The USNWC is open year-round with peak season dates running from approximately March through October. Our highest volume days tend to be weekends coinciding with our major festivals and other special events. Opportunity for employment exists for those interested in summer, seasonal jobs, those looking for extra part-time work on weekends and evenings, and even those seeking a permanent, full-time position.
The majority of our seasonal positions do not require technical experience in the industry; however, given the frequent, high-volume nature of guest interaction associated with most roles, exceptional communication skills are essential.
If a job description indicates that a position requires a current First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification, please note, the Whitewater Center offers certification courses in-house. There are also opportunities to obtain more advanced safety training.

Outdoor Activities Guides are the core delivery vehicle for experiences at the Whitewater Center. They serve to promote positive interactions and experiences in a variety of outdoor activities. Positions vary from seasonal to year-round with hours ranging based upon availability and interest. New guides are provided paid training and shadowing opportunities to build skills to operate competently and confidently. Previous experience is not required.
Guiding specialties are divided into 5 categories. Guides can develop skills to work in multiple disciplines or focus in a single activity area. The specialties include Whitewater Rafting, Flatwater Paddling, Lifeguard, Mountain Biking, and Ziplines/Ropes Courses. Guides are part-time, on-site, and report to the Operations Manager for each specialty.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the resident expert of the facility and the products/services offered.
- Interact with guests in a positive manner at all times.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with the public and staff.
- Provide guests with instruction on equipment and any necessary briefings.
- Answer questions and troubleshoot guest needs.
- Effectively communicate and enforce regulations and policies.
- Respond appropriately to all emergencies.
- Perform safety inspections on activities and equipment daily.
- Identify safety issues and communicate to management.
- Engage the chain-of-command as appropriate for assistance.

Requirements
- The minimum age requirement is 17 for most specialties.

Aerial Inspection and Maintenance Technicians at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) are responsible for the construction, inspection, and maintenance of land activities located at the Whitewater Center. Activities include, but are not limited to, zip lines, high and low ropes elements, continuous belay systems, climbing walls, and belayed jumps. Work is performed year-round in an outdoor environment. Technicians can either be hired as full-time, on-site, benefits-eligible employees or seasonal, on-site employees. This position reports directly to the Outdoor Activities Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all elements and structures associated with Land Activities at the Whitewater Center.
- Assist in the construction of new activities; complete courses, individual elements, and/or the remodeling of existing courses.
- Ensure the safety of guests on highly trafficked activities by completing thorough, regular inspections of all courses and systems with strong attention to detail.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Familiar with quality and safety standards set by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and other relevant organizations.
- Strong background in working at heights, rigging, ropes course management, carpentry, or other related fields.
- Experience working safely and effectively with hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to contribute to a specialized, team-oriented work environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during other Whitewater events as needed.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to work outdoors for sustained periods of time in all weather and environmental conditions.

Dishwashers at the Whitewater Center are responsible for washing and cleaning tableware, pots, pans, and cooking equipment in a high-volume restaurant environment. Dishwashers must also keep the dish area and equipment sanitary and organized. This is an on-site, part-time hourly position that reports directly to the Executive Chef.
Responsibilities
- Safely clean, organize, and maintain dishes and dish station equipment.
- Load, run, and unload the dish machine.
- Immediately report any functional or mechanical problems to the Executive Chef.
- Bag and haul dish room trash to dumpster at designated times.
- Fill in as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operation within the kitchen.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- No prior restaurant experience is needed.
- Excellent communication skills are a must.
- Comfortable working in a hot, wet, humid, and loud environment for entire shifts.

Overview of Food and Beverage Department
The Food and Beverage Department delivers exceptional, chef-driven culinary service to Whitewater guests. Whitewater is home to diverse and ever-evolving food and beverage outlets, including full-service and fast-casual dining options. In addition, the Food and Beverage Department oversees catering for private events and Adventure Dining.

The Guest Services Representative at the Whitewater Center is responsible for creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all guests. The Guest Services Representative must provide guests with guidance to best match our products and services with the needs of the guest. The Guest Services Representative is an on-site, part-time hourly position that reports directly to the Guest Services Leads.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate knowledge of activities, products, and services offered at Whitewater.
- Communicate with guests in a polite, clear, and confident manner.
- Be open to a variety of job functions, including parking, retail, pass sales, site tours, etc.
- Check-in reserved guests through the Siriusware software system, print wrist bands, review the purchased experience, provide directions, and answer any questions.
- Prepare for the arrival of large groups to ensure a pleasant and efficient check-in.
- Actively communicate with all departments to facilitate the best possible experience for each guest.

The Outdoor Activities Operations Manager at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) is a key leadership position with a critical role in the fulfillment of the Whitewater Center brand promise of delivering high-quality experiences. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing a supervisory team and managing the day-to-day functions of the operation. This role is on-site, full-time, benefits eligible and reports to the Outdoor Activities Director.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and safety protocols.
- Execution of processes and procedures to ensure consistency with company objectives.
- Manage an efficient operation with a strong fiscal awareness to continuously ensure the proper execution of resources.
- Be a key leader in the planning and execution of any additional programming including winter activities.
Leadership
- Relentless pursuit to create and maintain a culture of safety within the organization.
- Lead, motivate, and support a large team within a demanding environment.
- Create, monitor, and execute training programs for incoming guides as well as continuing education programs for existing guides.
- Maintain constant communication with management and staff to ensure proper operations of the department.

Outdoor Educators at the Whitewater Center are responsible for implementing a variety of educational programs for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Most programs are scheduled for the spring and the fall, so Educators are free and encouraged to explore employment in other departments during the summer months. Educators are on-site and work a variable, part-time schedule, reporting to the Outdoor School Supervisor.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, educational, and enjoyable atmosphere during environmental education and team building programs.
- Learn and facilitate lesson plans pertaining to environmental education and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) topics.
- Manage groups of up to 30 students at a time and ensure quality supervision during programs.
- Effectively communicate with chaperones.
- Maintain accurate knowledge of activities, products, and services offered by the Whitewater center.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Prior experience teaching in a formal or informal setting for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Background in Environmental Education, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Biology, or another related field.
- Highly motivated and energetic with an outgoing personality.
- Possess strong communication skills.
- Weekday availability is required. This position is part-time, Monday through Friday in the following months: March through June & August through November

The Race Assistant at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) is a key member in managing the Whitewater Race Series events and is responsible for overseeing participant registration, executing race logistics/production, and reporting on key performance indicators of each event. In addition, the position will also assist with various operational tasks that are essential to successfully executing competitive events. The Race Assistant is an on-site, part-time, hourly role and reports to the Race Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Manage the race registration process for all Whitewater Race Series productions.
- Work with the Whitewater Marketing team to develop event pages and update digital assets and registration platforms.
- Aid with registration, packet pick-up, race start/finish actions, aid stations set up and removal, and awards presentations at all events.
- Develop strategies to grow the participation base of the race series in conjunction with the Events team.
- Assist the Race Coordinator with operational tasks such as securing vendors, creating events maps, schedules, and site plans, and course planning.

The Raft Operations Supervisor at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) is responsible for the oversight of guide scheduling and trip capacity management for the rafting operations of the Whitewater Center. As part of the leadership team, the Raft Supervisor will also assist in managing the day-to-day operations, training, recruiting, emergency response calls, winter programming and other special projects as needed. This position is an on-site, full-time, benefits-eligible position that reports to the Activities Director.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a logistical framework for both weekly scheduling and raft capacity planning.
- Be the direct liaison for booking groups with the Outdoor School and Groups Sales.
- Create and implement strategies for efficient scheduling communications.
- Play a key role in the daily management of rafting operations, including but not limited to – engaging guest needs, scheduling needs, emergency response calls, training guides, guiding trips, and assessing equipment.
- Work with the management team to create operational efficiencies to further the growth of the department.

Requirements
- A degree in Operations Management, Recreation Management, or another related field.
- Prior experience guiding and training guides in up to class IV whitewater.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Prior experience teaching, coaching, and developing curriculum in a non-formal setting.
- Prior management experience required, ideally managing a whitewater outfitter.
- Patient and organized with a focus on safety.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Complete an approved raft guide training.

Weekday servers at the Whitewater Center are responsible for providing friendly and responsive service in a high-volume restaurant environment. The Server is an on-site, part-time, hourly position who reports directly to the Front of House managers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain professional dining experiences- accurately take orders, submit orders to kitchen, deliver items to guests, refill glasses, etc.
- Stay open and attentive to the needs of the guest.
- Handle cash transactions and operate a restaurant point-of-sale system.
- Stay current and be able to inform guests of menu options, sides, and specials.
- Maintain a clean dining environment- bus tables, sweep floors, etc. as needed.

Summer Camp Counselors at the Whitewater Center are responsible for providing camper supervision and coordinating group processes while facilitating camp programming in a safe and enjoyable manner. Summer Camp Counselor positions require full-time availability during summer weekdays corresponding with camp sessions. Camp Counselors are on-site and report to the Outdoor School Supervisor.
**The 2023 Summer Camp program year runs from June 5th through August 27th. Part-time or full-time availability through the end of August is required.**

Swiftwater Rescue Instructors at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) provide Swiftwater and flood rescue training to public safety (Fire, EMA, Police) and military teams. This position is responsible for teaching a variety of classes including in-water, nighttime, and raft-based courses. The Whitewater Kayak Coordinator at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) plays a key role in the oversight of scheduling, planning and management of the whitewater kayaking instruction programs. Operations Managers at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) oversee the daily operations of multiple business units. This position is an on-site, full-time, benefits eligible role that reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and support a large team within a high volume and a demanding environment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and safety protocols.
- Leverage business metrics and trends to drive performance and maximize profit and revenue.
- Utilize key tools and metrics to measure team results and hold the team accountable to established goals and objectives.

Requirements

- 5+ years of experience in management and/or leadership.

The Outdoor School Manager is responsible for overseeing the Whitewater Center summer camps, outdoor education and staff within the Outdoor School (OS). While supporting the vision and continued expansion of the school, the OS Manager will oversee a team of full-time staff and up to 50 part-time employees. The OS Manager is a full-time, on-site, benefits eligible position, and reports directly to the Outdoor Activities Director.
Responsibilities
- Daily management of program operations, including but not limited to, engaging customer needs, staff forecasting and scheduling, emergency response call and logistical support.
- Oversee recruiting, hiring, training, and daily management of all program staff.
- Oversee ongoing program development and expansion.
- Organizing and managing both logistical and operational needs for Whitewater Center instruction and certification courses
- Work directly with the OS Team to ensure all logistical needs are set to ensure program success.

Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Possess a 4-year degree in Outdoor Recreation, Business, or another related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing a summer camp program.
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid
- Prior experience in teaching outdoor education programs; Wilderness Medicine, Backpacking, Mountain Biking, or other related topics
- Safety-oriented, patient, organized, enthusiastic, and flexible.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively with employees and guests.
- Excellent driving record with no major infractions or unsafe conduct – position requires driving a 15-passenger van while towing utility trailers of varying sizes.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other Whitewater events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Wilderness medicine certifications.
- Prior experience in managing overnight camps.

The Marketing Director at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) drives the strategic planning and communication of the Whitewater brand and leads the marketing department on a day-to-day basis to engage Whitewater audiences. This position is responsible for the planning, execution and analysis of Whitewater’s marketing strategy and positioning within the outdoor and hospitality industries. The Marketing Director and the marketing team are responsible for supporting all internal Whitewater teams in the execution of the brand promise and the delivery of outdoor experiences to guests across all business units. The Marketing Director is a full-time, on-site, benefits-eligible position that reports to the Brand Director.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Strategic Development
- Direct management of the internal marketing team to deliver consistent and high-quality messaging centered around engaging the outdoor lifestyle through inspirational content and active experiences.
- Relationship development and project management with third party service providers and vendors to execute marketing projects and campaigns.
- Drive the development of all future programming and communication strategies on behalf of the organization in conjunction with the marketing team and senior management.
Research & Analysis

Event and Race Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all public-facing events. Typical events include, but are not limited to, single and multi-day Festivals, Whitewater Race Series events, Whitewater Film Series events, River Jam concerts, Yoga sessions, Adventure Dining, Winter programming, Outpost programming and all other established programming. The Event and Race Coordinator is a full-time, on-site, benefits-eligible position and reports directly to the Event and Race Manager.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the planning, execution, reporting and follow up of all events.
- Assist in hiring, training, and scheduling hourly employees.
- Manage inventory of supplies and awards.
- Submit work orders and event orders for all events.

Event Coordinators at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) are responsible for booking and processing all private group events at the facility and helping with the execution of all public events. Event Coordinators must fulfill the needs of all inbound group inquiries including program determination, proposal generation, and execution on the day of events. This position is an on-site, full-time, benefits-eligible position that reports directly to the Events Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with clients in a polite, clear, and confident manner using a variety of mediums – email, phone, and face-to-face interaction.
- Answer questions regarding group outings, activities, venues, and catering, providing clients with guidance to best match our products with their needs.
- Provide a detailed review of products and services purchased, requirements to participate, and an overview of what to expect upon arrival.
- Prepare for all group reservations to ensure a pleasant and efficient check-in, including printing wristbands and giving welcome talks.
- Input group inquiry information for lead tracking and follow-up, and develop relationships with Whitewater Center clients to encourage repeat bookings.

Description
The Whitewater Center offers a variety of part-time and seasonal positions at the world's premier outdoor center. Whitewater employees are responsible for delivering exceptional experiences through outdoor activities, summer camps, field trips, instruction, team-building programs, festivals, races, competitions, and food/beverage services. We are seeking team members that engage with guests and deliver high-quality programming through every facet of the operation. Our primary goal is to find motivated, bright, hardworking, and dedicated individuals. Departments include Outdoor Sports, Food and Beverage, and other Hospitality functions.
Requirements
No previous technical skillset is required. Whitewater employees will train and teach the hard skills required for each role. Age requirements vary by job and the responsibilities undertaken. The minimum age for any applicant is 16, but some positions require a higher minimum age. Candidates with broader availability are preferred; limited availability may impact an applicant’s employment potential.

Line Cooks at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) are responsible for cooking and preparing a variety of food products according to specified recipes and guest specifications. This is an on-site, part-time hourly position that reports directly to the Executive Chef.
Responsibilities
- Safely prepare a variety of food products using various kitchen equipment including, but not limited to, broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and sharp knives.
- Understand and consistently comply with portion sizes and recipe specifications as described on recipe cards.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation including tables, shelves, walls, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range, and refrigeration equipment.
- Operate and read a kitchen display system to create dishes according to guest specifications.
- Be able to fill in as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operation within the kitchen.

The Whitewater Center conserves and maintains 1,300 acres of land in Charlotte, NC with over 30 miles of developed, mixed-use trails. - Perform all aspects of trail maintenance and construction as assigned by the Trail Maintenance Manager.
