Brooks Lodge operates under a Concessions Contract with the National Park Service and is located on the Brooks River in Katmai National Park. Brooks Lodge supports lodging for 64 guests, a nearby campground, as well as fly-in day visitors for world-class bear viewing and fishing.

Our operating staff of 26 works alongside an incredible natural cast of bears, eagles, and salmon, all with one shared goal: delivering an unforgettable experience for every guest who visits Brooks Lodge. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position best suited for people who enjoy physical work, teamwork, and life in a remote wilderness setting.

The Dishwasher plays a vital role in supporting kitchen operations by ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. This position is ideal for dependable, detail-oriented individuals who work well in a fast-paced setting and understand the importance of food safety and sanitation.

Position Overview

Dishwashers are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen while supporting food preparation and service. This role requires stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to keep pace during busy meal periods.

Key Responsibilities

Dishwashing & Sanitation

• Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment

• Maintain cleanliness of dishwashing stations and surrounding work areas

• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health standards

• Assist with waste disposal

Kitchen Support

• Assist with basic food preparation as directed

• Move, organize, and stock supplies

• Support cooks and kitchen staff during service

• Perform general kitchen cleaning duties as assigned

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

• Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods

Brooks Lodge operates under a Concessions Contract with the National Park Service and is located on the Brooks River in remote Katmai National Park. Brooks Lodge supports lodging for 64 guests, a nearby campground, as well as fly-in day visitors for world-class bear viewing and fishing.

This position oversees all kitchen operations and plays a critical leadership role in delivering consistent, high-quality meals in a high-volume, remote lodge environment. This position is ideal for an experienced culinary professional who excels in organization, leadership, and food safety while working hands-on with their team.

Position Overview

The Head Chef is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing all food service operations, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. This role requires active participation in food preparation, strong supervisory skills, and strict adherence to food safety and public health standards.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Leadership & Operations

• Oversee all kitchen operations and daily buffet meal service

• Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff

• Create staff schedules and manage kitchen workflow

• Lead by example through hands-on food preparation and service

Menu Execution & Guest Needs

• Execute quality high-volume family-style buffet menus, for 300 – 500 covers per day

• Accommodate special dietary needs and guest requests

• Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control

Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) standards

• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times

• Enforce proper food handling, storage, rotation, and labeling procedures

• Maintain and implement HACCP plans

Ordering, Inventory & Cost Control

• Order food and kitchen supplies in coordination with lodge operations

• Monitor inventory levels, food usage, and waste

• Ensure proper food storage, rotation, and quality control

Physical & Work Requirements

• Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

• Comfortable working long days in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen

Schedule & Compensation

• Standard workweek of 7 days, approximately 11 hours per day

Tour Bus Driver
This position is responsible for safely transporting guests on a daily guided tour to the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, a 23-mile route each way that showcases the volcanic landscape that led to the creation of Katmai National Park. This position is ideal for safety-focused, professional drivers who enjoy working with guests in a unique wilderness setting.
Position Overview
Tour Bus Drivers operate a 28-passenger tour bus for daily tour operations, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and positive experience for guests. In addition to driving responsibilities, this role includes guest support, vehicle care, and light logistical duties.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Safety
• Safely operate a 28-passenger tour bus on a daily round-trip tour

• Navigate the Valley Road to and from the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes

• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections

• Follow all safety protocols and driving regulations

• Clean and maintain the tour bus interior and exterior

• Report vehicle issues or maintenance needs promptly
Guest Experience & Tour Support
• Assist with guest loading and unloading

• Set up and break down sack lunch service for tour guests

• Provide a professional, courteous presence throughout the tour

• Support guest needs during the outing
Additional Duties
·         On days when the Valley tour is not operating, assist with daily aircraft arrivals and departures
·         Drive shuttle vans between lakes as needed to transport guests
·  Support light outdoor and camp duties as needed around the lodge
Physical & Work Requirements
• Must be at least 21 years of age

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs

• Comfortable working long days and varying schedules

• Able to work independently and responsibly in remote conditions

General Description:
At the direction of and satisfaction of the Director of Operations and Chief Pilot, safely and skillfully operate Katmai Air aircraft as assigned.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
• All preflight planning, weather dissemination, load control and route familiarity associated with Katmai Air flight operations

• Conduct SAFE flight operations under challenging conditions in accordance with Katmai Air policies and procedures
Required Qualifications:
• CPL, Instrument Rating, Float Rating and valid FAA 2 nd Class Medical

• Minimum 1500 hrs Total Time

• Minimum 300 hrs SES
Preferred Qualifications:
• ATP and valid FAA 1 st Class Medical

• 1000+ hrs Floatplane experience in Alaska

• 3 or more years experience in FAA Part 135 operations

• Previous Flight Instruction experience or Company Instructor/Check Pilot authority

• Instrument flying proficiency

• Alaska flying experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must be goal oriented, have an exceptional attention to detail, and work well in a team or individual work environment.

• Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal form

• Ability to take instruction as well as offer goal oriented improvements

• Ability to exhibit a high level of customer service at all times

• Ability to exercise good judgement
Work Environment:
• Flexibility regarding hours of work as well as duty station assignment is required as needed to meet demands of the job

• Flexibility and preparedness for the sometimes harsh Alaskan environment
Physical Requirements:
Intermittent physical activity including bending and reaching along with prolonged periods of sitting. Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds vertically through 4 feet, and maneuvering that load at arm’s length.

Want to work around float planes?! We seek motivated, self starting individuals to join our team working at our float plane base in King Salmon. King Salmon is the starting point to almost all activities inside Katmai National Park and the starting point to all our guests journeys.
Job duties will include but are not limited to: Loading and offloading airplanes with luggage and freight, helping guests board planes, fueling airplanes, cleaning building, and running refuse. 
- Pay depends on experience. Expected work week is 6 or 7 days per week. Standard overtime applies.
