About Red River Ski & Summer Area

Red River is a resort town and a wonderful place to call "home" because it has a true sense of community and neighborly spirit. Our population during the off-season is 477 and can grow up to thousands during our busy times such as ski season and the summer months.  We are located in northern New Mexico's beautiful Sangre de Christo Mountains, close to many things, but far enough away from the chaos of a big city.

Red River is a welcoming ski town! It’s steeped in history, the attitude is laid back, people are friendly and, best of all, Red River Ski & Summer Area’s chairlifts are a short walk from Main Street.

State-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming make Red River Ski & Summer Area one of the best places to ski in the Southwest. It’s also one of the best places to learn to ski or snowboard. Under the tutelage of its skilled instructors, a neophyte can progress from beginner to solid intermediate – or even advanced – in record time!

Red River Ski & Summer Area offers terrain for all abilities. Novice skiers love its ski-through Moon-Star Mining Camp, a family favorite. “Riders” – free-skiers and snowboarders – love Red River’s three terrain parks from the Pot O’ Gold Terrain Park on Gold Rush Hill, to the more challenging Hollywood Terrain Park beneath the Platinum Chair.

Red River offers a relaxed pace of life but an abundance of outdoor things to do such as winter sports, fishing, and the activities in town.  Summer activities include hiking, horseback riding, and fishing.  The Ski Area summer activities include Summer Tubing, Ropes Course, Disc Golf, Pioneer Flyer and Chairlift.  Red River regularly has low temperatures and high precipitation. It has an annual average high of 56 degrees with an average low of 23 degrees. Nearly 150 inches of total snowfall on the area in a year, with 21 inches of rain. The mountain range is usually covered in snow from late fall to early spring.

The town offers high-speed internet and an expanding regional transit system.  We are approximately 36 miles from Taos where the larger grocery stores and pharmacies are located and 106 miles to Santa Fe, New Mexico where the nearest airport is located.

The Employee Experience

Live your mountain life dream at Red River Ski & Summer Area, the Winter and Summer Playground of the Southwest! Fishing, hiking, camping and rock climbing are all just steps away from the resort. Red River has been nominated as one of the "Best Places to Live" by National Geographic Adventure magazine. Main Street is just a mile long so you never have to start your car to get to shopping and great restaurants. Throughout the summer the local establishments bring in nationally recognized bands and artists to entertain, plus there are several music and art festivals to enjoy. Become part of the local community while enjoying life in the mountains.  Our summer season is approximately from May through the end of September each year.
