Assistant Wrangler

Skylake Yosemite Camp

The Assistant Wrangler shall assist the Wrangler in their responsibilities for the horseback riding activity at Skylake. 

*Dates of employment negotiable based on availability.** Ideal start date is May 23. End date is August 13 with additional two weeks of opportunity based on staff availability.**  **Salary based on experience. Base pay $600/week**

The job includes:

1. Evaluating the horses and their compatibility to the campers.
2. Evaluating the campers and their abilities to ride the different horses.
3. Coaching and instructing the campers on proper horsemanship.
4. Coaching and instructing the campers on being respectful for the animals and the environment.
5. Managing the camper sign ups to make sure all campers are fairly accommodated.
6. Daily feeding, watering and health maintenance of the horses.  A daily log of all the horses condition shall also be maintained.
7. Daily saddling of the horses.
8. Daily maintenance of the corrals in a safe and sanitary condition.
9. Proper storage and maintenance of all saddles and equipment.
10. Leading of trail rides and instruction of campers.
11. Monitoring health and fitness of horses at all times with daily log.
12. Communication with Larry Knapp regarding care and health of horses if Lead Wrangler isn’t on site.
13. Communication with Directors on how the activity is running.
14. Organization of ACA Standards materials.
15. Organizing Saddle Club Program for campers to assist with saddling/grooming/care for horses.
16. **ON call for various other projects and duties around camp when horses are not being used. Including but not limited too: Camper supervision, Dining room supervision, organizing camp outs for youngest campers, assist with leadership staff duties.
