    We like to work. We work a lot. We work hard. The right candidate for Greyfield is self-motivated, goal-oriented, and detail-obsessed.

    This is a multi-faceted position. Our employees wear many different hats throughout the course of a workday; everything from housekeeper (includes, but is not limited to floor-sweeping/vacuuming/mopping, dusting, laundry-washing/drying/folding/hauling baskets; bed-making, window-cleaning, and taking out the trash & recycling) to server, bartender (during cocktail hours & as requested by guests) dishwasher and chauffeur. At Greyfield, each of these jobs is approached with equal respect. Training in each area is provided. It is also helpful to have curiosity, an open mind, and an eagerness to learn a lot of new things. Our staff works together as a team for long hours, weekends, and holidays - Greyfield Inn is always open. A typical work day is plus or minus 10 hours; roughly 50 hours a week for a 5 day work week.

    House Staff Responsibilities: 

    • Meticulous housekeeping in all areas of the inn and cottages
    • Nightly “turn-down” service (a second cleaning and straightening of guest rooms during dinner service)
    • Dining service for breakfast and dinner, as well as bartending for nightly cocktail hour
    • Greeting guests upon arrival, and providing a detailed house tour and guide to staying at Greyfield Inn
    • Working with all staff members to ensure proper and quality service be provided to our guests at all times
    • Valid driver's license required

     
    Compensation Details:

    • The annual salary starts at $42,000, commensurate with experience. This number is based on an annual average depending on the daily rate plus a Guest Service Charge.
    • Housing and meals provided to staff members only (no pets)
    • Free transportation to and from the island via a scheduled ferry ride 
    • Paid vacation after one year
    • Medical and dental after 60 days
    Outdoors

    Naturalist

    $42,000.00 / year
    Cumberland Island

    To qualify for this naturalist position, a minimum 4-year or bachelor's degree in relevant field in required.

    We offer our guests a variety of Island tours every day, with something to interest everyone, from history buffs to botanists. A valid driver's license is mandatory for this position because most of the tours require driving our custom naturalist’s truck on the way to view the secrets of Cumberland: historical ruins, wild horses, and lush maritime forests.

    Naturalist / House Staff

    We are looking for a qualified candidate that can be cross-trained as both a naturalist and a house staff member.

    To qualify for this naturalist position, a minimum 4-year or bachelor's degree in relevant field in required.

    We offer our guests a variety of Island tours every day, with something to interest everyone, from history buffs to botanists.     Guest Services

    Porter / Maintenance

    $42,000.00 / year
    Cumberland Island
    This is a hands-on position that includes working both independently and on a team to provide routine and on-call maintenance at the inn and staff housing, as well as transporting luggage and other cargo from the boat dock to inn, maintaining our vehicle and bicycle fleets, cleaning and maintaining outdoor areas including porches, lawns, and pathways, and assisting guests and fellow staff members in any and all ways when needed. We are looking for someone with a warm and friendly demeanor who can commit to our shared goal of providing the best possible experience for our inn guests. One year commitment will be asked of you. The ideal candidate: Has basic knowledge of hospitality-related maintenance areas such as general construction, electrical, plumbing, vehicle and bicycle maintenance, landscaping, etc. Has strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical acumen. Treats maintenance tasks with a sense of urgency and focus. Is self-motivated and autonomous. Can prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner. Can be trusted to manage their time and avoid distractions. Can effectively communicate to management and co-workers in regards to where they are, what they are doing, and what supplies they need to do it. Respects the historical significance of Greyfield and treats all maintenance tasks with historical preservation in mind. Holds a high standard for the aesthetic quality of the building and grounds. Considers how a guest will perceive their surroundings and works in a clean and tidy manner. Has an understanding of how important teamwork and shared goals are. Is willing to help wherever is needed and assist other departments. Is Guest Services focused and understands the guest always comes first. Can anticipate guest needs and is willing to assist guests at any time. Appreciates the outdoors and life in a remote setting. Is physically fit, leads a healthy lifestyle, and comes to work each day with motivation, enthusiasm, and a “can-do” attitude. Compensation Details: Minimum 12 month commitment. Annual salary minimum $42,000, with opportunities for increases available based on Greyfield's occupancy.
    Maritime: Guest Services

    Seeking a Responsible Deckhand to Oversee the Vessel's Safety, Maintenance, and Operation.

    $42,000.00 / year

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Interact and direct guests in a professional, courteous, helpful manner

    • Handle and lift heavy equipment, materials, supplies and guest luggage

    • Perform physical tasks such as securing lines, handling ropes, and assisting with the loading and unloading of cargo/guest luggage

    • Work in a variety of weather conditions, including rain, heat, cold, and rough seas

    • Routine cleaning and maintenance of vessels

    • Starting the job with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and follow Greyfield Inn standards

    Qualifications:

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (at least 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks

    • Willingness to work long hours

    • Some knowledge of maritime safety guidelines

    • Must be able to submit USCG/DOT drug test

    Requirements:

    • This position requires candidates to live on island, in staff housing provided. Due to our unique location and limited housing we are unable to accommodate spouses/children/partners/pets

    • Candidate must be able to commit to a 12 month term
