Camp Towanda is now hiring Sports Instructors, Coaches and Activity Specialists, Group Leaders, Department Heads, and General Counselors! Our program consists of all the land and water sports, outdoor adventure, theatre, art and more! We offer professional paid internships in many fields including marketing, health administration, nursing, finance, hospitality, event planning, food services, sports management, media and nutrition. We work with colleges for school credit and provide mentorship opportunities.

Camp Towanda is the premier family-owned and operated, co-ed 7 week sleep-away camp in Northeast Pennsylvania for children ages 7-17. We are nestled on over 400 acres of beautiful fields, facilities, waterfront and countryside. At Camp Towanda, we provide a well-rounded experience for our campers and staff in a nurturing, safe environment with endless opportunities for them to try new things and feel great about themselves! Our program offers excellent and professional instruction in all land and water sports, fine arts, drama and adventure, as well as very creative evening activities and special events.

All meals, room and board are included with scheduled time off. We are located near a popular summer destination in the Pocono Mountains and less than 2 ½ hours away from New York City and Philadelphia.

We attract down-to-earth, friendly and spirited campers, families and staff. We hire 300 counselors and support staff from over 20 countries and all across the USA. For 97 years, Camp Towanda has continued to define what summer camp is all about. The job of a counselor is multi-faceted; your spirit, creativity and leadership is paramount. When at camp, it is a 24-hour job. Flexibility, responsibility and stamina are key attributes for our staff to possess.   • Archery Counselor

    Activity Specialist
    Pennsylvania

    You are on the archery range on the camp facility teaching, instructing, managing general counselor staff and closely working with campers. SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY...3-4 PERIODS PER DAY...supervising and teaching small groups of campers on the camp archery range. The program is for all age groups of boys and girls 7-16 years old. We offer a Level 1 US Archery Association Instructor course during staff training week.

  • Baseball Counselor

    Baseball and softball specialists at Camp Towanda have the opportunity to teach daily instruction to our campers, boys and girls, ages 7-17. Additionally, they are responsible for coaching our baseball intra camp games and intercamp leagues, including county-wide tournaments with other camps. This is a great opportunity for developing professionals to get coaching experience with a wide variety of ages and abilities.

    Responsibilities include coaching, umpiring, executing lesson plans and coordinating with Department Head, Program Director and Athletic Director.  Specialists help teach groups of 20-40 campers at a time (boys and girls, ages 7-17).   • Ceramics Counselor

    Art Instructors at Camp Towanda work in our beautiful Arts & Crafts barn, helping campers explore and produce a variety of creative projects. Our program emphasis includes drawing, painting, paper mache, leatherwork, jewelry-making, ceramics, pottery, glass fusion and woodworking. While there may be 20-40 campers  (boys and girls, ages 7-17) at a time in Arts & Crafts, there will only be 8-10 in the ceramic area at once. Ceramics Specialists must know how to work an electric kiln, teach hand building and wheel work, and have knowledge of glazes. This is a great way to develop your teaching skills, share your passion and be a part of a fun team!

  • Dance Instructor

    Dance specialists at Camp Towanda teach daily dance classes to our campers, boys and girls, ages 7-17. Dance styles include hip hop, zumba, jazz, modern, etc. We have competed in dance and cheerleading competitions, working closely with our gymnastics department and have done performances during special events and halftimes throughout  our program. Additionally, our dance instructors work closely with our drama staff teaching dance and choreography for 4 musical productions.

  • Digital Photographer

    Media specialists at Camp Towanda work in our state of the art air-conditioned media facility. However they are also seen all around camp, capturing the summer experience for our campers and fans to enjoy virtually for many years to come. The Media Team at Camp Towanda plays a vital role in preserving the history of our camp, which is celebrating 95 years!  We take and upload over 1000 photos a day during a 7 week summer, of campers ages 7-17. Our daily video footage is compiled in the camp-famous “Friday Nite Flix” weekly highlight video (which is like Saturday Night Live for campers...skits, montages and FUN!). The Media Team’s responsibilities also include Audio Visual (AV) work , graphic design, video editing, skit production, website editing and development and radio production.

    Although each individual is hired based on their skills and strengths, we are very team-oriented. There are typically 4-6 people on the team. It takes a lot of patience, energy, creativity, organization, accountability and teamwork to make it through the summer with a body of work we can all be proud of (and you can feature in your portfolio!).

    When you are not instructing in your area of expertise, you will work with the group that you live with, as a General Counselor.

  • Excursions Leader

    You are off camp, so you become the LEADER in making the correct and responsible decisions. It is quite an undertaking as well as an awesome responsibility. At all times, safety and caution supersede any other decision. Phases of this job will have you off camp as many as 20 days during the season…usually no more than 2 days consecutively. There will be one or two 3-day excursions where you will be 5-8 hours from camp.

    On the days we are not on an out of camp excursion, you are another member of the O&A staff…assisting with ropes, climbing tower, overnight sleep outs (on site), campfires, supervision of O&A staff.

    Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Remaining in daily contact with Outdoor Adventure Director
    • Maintaining regular contact with River Trip Facilitator
    • Present for and participate in River Orientation
    • Maintenance and Storage of all River equipment
    • Providing counselor/camper rosters pre-trip (written) to O&A Director & Program Director.
    • Performing pre-trip briefings (oral)
    • Providing after trip reviews (written or oral)
    • Organizing all equipment, foodstuffs, and logistics necessary for river trip
    • First Aid/CPR/Life Guard Certified as per American Red Cross...Wilderness First Aid candidate or certified
    • Provide continuity of care on the River and at Camp Sites at all times while on river trip
    • Provide leadership and maintain order for river staff and campers during ordinary and non-ordinary river events
    • Responsible for all aspects of program, equipment, safety, staff, campers.

    Golf Instructors at Camp Towanda manage our 300 yard driving range on site. Understanding and abiding to all safety rules is paramount. Instruction consists of 3-4 activity periods per day with 8-15 campers at a time with varying levels and abilities, from beginners to master classes with our more skilled campers. Weekly, there is a trip to a nearby course with campers who have signed up for more intensive instruction. You will work closely with with our Program Directors to execute lesson plans, manage equipment and facility.

  • Waterski Instructor

    Arguably, one of the best jobs on camp! Waterski Specialists at Camp Towanda teach waterskiing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding on our beautiful 33 acre Sunset Lake and 500 acre advanced lake, to campers ages 7-17. Campers skills vary, patience and being able to work with kids is a must. Instructors are also responsible for leading tubing rides and pontoon boat adventures. The waterfront is one of the safest places on camp, thanks to the vigilance and pride our staff take in monitoring all activities near and in the water.  

    All waterfront staff are Red Cross certified at camp during our additional training session on site. 


    We are also seeking boat drivers. Must be experienced power boat driver. We will provide information to become certified in PA Boater Safety with online course. Responsibilities include daily maintenance on 3 Ski Nautique power boats.

    The Waterski Department Head leads a the team of 7 water ski and wake board staff. Responsibilities includes delegating responsibility to department staff, managing fuel consumption, mechanical oversight and wear and tear of all boats, care for all phases of daily boat cleanup, complete daily maintenance log reports. Work closely with Waterfront Director and Program Director scheduling daily instruction on both lakes. Assign staff to varying schedules at both lakes. Keep track of progress of all campers skills as well as schedules for campers signing up for additional options. Be responsible for the inventory repair and/or replacement of all equipment during and at conclusion of the season.
