Kitchen Assistants at Friends Camp are called superpeople because their role at camp is so vital. Superpeople spend most of their time working with our head cooks to prepare healthy and tasty meals from scratch for the camp of around 150 people. They also spend time with campers daily, building relationships and providing important supervision. Superpeople get to enjoy slightly more downtime than counselors, and they in live housing separate from campers. Our kitchen team works collaboratively to make meals, and superpeople often form very close friendships with their coworkers.
Friends Camp is a Quaker overnight camp located in central Maine. Staff must be at least 19 years old and have some experience with kids. The summer of 2024 goes from June 14th to August 17th, including one week of staff training and 8 weeks of camp. The summer is split into four two-week sessions: the first session with kids ages 7-12, the second with ages 10-13, and the final two sessions with ages 13-17. We are a Quaker camp, but we welcome and value people of all religious and spiritual identities, including atheists and agnostics, and we do not proselytize.
