  • Deckhand

    Prince William Sound, Alaska
    $16.00 - $16.00 / hour + tips

Do you love hiking, exploring, camping, or photography? Love to travel and experience new places? Alaska truly is the last great wilderness and you could get paid to come work in and explore this beautiful state. Phillips Cruises and Tours is seeking positive attitude crew members to serve as deckhands on board some of the finest passenger vessels anywhere. We are dedicated to sharing our passion for this amazing place with 1000’s of guest, from all over the world, each year.

Our deckhands are a multitalented crew able to move between the varied daily task with ease and a smile.

A standard day starts at 8:00am when crew arrive to the vessel to stock the boats with all the food/snacks necessary for the days cruise. Near 10:15am the boat is usually ready and the crew heads back to their apartments to clean up/ have a snack and change into our uniforms to head back down to the boats around 11:30. At this point we will begin boarding our passengers with departures between 12:45 and 1:00pm. Onboard you could be assigned to a deck position/bar position/ or galley position. We train our crew to fill as many positions as possible so that we can all rotate around. No matter your position for the day, we are all a team and work together to help out where needed to best serve our guests. The beginning of our cruise finds us doing table side meal service followed up by picking up plates and trash as people begin to finish their meals. Much of the rest of the cruise is spent talking to our guests and making sure they are having a safe and enjoyable trip on a well kept, continuously clean vessel. Our trips vary from 3.5 to 6.5 hours. After returning to the dock and saying goodbye to our guests we begin cleaning up from the day's trip and making a list of stock items needed for the following day's cruise.

When off of work you have all the splendor of Alaska in your backyard. You are surrounded by some of the most amazing hiking trails and scenery in the world. Company kayaks are provided and the crew often has gatherings on the dock after work for grilling. We try to have full crew gatherings once a month, with pizza and a bonfire being a favorite way to enjoy the time.

These positions are under the regulation of the United States Coast Guard and as such are subject to pre-employment drug screens and company wide random drug test.

We are based out of Whittier, Alaska. Only 1 hour south of Anchorage. Company housing is provided in Whittier at a nominal fee.
