About Camp Skylemar

Located in the Lakes Region of southern Maine, Camp Skylemar is a recreational summer camp limited to 200 boys from across the country who attend for 7 weeks. Camp Skylemar has provided outstanding instruction, within a warm, nurturing, friendly and family atmosphere, for 70 years. Behind every activity at Skylemar is a focus on what matters more than just participating: sportsmanship, teamwork, understanding, compassion, and kindness.

In addition to providing instructional leadership in one or more activities throughout the day, Skylemar staff have the opportunity to teach, coach and mentor kids as well as serve as big brother/sister, friend, role model, adviser and hero. Staff are also involved with many special events, plus day and overnight trips.

Camp activities include:
• Outdoor Adventure: ropes course, climbing, hiking, camping and outdoor skills
• Water Sports: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, water skiing, wake boarding, wake surfing, water polo and fishing
• Sports: lacrosse, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, hockey, archery, football, soccer and volleyball
• Arts, Music & Sciences: photography, theatre arts, culinary arts, science, wood shop, art, video production, crafts, piano, graphic design and guitar

Camp Skylemar seeks educators, outdoor enthusiasts, coaches, athletes, leaders, mentors, and role models who relish in sharing positive lessons and knowledge to boys!

The Employee Experience

Many find that being a Counselor at Skylemar is not only a great way to spend the summer, but perhaps the best job they'll ever have. Long after their counseling days have surrendered to a variety of careers, former counselors and campers often revisit Skylemar to recapture happy memories of days that remain an important part of their lives.

Male counselors live with a group of 8 or 9 boys and another counselor.  We have separate on-campus housing for female and leadership team members. For most of the counselors, a certain bonding takes place, and a counselor often chooses on his/her own to stay in touch with the boys during the winter.  Counselors often become lifelong friends with each other, even though most have never met before coming to camp.

The job involves seven weeks with the boys.  We ask staff to come one to two weeks earlier for orientation and staff training.  The time span would cover from June 9 to August 10.  A summer-long in-service training program follows a carefully planned pre-camp orientation. Staff meetings are conducted regularly.

Skylemar seeks role models who have shown fine character, athletes who've been leaders on and off the field, and educators who relish in sharing positive lessons and knowledge. If being the positive influence that a boy will remember the rest of his life appeals to you, apply online.

• Fun, energetic, creative, supportive and patient
• Enthusiastic about working with boys ages 7-16

• Comfortable teaching all levels, from the nervous to experienced

While most staff members are specialists in one or more activities, all staff members are chosen because they have a sincere interest in working with young people. Applicants must have completed at least one year of college.
