Room and Board

At She Summits Co, we understand the importance of comfortable living arrangements for our staff, which is why we provide room and board as part of the compensation package for our overnight staff and interns. There are no additional fees for this accommodation.

We do not provide room and board for our day trip staff because of the place-based nature of these trips. Those positions are ideal for someone who already has housing in the area.

For our Interns and Overnight staff: We typically rent houses in downtown Bangor, Maine, which are charming, older New England homes featuring wood floors. These homes offer shared bedrooms, with each staff member paired with one other person. The houses are equipped with a kitchen and living room, although the furnishings are sparse, adding to the rustic charm of the living experience.

Historically, our business operations have been conducted in the same areas as our staff housing. During the day, the living room serves as the business office, while group gear is stored on the sunroom porch, and the kitchen doubles as storage for camp food. For the 2024 season, we are looking to rent a duplex to provide a more distinct separation between staff housing and business operations. However, trip staff may still have their bedrooms in the second apartment of the house. We aim to ensure that our accommodations are not just a place to stay, but a space where our staff can feel at home and part of the She Summits Co community.

Further details about our room and board arrangements, including specifics of the new duplex setup, will be provided during your interview. We believe that our unique living arrangements enhance the overall experience of working with us, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork that is essential to our operations.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Overnight Staff and Interns:

For those considering joining the She Summits Co team, it's important to plan your transportation arrangements accordingly. We recommend that you do not bring a personal vehicle, mainly due to the limited parking available at the staff house. However, for your convenience, we provide access to a van or SUV during your off time, making it easier to explore the area or run errands. For interns, who will be residing in a separate residence, having a personal vehicle is more feasible and can be an exception to this recommendation.

Arrival to She Summits Co: We can arrange pickups from both Portland Airport and Bangor Airport, with a preference for Bangor due to its proximity. Additionally, for those traveling from Boston, we can also pick you up from the bus station. This arrangement aims to ease your transition and help you settle in comfortably without the immediate need for personal transportation.

Local Transportation: Once settled, you'll find that our housing is conveniently located within walking distance to downtown Bangor. This location offers the benefit of having essential amenities and recreational spots nearby. However, it's important to note that public transportation in our area is limited. Therefore, while walking is a viable option for most daily needs, planning for longer trips or specific errands might require the use of the company-provided vehicle.

Biking in the Area: Bikes are a great option for those who enjoy cycling, but please be aware that the infrastructure for bike travel in our area is somewhat limited. While there are large shoulders on roads, these may occasionally be obstructed by parked cars. Hence, biking can be enjoyable but might require caution and adaptability to the local road conditions.

In summary, while personal vehicles are not recommended due to parking constraints, She Summits Co ensures that staff members have access to necessary transportation for both work and leisure. This approach not only facilitates easy commuting but also encourages a more environmentally friendly and community-oriented lifestyle.
