Retreat Specialist
Position: Retreat Specialist

Pay: $1,200 Stipend for Training Weeks August 17-Sept 4, 2026
$105 per day up to five work days per week (Mon-Sun), then $20/hr
The Outdoor School seeks a Retreat Specialist to join our dynamic team for the Fall 2026 season. The ideal candidate will have experience in outdoor education, scheduling, hospitality and customer service.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Communicating with retreat groups prior to their arrival to ensure smooth Champions Retreat experience.
2. Scheduling activities with retreat groups and assigning the appropriately trained staff to facilitate.
3. Serving as Director on Duty (DOD) on weekend retreats from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. Retreat Specialists will usually have Monday and Tuesday off from work and their work week will be Wednesday to Sunday except during Training Weeks.
4. Leading Orientation and Check-Ins for retreat groups including communicating all safety expectations upon arrival.
5. Working closely with the TOS Retreat Director to manage retreat schedules, staffing, surveys and customer service.
6. Performing other responsibilities related to The Outdoor School and Champions Retreat programs as the program needs dictate. This could include leading a team of children, teaching academic classes, leading night activities and performing any “CDOD” work tasks as assigned.
Essential Functions
1. physical strength to lift, move and carry up to 50 lbs.
2. physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
3. ability to communicate (and follow) safety regulations and emergency procedures
4. ability to provide necessary instruction to students, chaperones and staff
Qualifications

Work Environment
Retreat Specialists are required to live on the Camp Champions property while in-season. Camp Champions is a rural summer camp/retreat property located in Marble Falls, TX.

Staff Appearance:
Tattoos and body piercing are permitted providing they are not profane, offensive or distracting. Staff may be asked to cover tattoos or remove piercings depending on the needs of our guests at any time. We ask that all staff look presentable within the scope of working as an Outdoor Professional. Staff are provided by The Outdoor School with the required staff shirts that must be worn while working. Pants/shorts will be provided by the individual and should be in good condition, free of rips and major stains and be appropriate to the activity level that is required of the job that day. Some activities require closed-toe, closed-heel footwear which are provided by the individual.
Staff Conduct:
The Outdoor School will not tolerate the possession or use of illegal substances at any time. The Outdoor School reserves the right to drug test an individual in their employ. We require that staff members refrain from drinking alcohol if they are working the following day, unless it is their day off, in which case they can drink up until 9pm. Staff under the age of 21 are not permitted to drink on property. Any tobacco, cigarette or e-cigarette products may only be consumed in designated smoking areas during scheduled breaks. Staff may never use these products in front of a guest. Violation of these policies will result in consequences up to and including immediate termination.
Pay and Benefits:
The rate of pay is listed at the beginning of this document. Most meals are provided (approximately 80% of the time). In addition to pay and food, Retreat will receive housing on property. Bedrooms will be shared with one other roommate. Some housing will include a full kitchen and living room shared with housemates while other units will be equipped with a mini fridge and microwave. All towels and bed linens should be brought by the employee and are not provided by The Outdoor School. Insurance benefits are not provided; however, workers compensation is if staff are injured on the job.
Reasonable Assurance:
If eligible for rehire, you will have reasonable assurance of continued employment with The Outdoor School when each school term resumes after a season break. By virtue of this, please understand that you may not be eligible for unemployment benefits drawn on The Outdoor School wages during any scheduled season breaks including, but not limited to, the summer or winter breaks.
Ropes Specialist

Responsibilities Include:
1. Working alongside other Specialists, Program Coordinators, Full-Time Staff and Instructors to deliver a high quality nature-based experiential education program for all of the guests.
2. Assisting with staff training on all high ropes elements including mentoring new instructors to learn all technical and soft skills required to be proficient and effective at facilitation.
3. Facilitating high ropes activities with guests sometimes multiple times per day.
4. Working closely with the TOS Ropes Director to maintain high ropes courses, facilities and equipment to the highest of safety standards.
5. Performing other responsibilities related to The Outdoor School and Champions Retreat programs as the program needs dictate. This will include leading a team of children, teaching academic classes, leading night activities and performing any “CDOD” work tasks as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have experience in outdoor education and/or camp leadership with an interest in nature-based learning and hold a current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Working alongside other Specialists, Program Coordinators, Full-Time Staff and Instructors to deliver a high quality nature-based experiential education program for all of the guests.
2. Assisting with staff training on all pool and waterfront activities including mentoring new instructors to learn all technical and soft skills required to be proficient and effective at facilitation and teaching.
3. Supervising set-ups and tear-downs of program areas as assigned.
4. Facilitating and teaching activities and academic classes with guests multiple times per day, including lifeguarding at both a pool and waterfront on Lake LBJ.
5. Working closely with the TOS Operations Director to maintain pool, waterfront and boating equipment to the highest of safety standards.
6. Performing other responsibilities related to The Outdoor School and Champions Retreat programs as the program needs dictate. This will include leading a team of children, teaching academic classes, leading night activities and performing any “CDOD”work tasks as assigned.

5. Working closely with the TOS Program Director to maintain Reptile Shed and its class materials to the highest of standards.

$90 per day for lifeguards up to five work days per week (Mon-Sun), then $19/hr
$85 per day for non-lifeguards up to five work days per week (Mon-Sun), then $18/hr
The Outdoor School seeks Outdoor Instructors to join our dynamic team for the Fall 2026 season. The ideal candidate will have experience in outdoor education and/or camp leadership with an interest in nature-based learning.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Working alongside other Specialists, Program Coordinators, Full-Time Staff and Instructors to deliver a high quality nature-based experiential education program for all of the guests.
2. Leading teams of up to 15 students ranging in age 4th through 12th grade.
3. Facilitating orientation upon the students’ arrival and then a closure before their departure which will “review, link, extend” their experience while at TOS.
4. Eating assigned meals at the table with a team of students to ensure smooth meals and supervising after-meal clean-up.
5. Facilitating and teaching activities and academic classes with guests multiple times per day.
6. Working outdoors for a majority of the day.
