    NC Residential- SCUBA (high school campers)
    North Topsail Beach

    Core Responsibilities:

    The Camp Counselor for SCUBA Camp must be a multi-talented and energetic individual with a passion to develop and provide marine science instruction to our high school aged campers. Applicants must possess a dedication to marine stewardship, teaching, and inspiring youth. In addition to marine science education, this position requires an individual prepared to give 24-hour supervision to our campers with their fellow team while they work to obtain their PADI SCUBA certifications.

    • Work as a team to provide marine science lessons to campers
    • Educate and excite youth about the various North Carolina coastal landscapes, flora, and fauna
    • Assist with the driving of camp vehicles
    • Set up and breakdown of lessons
    • Assist with coordination of arrival/departure of campers
    • Maintain healthy and open communication between interns and volunteers at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center.
    • Assist instructors with 15 campers pursuing their PADI SCUBA certifications
    • Provide continuous support to the Unit Leader and Marine Educator
    • Ensure a safe place (both emotionally and physically) for all staff and campers

    Requirements:

    • Implement our Marine Science curriculum using hands-on education techniques
    • Provide lessons to middle school-aged campers in subjects of marine science, conservation, biology, and coastal ecology

  • Head Chef / Kitchen Manager

    Overview

    The Food Service Manager for Surf Camp, Inc. must be a multi-talented individual with a strong desire to direct the overall food service operation, including purchasing, preparation, customer service, sanitation, personnel management, and record keeping.  Applicant must provide nutritious, well-prepared meals and snacks for all campers, staff and guests while limiting food waste.  Applicant should have a passion for conservation and enjoy working with teens.

    Principal Responsibilities

    During the summer months, we operate overnight marine biology and surf camps for teenagers, varying in length from 6 days up to 2 weeks. Additional staff members will assist you in the preparation and serving of all camp meals and snacks.

    Individual must maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: leadership, kitchen sanitation, meal planning, food preparation, punctuality, inventory management, as well as have a solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial in order for you to provide the best possible experience for each camper. Programs do require work on weekends and holidays, though there is some time off between camps to recharge and enjoy our amazing beachfront facility.

    Surf Camp, Inc. staff responsibilities are listed below but may not be limited to this list.

    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the camp’s food service
      • Oversee planning and preparation of nutritional meals, snacks and pack-out foods
      • Ensure preparation and serving of meals in a safe, efficient and timely manner
      • Prepare and cook food as the menu indicates: utilizing boiling, broiling, steaming or roasting of meat, poultry, vegetables, salads, soups and gravies
      • Prepare food: including, washing, peeling and chopping
      • Bake breads, muffins, and dessert items
      • Ability to maintain proper food temperatures and assess condition of food
      • Set up food, supplies and utensils for dining hall distribution
    • Inventory management and ordering of food, equipment and supplies
      • Effectively manage inventory of food supply and kitchen equipment
      • Inspect equipment regularly and report any needed repairs in a timely manner
      • Arrange for the routine maintenance, sanitation and upkeep of the camp kitchen, its equipment, and facilities

    Minimum Qualifications

    • At least 21 years of age
    • Experience in an institutional or large food service setting
    • Knowledge and experience in food service management: ordering, inventory, budgeting, food preparation, family-style and buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment
    • Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods
    • Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently
    • Supervisory experience
    • Current certifications: ServSafe, CPR, and First Aid
    • Willing to work long hours while maintaining energy and stamina
    • Strong communication, decision making, logistical, and organizational skills
    • Enjoy working with campers and staff in residential camp setting

    Physical Requirements

    packed lunches. Applicants should have a passion for conservation and enjoy working with teens.
    The applicant is responsible for ensuring students have a safe, healthy, and filling dining experience.

    Support Staff are the behind the scenes magic-makers of camp - creativity is required! Assist any and all units and instructors as needed by substitute teaching, driving, setting up activities, repairing gear, and a million other things.

    Overview

    Residential Support Staff Counselors for Surf Camp Inc’s residential programs (WB Surf Camp, Sea
    Turtle Camp, and Carolina Ocean Odyssey) must be multi-talented, service-oriented individuals with a
    strong desire to support our surf and marine science-based teams, support campers (ages 9-18), and
    assist wherever needed. Our programs attract participants from all over the world that have the desire
    to learn how to surf, explore marine science, scuba dive, and engage in ocean adventure activities.
    Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have a passion for marine stewardship, teaching, and inspiring youth. This position requires candidates to work as part of a team to instruct and provide a safe learning environment to every group of participants.

    Residential Support Staff Counselors will be responsible for completing a daily task list, assisting the
    Site Director whenever needed, logistical support with residential teams, program equipment
    management, the camp store, and any other duties assigned. Most importantly, Residential Support
    Staff Counselors must ensure that all staff and participants stay safe while having an awesome and
    life-enriching experience. No surf instruction experience is required for this position. Residential
    support staff counselors must be lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certified. This position reports to the
    Residential Site Director.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    Working in collaboration with other staff members, you will assist the Site Director and residential field
    teams however possible; provide supervision and instruction for participants in the field as needed, fill in for field team staff as needed, and complete daily task lists. This position will head the camp store
    and everything that entails, including managing inventory, sales, and our POS system.
    This individual must maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: Professionalism, organization,
    punctuality, problem solving, as well as have a solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial in order
    for you to provide the best possible experience for each participant. Programs require work on some
    weekends and holidays.

    Staff responsibilities are listed below but may not be limited to this list:

    • Appear every day, on time, in provided uniform
    • Lead camp activities
    • Have an understanding of the basics for all residential program
    • Assist wherever needed, possibly including kitchen and maintenance
    • Conduct ongoing supply and equipment inventory
    • Fill in as a counselor for any program as needed
    • Reside in and supervise a room of campers, if needed
    • Attend all scheduled staff meetings with the leadership team
    • Participate in daily meetings with the Site Director to go over any participant issues, logistics and schedule
    • Complete all pre and post-session tasks, including but not limited to reviewing camp binder preparing supplies  and inventory
    • Put participant needs before own; get to know each participant, make them feel welcome and accepted
    • Serve as a positive role model, display maturity, responsibility, flexibility, and sound judgment
    • Oversee participants’ safety
    • Clean, organize, and help prep camp facilities and vehicles at the end of each camp session
    • Communicate in a professional manner with participants/parents; be available to answer questions
    • Practice open communication with the team and address any issues immediately
    • Follow proper Emergency Procedures when necessary
    • Clearly understand company goals, our high safety standards, and mission
