South Pass City State Historic Site

South Pass City Historic Site is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of South Pass City, Wy. As an old gold mining town we have more than 30 historic buildings in the townsite and at the Carissa Mill. We give tours of the Carissa Mill and English Tunnels, put on events for the community, and maintain historic buildings.

We are located in central Wyoming about 40 miles from Lander. We sit just to the north of Wyoming's Red Desert and to the south of the Shoshone National Forest and Wind River Mountain Range.
