Position Description: The Operations Manager is responsible for overall smooth operations during an 8 week summer program from mid-June to mid-August. The Operations Manager manages the business end of camp: financial, human resources, IT, and risk management. During the summer, the OM oversees the chef, staff onboarding, staff certifications, time-off scheduling and payroll. The OM also orders supplies and fields maintenance requests. Although this role is often behind the scenes, the OM is very present in the daily life of camp. The operations manager must have strong computer skills, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
Responsibilities and Key Functions:
- Keeper of the health inspector binder and therefore will track and record all staff certifications.
- Liaison for the chef and will check in on the chef daily to be sure he is aware of any routine or schedule changes for the next day. Order any supplies requested by the chef. Suggest menu changes.
- Schedule time off for staff along with the Director of Staff Care.
- Schedule time off activities for staff along with the driver. Post daily schedule and sign up sheet for staff.
- Help staff to complete all necessary onboard paperwork including the I-9, ensure all background checks for staff have been completed, help staff enroll into the payroll system, field questions about payroll, support staff in applying for bank accounts or other direct deposit accounts, and deliver paper checks to staff members timely.
- Coordinate staff evaluations, camper evaluations, camper surveys and forms.
- Work with the admin/registrar to inform families of any changes to the schedule.
- Field maintenance requests and work with the Facilities Director to ensure completion of projects.
- Open all mail, sort and deliver to appropriate parties.
- Oversee staff cleaning days between sessions.
- Along with the admin, answering the camp phones, taking messages and relaying them to the appropriate staff member.
- Running errands into town and driving campers and staff when needed including runs to the social security office for international staff.
- Run camper reports and organize material for check-in and check-out days.
- Supporting the Directors with accounting tasks including managing receipts and invoices
- Support the Admin with other tasks to keep the camp running smoothly.
- Order program supplies as needed via Amazon or Walmart.
- Keep accurate accounts, reports and records.

- Help to ensure that the camp facility is well-cared for and kept clean.

Position Description: The Agassiz Village Office Manager is responsible for delivering high quality customer service to ensure that each child is registered properly, through computer data input, verbal communication, and handling of financial transactions. The Office Manager is an integral member of our team and contributes to the success of each camper’s summer experience. You interact with both camp staff and camper families on a regular basis, making many positive contributions to the lives of our campers and staff. The Office Manager is often the first point of contact for campers and families and is an indispensable connection with our camper families, as an office manager, account manager and office assistant and should provide a positive customer experience for staff, parents, and campers.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as camp receptionist with regular daily office hours from 9am to 6pm and provide necessary information to camp families and respond via email and phone to camper inquiries.
- Call/email camper families about missing forms (i.e., parent handbooks, USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) form, health history forms), payments, and transportation updates.
- Handle billing, payment plans, refunds, and collections.
- Help to coordinate email blasts to update families about pick-up and drop-off, camp activities, packing list, etc.
- Order supplies for the Camp Store and organize the store items replenishing when necessary.
- Receive and sort all mail and open camper boxes to ensure package is appropriate for campers to receive.
- Assist the Program Director and Camp Director with camper pick-up and drop-off by preparing camper lists and other materials as well as being on duty at location assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Agassiz Village Daytime Activities Manager is responsible for creating and overseeing all daytime programming (archery, waterfront, performing arts, yoga, art, nature, sports, etc.). They are also responsible for creating and implementing the activity curriculum, guidelines and procedures that align with the program goals and outcomes Agassiz wants to achieve. They are also accountable for the daily needs of the program. This includes maintenance, facilitating, leading and/or supervising the specific program areas and providing constant positive feedback and guiding the campers and staff to strive for excellence in everything they do. The Daytime Activities Manager works closely with the Evening and Weekend Activities Manager to ensure all campers are having fun, collaborating, exploring and thriving. Together you are responsible for 5-8 staff members (activity instructors) and ensuring they are running adequate programming that is consistent with the outcomes we want children to achieve.
Responsibilities and Key Functions:
- Prepare for daytime activities in advance by creating lesson plans, determining materials needed, ensuring supplies have been ordered in advance of events, and making sure staff are trained to carry out the event and understand their role in the success of the event.
- Lead safe, age appropriate, and enriching activities.
- Ensure all equipment, materials, and supplies are returned to storage immediately after the event and that staff and campers have cleaned the space before retiring for the night.
- Deliver progressive and challenging programming that allows children to grow and make strides toward achieving goals.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Agassiz Village Social and Emotional Experiential Learning Instructor facilitates activities for youth ages 8-16. This role is responsible for planning an SEL curriculum, flow of each activity, set up and break down of the activities, facilitating students, and maintaining safety. The SEL activities you facilitate should support camper growth in the following areas: critical thinking, perseverance, communication, social awareness and peer relationships, teamwork, and self-regulation. Campers will be assessed at the beginning and end of each session so you can track the success of the SEL program and use those outcomes to support campers and make necessary improvements to the program. The SEL coordinator will build the capacity of other camp staff members to understand and implement SEL in their work with campers, and they will oversee the collection and interpretation of assessment data such as camper feedback forms and counselor interviews. The ideal candidate will be skilled in SEL facilitation and working with a variety of students and ages. Instructors work closely with the Director of Youth Development and Experience to ensure a service vision for Agassiz Village Summer Camp Program. Class size varies but typically the instructor will have 12 students per hour several times throughout the day.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulate, plan, and lead safe, age appropriate, and enriching SEL activities.

The Agassiz Village Health Center EMT works closely with the Camp Nurses to ensure effective daily operations of the Camp’s Health Center and health and wellness of Agassiz Village campers and staff. Health Center Staff also ensures compliance with state and federal laws and American Camp Association (ACA) standard requirements.
At the end of Camp season, the Health Center Staff conduct an efficient pack down of Health Center operations. The Camp Nurse and Health Center staff will provide the Camp Director with a formal report that includes an operations review with recommendations for the next Camp season.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed in Maine as an EMS advanced EMT.
- Must be 21 or older and have a valid driver’s license.
- Possess current CPR certification that is renewed annually and current first aid certifications.
- Must have medication administration certification and injectable medication training.
- Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintain records, and implement the health care plan.
- Desire to work and live in a camp community.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be highly organized.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure each staff member and camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required.
- Set up system for health screening for arriving campers and staff, as well as a system for health screening for trips out-of-camp.
- Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary, ensuring timely arrival of supplies.
- Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including recordkeeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
- Assist with coverage of the health center.
- Post hours for daily medications and health call.
- Responsible for driving sick patients to the local hospital and/or emergency room center and waiting with patients while they receive care.
- Assist in making appointments and coordinating care and follow-up services, when necessary, with medical/dental personnel in the community, and contact parents/legal guardians of camp participants before and/or following any visits to the doctor, dentist, or a medical/treatment facility.
- Check and restock first-aid kits.
- Maintain camp accident/incident reports and as indicated, report such matters to the camp director and/or physician.
- Monitor the health of all camp staff, providing nursing interventions and seeking physician and other health services, as indicated.
- Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and suggest improvements and modifications that would create more healthful conditions.
- Live on-site for the duration of the camp period and provide licensed professional nursing services as needed by state, federal, and American Camp Association guidelines.
- Inspect camper living areas, camp program and service areas for health and safety conditions and advising camp director on same.
- Report all admissions to the infirmary to the camp director or designee.
- Be always available for medical emergencies, including overnight.
- Guide counselors regarding their responsibilities in noting and reporting illness, injury or unsafe practices and conditions that might contribute to camper and staff accidents.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Agassiz Village Waterfront Director is responsible for supervising a team of 6-7 lifeguards, and 150 campers ages 8-17 while on the waterfront, including all water activities, equipment, and facilities. The Waterfront Director ensures that the Camp’s waterfront program and protocols are followed in compliance with the regulations for Department of Health and American Camp Association standards. They will provide a safe and nurturing environment for all and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities.
Responsibilities and Key Functions:
- Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun waterfront program.
- Create (with the help of the Program Director) lesson plans that meet camp goals for all waterfront activities including swimming instruction, fishing, boating and canoeing.
- Ensure the learn-to-swim program follow established goals and provide support and oversight for waterfront staff in the learn-to-swim program implementation.
- Keep records on all participants, help them progress from beginner to advanced levels.
- Ensure waterfront staff are enforcing and following all rules and are fulfilling all of their assigned duties.
- Evaluate aquatics abilities of campers and staff.
- Formally evaluate Lifeguards twice during the season and assist in setting and meeting goals.
- Deliver safe and creative swim and watercraft program activities.
- Coordinate with the Program Director, and any other staff to facilitate special events on the waterfront including Olympics event that has various water activities and challenges.
- Work with the Program Director to ensure appropriate lesson plans for each age group and monitor teaching quality, and actively aid staff in becoming better instructors.

- Follow established health and safety standards of the ACA and Maine Dept. of Health.

- Water Safety Instructor trained or ability to complete training at camp.
- Familiar with American Camp Association accreditation standards and State of Maine regulations regarding waterfronts.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Agassiz Village Lifeguard/Boat Driver facilitates full-day programs for youth ages 8-17. This role is responsible for driving the boats during the Waterfront activity periods and lifeguarding during free swim periods. They are responsible for planning the boating curriculum and ensuring skills building for campers. They set up and break down the program area, facilitating students through the program elements, and maintaining safety. Along with the Waterfront Director, they ensure that the Camp’s waterfront program and protocols are followed in compliance with the regulations for Department of Health and American Camp Association standards. The ideal candidate will be skilled in facilitation and working with a variety of students and ages. Instructors work closely with the Director of Youth Development and Experience to ensure a service vision for Agassiz Village Summer Camp Program. Class size varies but typically the instructor will have 12-14 students per hour several times throughout the day. When not actively working at the Waterfront, may act in the capacity of a Cabin Counselor with an assigned cabin group.

- Safely drive the boats for banana boating and tubing activities, while supervising campers and staff.
- Transport campers in boats to our islands for overnight camping experiences.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Agassiz Village Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swimming skills to campers ages 8-16 during the Waterfront activity periods and lifeguarding during free swim periods. They are responsible for planning the swimming instruction curriculum and ensuring skills building for campers. They set up and break down the program area, facilitating students through the program elements, and maintaining safety. Along with the Waterfront Director, they ensure that the Camp’s waterfront program and protocols are followed in compliance with the regulations for Department of Health and American Camp Association standards. The ideal candidate will be skilled in facilitation and working with a variety of students and ages. Instructors work closely with the Director of Youth Development and Experience to ensure a service vision for Agassiz Village Summer Camp Program. Class size varies but typically the instructor will have 12-14 students per hour several times throughout the day. When not actively working at the Waterfront, may act in the capacity of a Cabin Counselor with an assigned cabin group.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Agassiz Village (AV) Driver creates opportunities for work/life balance for Agassiz Village summer staff members. They will be responsible for picking up staff from the bus or airport, driving staff off camp in the evenings and taking staff on excursions on their days off. The Driver will be responsible for planning the daily scheduling, advertising opportunities to staff members and encouraging staff to sign up in advance for opportunities. The Driver will encourage staff to take their breaks away from camp to rejuvenate and come back ready to work. The driver will arrange logistics, outdoor and evening activities, and sightseeing excursions. The driver may also be responsible for picking up and dropping off campers when needed. The Driver should have a customer-service-oriented disposition, fun and outgoing attitude, and enjoy interacting with people from all over the country and the world. Experience is a plus, but not required. Safe driving skills are a must. This position is for a reliable, safety-driven, organized individual with a desire for fun and adventure!

- The driver is responsible for planning off camp excursions for staff members to participate in on their days off or in the evenings. You are creative, good at planning and scheduling and are reliable and a self-starter.
- The driver is punctual and ensure trips are planned, scheduled and operate on time. Typical trips will be shopping in Portland or Freeport, hiking, beach activities, etc. In the evenings trips may include stops at Walmart and local restaurants.
- Pick up staff from the bus or the airport at arrival to camp and departure from camp.
- On occasion drive campers home or to the local doctor.
- Run errands for camp while you are out.
- Transport staff to scheduled appointments and activities on time.
- Ensure that the vehicle is clean and tidy at all times.
- Conduct daily safety checks on vehicle and always make sure there is enough gas and all fluids are at optimal levels.

The Agassiz Village Cabin Counselor is responsible for ensuring overall camper well-being, keeping a cabin group of 12 campers (ages vary from 8-16) on schedule with activities, and leading camp activities. A counselor’s work includes assisting with camper management during activities, in cabins, on sports fields, at the waterfront and in the dining hall. Counselors may lead daily activities, like crafts, outdoor games, musical performances, and may perform other responsibilities. Counselors supervise and manage campers at all times, except during scheduled breaks. Counselors participate in whole camp activities and special events such as talent shows, and camp competitions. Counselors also accompany youth on overnight trips to one of our islands. The Cabin Counselor is responsible for helping to implement Agassiz Village Social & Emotional Learning curriculum by setting a positive example for kids. Counselors set the tone of the cabin, create the cabin rules with youth, correct inappropriate behavior, and ensure personal grooming, cabin clean up, bedtime routines are happening. Counselors are the ambassadors of fun, while following all safety rules and regulations.

- Act as a role model in all aspects of camp and be expected to be fully and actively engaged with campers while on duty (including meals, cabin activities, program areas, special and all-camp events, etc.).

- Ensure that all health regulations are followed: appropriate and diligent use of sunscreen and bug spray; addressing conditions like sniffles, coughing, rashes, sores, blisters, and head (or other) scratching; and getting enough rest, proper eating, and drinking plenty of water.

This position is open to applicants currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters in Behavioral/Wellness Health, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a M.E.S.H. related field. The Youth Advocate role is critical in supporting the behavioral, mental, social and wellness health of campers ages 8-17 throughout their time at our overnight summer camp. They are responsible for establishing strong, positive relationships with the youth at camp, as well as serve as a resource for other seasonal program staff. This is a residential position, requiring full-time residence at Agassiz Village’s camp from June 19 to August 9, 2024. Free room and board are provided as well as a stipend.
Job Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Youth advocates are assigned to a cabin section and work under our LCSW licensed Director of Camper Care and help establish and maintain healthy and appropriate relationships with youth, focusing on safety, support, interaction, and engagement.
- Utilize strengths-based counseling with youth around issues such as homesickness, peer conflict, family issues, and mental health issues.
- Anticipate and mitigate situations of difficult youth behavior.
- Review cabin counselor notes twice daily identifying issues that may be developing and addressing those issues before they become more challenging.
- Facilitate training for seasonal program staff.
- Provide ongoing guidance and coaching to seasonal staff on how to appropriately respond to youth needs and behaviors.
- Identify youth needs through discussion and observation then respond using the appropriate intervention.
- Obtain personal care items and other resources for youth as needed.
- Communicate with families to discuss their child’s successes and challenges while at camp, when necessary.
- Consult with the Director of Camper Care and Camp Nurse regarding youth issues and/or disclosures; complete necessary documentation related to youth issues and/or disclosures.
- Work one-on-one with campers who are having trouble participating in the program.
- Be present throughout the day interacting with children during meal times, activities and rest periods helping to build a positive climate by ensuring youth feel welcomed, are warmly greeted, are valued and target the development of SEL skills.
- Embed SEL instruction within regular activities, such as pausing a basketball lesson to teach strategies about how to persist through frustration, or enacting instructional strategies during regular activities that explicitly support SEL skill development, such as talking to children about how to work productively with one another in a group assignment.
- Instruct stand-alone SEL lessons that explicitly targets SEL topics, such as relationship skills or identifying one’s emotions. These lessons can include the use of SEL lesson plans and pacing guides.
- Help Cabin counselors to set the culture of camp by identifying cabin rules and expectations on how we treat each other and camp with respect, care and dignity.
- Provide group support in the cabin setting including assisting with facilitating group conversations to help prevent bullying or other forms of negative behavior or aggression.
- Intervene if campers are experiencing significant behavioral challenges.

The Agassiz Village Yoga Instructor develops lesson plans and teaches yoga and meditation lessons that help students ages 8-17 to learn how to self-regulate through breath-work and mindful movement for 6 weeks during the summer. The Yoga Instructor should possess yoga experience as a participant and an instructor as well as a passion for passing on life skills and values through athletic participation. The ideal candidate will be able to create lessons that increase body awareness in a safe and controlled way, which can promote feelings of physical, emotional, and psychological safety for co-ed campers. The Agassiz Village Evening and Weekend Activities Manager is responsible for creating and overseeing all evening and weekend programming (Olympics, carnival, village events, movie night, overnight camping, talent shows, dance, etc.). They are also responsible for creating and implementing the activity curriculum, guidelines and procedures that align with the program goals and outcomes Agassiz wants to achieve. They are also accountable for the daily needs of the program. This includes maintenance, facilitating, leading and/or supervising the specific program areas and providing constant positive feedback and guiding the campers and staff to strive for excellence in everything they do. The Evening and Weekend Activities Manager works closely with the Daytime Activities Manager to ensure all campers are having fun, collaborating, exploring and thriving. Together you are responsible for 5-8 staff members (activity instructors) and ensuring they are running adequate programming that is consistent with the outcomes we want children to achieve.

The Director of Staff Care helps to lead the Agassiz Village Overnight Summer Camp Cabin Staff Team, providing key leadership and support to our summer staff team, modelling our culture and philosophy, and ensuring that our summer camp staff are adequately supported. Our Director of Staff Care helps the staff to grow and develop in the areas of: Community Building, Camper Development, Camper Engagement, and Behavior Management. They have strong skills in mentoring and building relationships with young adults. The Director of Camper Care helps to lead the Agassiz Village Cabin Staff Team, providing key leadership and support to our summer staff team, modelling our culture and philosophy, and ensuring that campers are behaving appropriately. Our Director of Camper Care ensures that each of our campers receive the best possible care within our camp environment. The Director of Camper Care is responsible for supporting the mental, emotional, and social well-being of all campers ages 8-17. This staff member will serve as a critical component of our Camper Care Team and guide Agassiz Village in creating an environment that’s welcoming for all. The Director of Camper Care will assist staff members with managing the social dynamics and behavior of their campers, while assisting them in meeting camper needs. The Director of Camper Care will regularly speak with parents of campers to elicit collaboration in achieving success for their camper. Together with a team of talented individuals, the Director of Camper Care will help to ensure the attention to and support of each camper’s well-being while in our care, including our community members’ Mental, Emotional, and Social Health (MESH) needs. This is a great opportunity to leverage previous professional experience in a role that offers seasonal flexibility and the opportunity for a mental health professional to work alongside year-round Professional Staff and a seasonal youth leadership team to employ strategic thinking, problem-solving, thoughtful, and intentional care and guidance, and the delicate and expert touch needed to help ensure the highest quality of care of our youth participants. With the primary goal of supporting campers, the Director of Camper Care will provide hands-on care to campers, with a focus on being a resource to staff members in their work with children at camp. Responsibilities:
- Be an active presence on-site at camp as a part of the community.
- Camper Development: Leads the charge on making intentional decisions to help our campers learn and grow. Works closely with the Director of Staff Care to ensure that every staff member is regularly thinking through our Camper Development and approach to ensure the most impactful possible camp experience. Provide on-going guidance and support to staff when responding to situations that arise with campers, including camper adjustment issues and/or separation anxieties, bullying, teasing, homesickness, moments of sadness, or other mental health concerns. Provide on-going support to staff in determining the appropriate response to campers’ behavioral /emotional/ mental health needs. Build a strong and positive relationship with campers: help every camper make friends, become acclimated to camp life, grow toward his/her potential, and become a part of the community
- Cabin Dynamic: Help the cabin to set and adhere to the cabin rules. Meet with cabins as a whole to ensure a healthy team dynamic free from bullying, race issues, and negative language. Provide support and guidance to campers and/or staff after camper disclosures, crises, or stressful/traumatic events. Crete a system for tracking personal items and lost and found are created and maintained in a fun and creative manner. Be sure each cabin has a method in place to ensure that our facilities remain clean, tidy and that the responsibilities are equally shared amongst campers and staff.
- Camper Engagement: Demonstrates how to effectively use each moment of the day to build relationships with campers and make every part of the day fun. Helps to brainstorm ways to make downtime, mealtimes, bedtime, etc. as engaging as possible.
- Community Building: Helps to give support and insight into building meaningful connections with and between campers.
- Behavior Management: Works with cabin counselors to complete the daily camper logs appropriately and then checks the logs daily to address and troubleshoot challenging behavior situations according to our program philosophy. Also, provides extra support to campers who need it. Make recommendations to the Camp Director for campers to go home who may not be emotionally mature enough to handle the camp environment. Develop behavioral plans, schedules, trainings and strategies for working with campers in order to ensure that the physical, social and emotional well-being of participants is being met.
- Routine Management: Weighs in on best practices to create meaningful routines within cabin groups.
- Parent Liaison: Connects with parents/guardians to provide updates on camp stay, collect further information, and notify them of incidents.
- General Management: Model our philosophy and values, encouraging a positive culture and staff dynamic. Contribute positively to our camp environment. Communicate all relevant information to the Camp Director. Ensure camper safety is maintained according to relevant policies and procedures. - Staff Training: Playing a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff learning related to mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH).
- Communication: Managing information about camper needs, and communicating those to staff, as well as documenting communication and plans as appropriate.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Camp Director, Program Director, Village Leaders, Social and Emotional Interns, and Health Center staff to monitor the overlap of the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers.
- Prior to Camp Starting: Reviewing camper files pre-season, and document camper care/situations at camp. Consult with parents, mental health professionals, and/or other appropriate person(s) to address any concerns, in making appropriate accommodations prior to campers’ arrival.
- Serenity Cabin: Maintain the Serenity Cabin which can be utilized as home base but the expectation is that this position is active in the community during busy program times.
- Participate as a driver if needed to escort a camper home.
Qualifications:
- Graduate-level or higher degree in a mental health field. Including, but not limited to: social work, mental health counseling, psychology, youth psychiatry, family therapy, etc.
