Wilderness Camp Chef / Backcountry Cook
Where adventure meets the art of fire-cooked meals
Step into a role where your kitchen has no walls, your ceiling is a canopy of stars, and your meals fuel unforgettable wilderness experiences. We’re looking for a passionate, resilient, and creative Wilderness Camp Chef to bring warmth, nourishment, and culinary magic to remote backcountry pack trips.
This is more than a cooking job—it’s a chance to live and work in wild, breathtaking landscapes, to become an essential part of a tight-knit team, and to deliver an unforgettable experience for every guest.
What You’ll Do
Collaborate with a designated Kitchen Manager to thoughtfully plan, portion, purchase, and prep meals for multi-day wilderness pack trips
Prepare three hearty, satisfying meals each day for up to 12 people—primarily over an open fire
Create and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient backcountry kitchen setup in remote environments
Ensure proper food portioning and rationing for the duration of each trip
Skillfully pack food panniers for transport by mule
Assist with loading and packing mules, working closely with guides and wranglers
Clean, maintain, and care for all kitchen equipment in rugged outdoor conditions
What It Takes
Ability to ride confidently on horseback through mountainous terrain for up to 9 hours in a day
Physical strength to lift and carry up to 65 lbs regularly
Comfort living and working in remote wilderness settings, including grizzly country
Adaptability, grit, and a positive attitude in ever-changing outdoor conditions
A passion for cooking, especially in rustic or fire-based environments
Why You’ll Love It
Trade the traditional kitchen for open skies, mountain air, and crackling campfires
Be part of a unique adventure experience that guests will remember for a lifetime
Develop your skills in backcountry cooking, logistics, and wilderness living
Work alongside a team that values self-reliance, camaraderie, and respect for the land
Experience the deep satisfaction of feeding and fueling adventure in the wild
If you thrive on challenge, love the outdoors, and believe great meals are the heart of any great adventure, this role is calling you.
Ride and cook where the wild things are.
