Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve, Colorado

Covering some 150,000 acres, 25 miles northeast of Alamosa,  Colorado, at the western base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, this national park features the highest sand dunes in North America, with ever-changing crests that rise to 700 feet. The diversity of landscape includes grasslands, wetlands, forests, alpine lakes, and tundra.
