    Icy Strait Point Actors provide a leadership role as well as interpretation and narration for guests attending various theater productions. Actors will be cross trained to play all parts in Icy Strait Point Theater Productions and may be required to switch actor assignment schedule if necessary.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Conduct all activities and decisions according the Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles: BAP: Best Authentic, Profitable

    Ensure the safety of our Guests attending the theater productions

    Participate in all required trainings

    Maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification

    Other duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    Adequate knowledge or willingness to learn about Tlingit culture

    Must be able to learn a Tlingit Introduction

    Must have good customer service skills

    Must have good verbal communication and presentation skills

    Ability to learn, retain and present stories to guests in an accurate manner.

    Ability to project voice to 75-85 decibel level

    Able to sing Tlingit songs and dance

    Basic sewing skill and/or ability to learn

    Ability to function in a theatrical environment (lights, darkness, masks)

  • Adventure Center Captain

    Summary:

    The successful candidate will assist the Product Supervisor: Sales & Logistics with scheduling, online sales, and other duties related to the planning and coordination of operations. Adventure Center Captains will also be the main contact for specific cruise ships and promote and sell pier-side tickets for all excursions available at Icy Strait Point.  

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Conduct all activities and decisions according to Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles:Best, Authentic, and Profitable Tour Destination

    • Act as main contact for specific cruise ships Shore Excursion Staff, including:

      • Offering additional space as needed

      • Communication of meeting locations of tours

      • Daily scheduling of programs staff

      • Daily dispatching on assigned days to ensure timeliness of tour departures

      • Reconciliation of tour tickets with vendors and against dispatch

      • Submission of end of day report to ship staff

      • Follow-up regarding any minor issues

    • Input comment cards, make copies and distribute to staff

    • Answer questions regarding online sales, including answering phones and making reservations

    • Communicate daily sales with outside contractors

    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Requirements:

    • High School diploma or equivalent preferred (preference given for college degree).

    • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

    • Strong attention to detail.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal.

    • Comfortable and effective collaborating with others, within and outside the organization.

    • Excellent work ethic; willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done; flexibility.

      • Daily equipment and course inspections

      • Equip clients with gear and monitor for necessary adjustments throughout their climb

      • Monitor participants on the courses

      • Verbally and physically assist participants on courses

      • Handle at-height rescue situations

      • Park clean up and site maintenance

    • Provide guests with information about the scenery, wildlife, history, culture and geography.

    • Participate in all required trainings and safety meetings

    • Maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification

      Requirements:

    BOAT CAPTAIN

    Reports to: Safety Supervisor

    Location: Icy Strait Point

    Position Summary: The overriding responsibility of a boat captain is to SAFELY provide a high quality experience for anyone being transported by boat at the direction of Icy Strait Point. Captains are expected to be able to provide interpretation and narration for guests departing on excursions, and may be required to switch excursion assignments as needed.

    Responsibilities:  Conduct all activities and decisions according to Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles: Best, Authentic and Profitable Tour Destination.  Captain in a SAFE, responsible manner at all times and keep all equipment in SAFE condition.  Deliver a first-class experience to all guests and visitors.  Follow all directives and regulations for keeping and maintaining boats in proper operating mode.  Communicate with supervisor/manager when boats need additional maintenance.  Learn and impart knowledge to guests of all that Icy Strait Point has to offer, including history, tours, food and beverage venues, retail products and venues, what’s available in town, etc.  Provide excellent customer service to all IPS guests.  Ensure the safety of all guests on tours.  Assist guests who need or request assistance in getting on/off boat.  Participate in all required training.  Other duties as assigned.

    Experience, Skills and Qualifications:  Three years prior experience operating a boat.  Six Passenger Captain’s License preferred.  Thorough knowledge of Coast Guard regulations.  Have or be able to attain First Aid/CPR certification.  Driver’s License with clean driving record.  Must be insurable with Icy Strait Point (DUI, DWI, negligent or reckless driving citations within the past 5 years is uninsurable).  Willing to submit to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion of drug and alcohol testing.  Adequate knowledge or willingness to learn about Tlingit culture.  Must be able to learn a Tlingit Introduction.  Knowledge of the local area (marine life, plants, animals, birds).  Must have good customer service skills.  Must have good verbal communication and presentation skills.  Able to lift and carry 25 pounds.

    • Have or be able to attain First Aid/CPR certification.

    • Thorough knowledge of driving/roadway laws and regulations in the State of Alaska.

  • Care Cart Driver

    Position Summary:

    Care Cart Driver transports cruise guests and non-cruise guests to various locations at Icy Strait Point. The driver will ensure guests that are ADA (have mobility issues) are the first priority to be transported to different locations on site. The driver is also responsible for remembering the route for the cart and to respond calls in a timely manner. There are two different areas that the shuttles cover, one is over the dock and the other is on site.

    PRODUCT SUPERVISOR MARINE OPERATIONS - PROGRAMS

     

    Reports to:      Director of Excursions

    Salary Range:  Starting at $24 per hour, DOE

     

    Summary:

    Product Supervisors are responsible for all aspects of operating successful tours in their assigned Independent Business Unit, including productivity and profitability.  Product Supervisors will be responsible for reporting tour activity to management and holding their unit responsible for the highest quality customer service and tour delivery. 

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Conduct all activities and decisions according to Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles: Best, Authentic and Profitable Tour Destination.
    • Duties  & Responsibilities specific to Marine Operations:
      • Ensure compliance with USCG laws and regulations
      • Ensure the vessel’s overall condition and seaworthiness is continuously maintained, reporting to the Director of Excursions any situation that may adversely affect the vessels satisfactory state of operations.
      • Maintain the vessel’s filing system of USCG and other important documents as well as crew training records.
      • Ensure preventative maintenance is done on all vessels in a timely manner
      • Ensure vessels operate on time and in a cost-effective manner
    • Product Supervisors will hire, train and supervise a specific team of employees
    • Ensure customer service standards are met in assigned unit, including high quality and delivery of tour content
    • Conduct weekly safety meetings related to their unit
    • Responsible for keeping unit morale high
    • Effective public speaking when addressing guests, crew or the public.
    • Product Supervisors must be willing to work together to ensure the success of the department
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Requirements:

    • Must hold at a minimum 25-ton USCG certification
    • Knowledge of marine maintenance and care
    • Must pass USCG pre-employment drug testing as well as random drug testing throughout the season
    • Minimum 3 years working in tourism industry
    • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude for learning other computer programs.
    • Outstanding customer service philosophy and practices.

     

    Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

    • Able to lift 25 pounds, stand for extended periods, and walk 5+ miles daily
    • Willing to live in a remote, rural community
    • Comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from a remote setting
    • Able to walk and drive on gravel roads in inclement weather
    • Desire to develop a career at Icy Strait Point

    ZipRider Supervisor

    Icy Strait Point

    Position Summary:
    The main responsibility of a ZipRider Operator is to ensure that riders are safely prepared to participate in the world’s largest ZipRider. Icy Strait Point’s ZipRider is 1,300’ high, over a mile long, moves at speeds up to 60mph and takes approximately 90 seconds from top to the bottom. It’s a rush! There is the “top tower,” where guests arrive by means of a scenic tour and bus ride before being securely strapped into the harness seat by you, the operator, and there is the “bottom tower” where guests are unstrapped by you, the operator.

    Responsibilities:

      Securely strap guests into harness seat at start of ride and out of harness seat at end of ride.

    Icy Strait Point operates seasonally and is Alaska's only private tourism destination/cruise port. It is located in remote Hoonah, Alaska, Alaska’s largest Tlingit village and is a renovated salmon cannery with a strong Tlingit cultural theme with fun opportunities for various outdoor excursions, a ZipRider, a Tlingit cultural theater, a wild Alaska cooking class, restaurants and shopping. 
     

    JOB SUMMARY
    The Mechanic reports to and receives work assignments from the Director of Facilities.  The Mechanic is responsible for keeping a fleet of vehicles running and in good repair.  Area of responsibility may also include maintenance and repair of backup power generators, the fire suppressant system, sewage treatment station, and/or mechanical work on the ZipRider Ride. Other duties may also include documenting and maintaining accurate records of all of the above and other work orders, driver inspection reports, parts orders and ordering and tracking inventory.  Some welding, sheet metal fabrication and appliance and small appliance repair may be required.  The Mechanic may be responsible for supervising a Mechanic’s Assistant and for maintaining a neat, safe and orderly work area and for supervising special projects as assigned.
     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
     

    Motor Vehicle, Boats and Motorized Equipment Repair and Maintenance

    • Repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, motors and equipment components as required.
    • Conduct regularly scheduled inspections and maintenance on all company vehicles, boats, motorized equipment and backup power generators
    • Conduct Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections on buses and certify as warranted

     

    ZipRider and Other Equipment and Systems Maintenance and Repair

    • During the operating season conduct inspections and perform maintenance on the ZipRider ride on an operating daily basis and in off-season assist with winter lay-up and season start-up
    • Conduct regularly scheduled inspections and maintenance on the site sewage treatment system and fire suppressant system

     

    Supervision

    • Direct the work and supervise a Mechanic’s Assistant following company procedures and policies
    • Present self as a role model for assistant to follow
    • Train assistant in his/her duties and ensure that he/she follows all safety and company and regulatory agency standards and requirements
    • Provides feedback to assistant on a regular basis and does a formal evaluation at scheduled intervals

     

    Reporting and Planning

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, work orders, driver inspection reports, parts orders and DOT inspections
    • Create and maintain an inventory record system; maintain and track inventory of parts, oil products, filters, and welding materials and all inventory for area of responsibility
    • Work with Facilities Director on budget projections in area of responsibility
    • Works within established budget

     

    Training

    • May be required to participate in training as needed and as budget allows.  

     

    Other Duties

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Current Driver’s License with CDL endorsement (Alaska license is required upon hire)
    • Department of Transportation (DOT) bus inspection certificate required within three months of hire
    • Journey level mechanic knowledge of diesel & gas engines a& drive trains, marine outboard motors, basic electrical systems, basic hydraulics, welding skills with stick and gas wire feed
    • Working knowledge of sourcing and ordering parts, inventorying, and maintaining shop records and maintenance of facilities
    • Must provide own set of hand tools
    • Must be safety-conscious and comply with safety requirements for self and those supervised
    • Communication and time-management skills
    • Sufficient computer skills/abilities including Microsoft Office Suite of Programs that enable employee to carry out the duties of this position
    • Knowledge of appropriate guest etiquette, policies and procedures and excellent customer service philosophy, practices and techniques

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds and stand and be on feet for long periods and do physical labor to carry out maintenance, repair and construction projects and essential job duties.
