Mountain Camp is a residential children's summer camp, serving an average of 230 campers between ages 7-15 each session for 10 weeks during the summer. We are a diverse and vibrant community of youth development professionals, dedicated to helping kids grow through an exceptional camp experience that includes community building, recreational activities, creativity, and fun. Our Ropes Course is a highlight of our camp program.

Position Type: Seasonal, Full Time

Season Dates: May 27, 2024- August 25, 2024

Rate of Pay: Base pay starting at $650/ week, housing and meals provided

Job Description:

The Ropes Course Supervisor at Mountain Camp is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our ropes course, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. The ideal candidate will have experience in ropes course facilitation, a passion for youth development, and strong leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safety: Ensure that all ropes course activities are conducted in a safe manner, following industry best practices and standards. Conduct regular safety inspections and equipment checks.
  2. Staff Training: Train and supervise ropes course staff, providing ongoing support and guidance. Ensure that all staff are properly trained in ropes course operations and safety procedures. Provide frequent feedback to ropes staff to promote development of skills and ensure quality of program.
  3. Camper Experience: Ensure that all campers have a positive and enjoyable experience on the ropes course. Cultivate a strong culture of “challenge by choice” where campers are encouraged to try new things while feeling safe and supported by staff and peers.
  4. Facilitate Ropes Program: Run the ropes course during all 4 activity periods each day. Run speciality ropes programming as needed (night ropes, support staff ropes, family camp ropes). Plan curriculum, supervise set-up, execute program, monitor staff and equipment for safety, supervise clean-up. Adapt program to suit needs and desires of participants.
  5. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain ropes course equipment in good working condition. Log and store equipment to ensure manufacturers recommendations and lifespans. Repair and replace equipment both during the season and take an end of summer inventory with recommendations on equipment needs for the following year.
  6. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with ropes course activities. Develop and implement risk management strategies to ensure the safety of participants and staff.
  7. Team Building: Facilitate team-building activities on the ropes course, helping group to develop communication, trust, and leadership skills.
  8. Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate records of ropes course activities, including participant waivers, equipment inventory, maintenance logs, and assist directors with accreditation process when applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 seasons of experience in ropes course facilitation
  • Certificate in challenge course operations required (ACCT preferred)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in team environment
  • First Aid and CPR certification provided

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods.

Schedule:

  • This is a full-time, seasonal position
  • Evening and weekend work may be required, depending on program schedule
  • One 24hr day off each week in addition to daily time off.
