Historic Maine Inn and Cottages On Penobscot Bay with restaurant and resort excursions!
Historic inn, with restaurant, activity barn and eight seaside cottages with stunning views on Penobscot Bay in Brooksville, Maine. New owners are renovating the inn, renting cottages and developing an activity program for guests: kayak and canoe tours, sailing, biking, fishing and hiking in this extraordinarily beautiful corner of Maine. Lobster bakes on the beach, too!
Our 60 acres on the coast was part of land grant from the King of England. Gorgeous ocean property, near the artsy town of Blue Hill and only an hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
About Oakland House Resort LLC
The Oakland House Inn and its Seaside Cottages grace the Brooksville side shores of Eggemoggin Reach in Penobscot Bay. Since 1889 guests have visited this breathtaking property on the Maine coastline to take in the ocean air, explore Downeast Maine and share an old-fashioned summer vacation with family and friends. New owners are re-opening the restaurant, once known for its lobster bakes and country breakfasts, and introducing resort excursions including boat rides to the seal ledges, guided kayak adventures, fishing and hiking, to name a few. The owners’ other business, an international summer camp for children, sits on the other side of the road, within walking distance, and some activities there will be available to guests at off-peak times.
The Employee Experience
Friendly staff build their skill sets and make life-long bonds with co-workers. A balance between traditional resort features and modern creativity stimulates a healthy, vibrant community. Expect to get back to nature, make lasting friendships, earn valuable career experience and—best of all—have lots of fun!
An ideal candidate is considering a career in the hospitality industry but does not have to have extensive experience. A positive attitude and willingness to help where needed are important traits.
Room and Board
Housing is bunk style living. All meals are included.
Because we are located in one of the prettiest vacationlands of the country, not far from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, full days off can be a mini-vacation. The staff enjoys wifi in our staff lounge as well as access to our fitness center. They are offered some transportation to local towns and activities on their days off, so there are many opportunities to explore the exceptional local sites.
Staff will also have access to the incredible diversity of activities offered by our nearby camp, which sits on a beautiful lake, including a vibrant waterfront with waterskiing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Most staffers travel by bus or plane to the city of Bangor, Maine, from where we offer direct van transportation to the resort. Driving to the Oakland House, however, can be the easiest and most enjoyable option. If you have access to a car and are undecided about whether to bring it to camp, our advice is to bring it! There is plenty of parking available, and having a vehicle will provide you with greater freedom during your time-off.
Downeast Maine offers an abundance of beauty and opportunities to explore in its coastline and inland regions. Explore the resort town of Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island, hike in Acadia National Park, visit charming coastal villages like Stonington, try lobster rolls in Blue Hill... the list of fun things to do in our area of Maine is endless.
