There are a variety of positions here at the dock!  Our season runs from Early May to Early September.  Below is a breakdown of our season:

EARLY SEASON:  May - Mid June

PEAK SEASON:  Mid June - Mid August

LATE SEASON:  Mid August to Early September

Early & late season hours tend to be slower than peak season hours.  Each employee will receive 1 scheduled day off a week. Due to the unpredictable nature of the fishery, hours are subject to change.  Managerial positions require a commitment throughout the whole season while other positions may require a commitment for the months of June, July, & August.  Below is an overview of our departments:

WEIGH-IN STATION:  Checks in customers fish for processing.

RETAIL:  Works as both a sales clerk and cashier.

PROCESSING:  Cuts, bags, vacuum seals, and racks fish.

FREEZER:  Handles all client pick-ups, shipments, and keeps freezer organized/maintained.

  • Retail Manager

    Reports To:  General Manager

    Pay Status:  Salary - $3,400-$4,000/month - Seasonal Full Time

    Schedule:  10 to 12 hour shifts, typically 10AM-10PM

    *Hours may vary between the slow season and peak season, with more demanding hours during the peak season.*

    Our RETAIL SPACE is where we sell all fresh frozen seafood, bait, apparel, and merchandise.  It's also where all of our processing/shipping clients close out their orders for sport caught fish.  The retail store has a fun social atmosphere that requires a salesmanship and team player qualities.  The manager of this department has the following responsibilities:

    - Oversees registers, big orders, and special clients.

    - Oversees the communication of all retail programs and seafood specials to each client.

    - Manages all other employees in this department.

    - Collaborates with the General Manager on weekly scheduling for retail employees.

    - Manages employee hours and overtime in this department.

    - Tracks inventory in this department, which includes Seafood, Bait, Apparel, & Merchandise.

    - Keeps the presentation of our retail store and merchandise in order.

    - Insures that all supplies necessary to operate the retail store are organized and are on-hand everyday.

    - Responsible for closing down the store & registers. 

    - Answers the phone.

    - Expected to assist in other departments when needed.

  • Weigh-in Station Manager

    Reports To:  General Manager

    Pay Status:  Salary - $3,400-$4,000/month - Seasonal Full Time

    Schedule:  10 to 12 hour shifts, typically 10AM-10PM

    The WEIGH-IN STATION is our clients' first impression of J-Dock Seafood.  Arguably the most eventful and exciting experience of the company.  This department is responsible for greeting the customer, as well as checking in, organizing, and transporting their fish from the dock to the processing room.  More importantly, this department is responsible for communicating all J-Dock Seafood specials to the client so that he or she may get the best deal available, all the while reassuring the client that their fish will be handled with the utmost attention and care.  The manager of this department has the following responsibilities:

    - Oversees that all processing/shipping rates & specials are communicated to the client.

    - Speaks with clients to fill out weigh in forms and answers any questions regarding our services.

    - Oversees that the stations are stocked with the proper amount of tools & supplies everyday (tubs, knives, cleaning rags, colored tags, pens, & order books).

    - Manages all employees at the weigh station.  All Weigh In employees must remain at their posts at all times.

    - Orchestrates the flow of the weigh in station to avoid back up.

    - Assists with large orders that require more time.

    - Effectively communicates to other departments when necessary.

    - Closes down and cleans the weigh stations.

    - Answers the phone.

    - Might also assist in other departments when needed.

  • Processing Manager

    Reports To:  General Manager

    Pay Status:  Salary - $3,400-$4,000/month - Seasonal Full Time

    Below is a breakdown of our PROCESSING CLOSING HOURS:

    Slow Season:  Ranges from 7PM-11PM

    Peak Season:  Ranges from 11PM-4AM

    *Closing hours depend on the amount of fish brought in on a given evening.*

                                                                                                                                                                                                

    The PROCESSING ROOM is responsible for cutting, bagging, and vacuum sealing sport caught fish, as well as J-Dock Seafood retail fish.  Cleanliness and care is the utmost importance in the processing room, where we treat each piece of fish as if it were our own.  The manager of this department has the following responsibilities:

    - Oversees the process of cutting, bagging, and vacuum sealing fish.

    - Will be required to primarily work on the vacuum sealing machine, but must be trained on cutting & bagging as well.

    - Sets the pacing for the employees in this department.

    - Inspects all product before it goes into the freezer.

    - Keeps track of inventory of supplies in this department.

    - Keeps the sanitation of our processing room immaculate at all times.

    - Collaborates with the general manager on a weekly schedule for processing employees.

    - Implements the work schedule.

    - Manages all employees in this department.

    - Opens/closes.

  • Assistant Processing Manager

    Reports To:  Processing Manager

    Pay Status:  Salary - $3,000-$3,600/month - Seasonal Full Time

    Schedule: 10 to 12 hour shifts, typically 3PM-Closing.

    *Hours may vary between the slow season and peak season, with more demanding hours during the peak season.*

    Below is a breakdown of our PROCESSING CLOSING HOURS:

    Slow Season:  Ranges from 7PM-11PM

    Peak Season:  Ranges from 11PM-4AM

    The Assistant Processing Manager is the 2nd in command to the Processing Manager.  He or she has the following responsibilities:

    - Keeps track of inventory of supplies in this department.

    - Acts as Manager when the Processing Manager is not present.

  • Freezer Manager

    Reports To:  General Manager

    The SHIPPING department requires a very organized and meticulous personality.  This is where all clients fish are frozen, boxed up, and either picked up or shipped out.  Due to the large volume of clients and seafood, it is the utmost importance for this department to be thorough in checking and double checking the freezer organization.  The freezer is the heart of J-Dock Seafood, the fish is the blood that flows through it, and the Shipping Manager is the energy that keeps the heart pumping and the blood flowing.  The Manager of this department has the following responsibilities:

    - Manages all shipments to insure that they're sent out on time.

    - Types shipment labels.

    - Boxes fish for pick up or shipment.

    - Assists clients in loading fish into their car when picking up.

    - Maintains friendly customer service.

    - Oversees the organization and structure in the freezer. 

    - Keeps Freezer log updated and does routine checks on Freezer Temperature.

    - Opens at 5:30AM to help with dispersing bait to Captains.

    - Manages Bait Inventory.

    - Manages shipping box inventory.

    - Keeps track of inventory supplies.

    - Works with General Manager on a weekly schedule for this department.

  • Customer Service Representative

    Reports To:  Retail Manager/Weigh-in Manager

    Pay Status:  Hourly - $11-$13/Hour - Seasonal Full Time & Part Time

    Schedule: 8 hour shifts with the opportunity for overtime, typically 4PM-Midnight 

    *Hours may vary between the slow season and peak season, with more demanding hours during the peak season.*

    *Hours depend on the amount of fish being brought in off the boats*

                                                                                                                                                                                                  

    Customer Service positions at J-Dock Seafood might require you to be flexible between the Retail Department and the Weigh-In Station.  Below are the responsibilities of our customer service positions:

     

    WEIGH IN STATION

    - Checks in customers fish which includes:  heavy lifting, weighing and splitting species, setting up individuals orders, and writing tags.

    - Greets customers when they arrive.

    - Communicates special offers to clients.

    - Communicates effectively to each department.

    - Functions as a sales person for all of our products and services.

    - Helps maintain the cleanliness of the Weigh-In Station.

    - Will be trained in processing for when help is needed.

     

    RETAIL STORE

    - Operates the register.

    - Greets customers when they come in.

    - Communicates special offers to customers.

    - Communicates effectively to each department.

    - Functions as a sales person for all of our products and services.

    - Restocks seafood, apparel, & merchandise.

    - Helps maintain the cleanliness of the Retail Store.

    - Will be trained in processing for when help is needed.

  • Processor

    Reports To:  Processing Manager/Assistant Processing Manager

    Pay Status:  Hourly - $11-$13/Hour - Seasonal Full Time & Part Time

    Schedule: 8 hour shifts with the opportunity for overtime, typically 5PM-1AM 

    *Hours may vary between the slow season and peak season, with more demanding hours during the peak season.*

    *Hours depend on the amount of fish being brought in off the boats*

                                                                                                                                                                                                

    Our Processing Department primarily functions in the evening, work starting around 4pm and ending around midnight.  During peak season, some days may require shifts to run past midnight.  Retail seafood is often processed in the afternoon which would then require a processor to work the day shift.  An employee in the processing department has the following responsibilities:

    - Portions and cleans fish.

    - Bags fish into vacuum seal bags.

    - Works on the vacuum packing machines.

    - Racks and records vacuum sealed fish for the freezer.

    - Cleans tubs.
