff members share lake view rustic cabins. Most cabins have bathrooms, though a few have a shared bathroom/shower area nearby.
The food is delicious, healthy and plentiful, with vegetarian and vegan options available (you will eat what the guests do—everything from salmon and prime rib to burgers and the salad bar).
There is daytime access to the Fountain (our on site gift shop/convenience store) for staff, as well as 24/7 access to a Staff Fridge where the kitchen staff stocks a lot of tasty leftovers.
Wages start at $11.00 per hour, plus tips, and a discretionary end-of-season bonus. Tips and bonus are pooled and provided at the end of the season. Perks include full use of the recreational facilities, including boating, sailing, tennis, volleyball, basketball, there are miles of hiking trails, and the beaches and waters of Lake Tahoe. Meals and lodging are provided (taxes of approximately $30-40 per month are withheld on the value of meals and lodging). Payday occurs twice a month.
Getting Here and Getting Around
We are located about 30 minutes from South Lake Tahoe, CA. The closest and most convenient airport is Reno / Tahoe Int’l. From the airport the South Tahoe Express shuttle bus will take you to the Stateline casino district. Our shuttle drivers usually pick up and drop off guests at Lakeside Inn and Casino, so that is the most convenient one to use.
Amtrak services our area with a shuttle bus from the “Y” intersection in South Lake Tahoe to a rail connection in Sacramento, CA. Please see our website for specific details regarding driving directions and shuttle information.
You'll have your pick of just about anything you can imagine. Take out a sailboat, a canoe, or a kayak and enjoy the lake for a while. Or you can play basketball, volleyball, or tennis on the courts. Maybe you'll want to grab a book, play some music, hang with fellow staffers, or write a letter while curling up in the sun on the boatdock. The possibilities are endless.
Your two days off are the perfect opportunity for extended adventures wherever you want to go. Many staffers take time to explore the beautiful peaks, lakes, and trails of Desolation Wilderness (the pristine national wilderness area literally in our backyard). In the past, groups of staffers have taken overnight trips to visit friends in the Bay Area, trips to hot springs, and even gone to Disneyland!
The bulk of our staff are either all-purpose or kitchen.
There's no better name for what you'll be doing than "all-purpose". Your day will typically consist of anywhere from 2-5 shifts. A day may start off doing Hobart in the morning (washing dishes - a staff favorite), on the boat dock in the evening, and in our retail store at night. Our best AP staffers have a diverse skill set and can excel in all hospitality related tasks.
Kitchen staff will typically work a split shift during the day. You'll be learning from our highly experienced executive and sous chefs. Our food offerings can range from something as simple as a hamburger to elk steaks, rabbit stew, duck breast, and more. Our best kitchen staffers have a diverse culinary background, excel in working both independently and part of a team, and have a zeal for learning in the kitchen.
