THIS POSITION STARTS AT $13.00 PER HOUR PLUS TIPS. ONCE A CANDIDATE HAS PASSED AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING REQUIREMENTS THE WAGE WILL BE RAISED TO $17.00 PER HOUR PLUS TIPS. ALL LIFEGUARDS SHARE DUTIES WITH RECREATION ATTENDANTS, AND IN TURN SHARE THE TIP POOL FROM CONCESSIONS. 


Summary/Objective 

The lifeguard will explain safety rules to guests, warn them about unsafe situations, and enforce polices on showers and proper attire. You will play an instrumental role in maintaining orderliness by inspecting swimming pool areas, showers, and restrooms. You will maintain pool equipment, monitor and record pool temperatures, and regular cleaning and testing of pools. 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Open and close the pool each day according to scheduled hours. 

  • Regularly treat the pool with the correct amount of chemicals. 

  • Closely monitor activities related to the pool area, identify any safety issues throughout shift. 

  • Direct swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions. 

  • Closely monitor weather reports to make sure guests remain safe. 

  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services if necessary. 

  • Able to act quickly and appropriately to secure the safety of guests in the event of an emergency. 

  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service. 

  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. 

  • Able to follow routine verbal and written instructions. 

  • Organize and oversee pool parties. 

  • Maintain a clean pool environment. 

  • Attend and participate in regular trainings and department meetings. 

  • Provide a welcoming environment for all guests. 

  • Assist in concessions with running the register, prepare food, and maintain cleanliness of the facility and grounds.  

  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities  

  • None. 

Required Skills/Abilities 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to meet customers’ needs and provide necessary assistance. 

  • Ability to learn the procedures, rules, and regulations for the facility. 

  • Ability to master multiple job responsibilities required at the facility. 

  • Ability to work on weekends and evenings 

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations 

  • Excellent time management skills. 

Required Education and Experience 

  • At least 15 years old. 

  • 2+ years’ lifeguard experience preferred. 

  • Current American Red Cross Certification Required or ability to obtain upon hire.  

  • Current CPR / First Aid / AED Certification Required or ability to obtain upon hire.  

Work Environment 

This position operates in a professional recreational environment. This role continuously requires the employee to work outside in all weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and wind. Also continuously works with others. 

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights. 

Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work long hours and available for evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
