About the Hungry Moose
Family‑owned and rooted in Big Sky, the Hungry Moose has been feeding locals and visitors since 1994—a true community hub where “meet me at the moose” is a real thing. With two locations (Town Center and near Big Sky Resort), we’re Big Sky’s go‑to for thoughtfully sourced groceries, deli favorites, and grab‑and‑go meals made with care.
This isn’t a job where you disappear into the back of house and never see the impact of your work. Your food fuels ski days, trail days, family dinners, and locals grabbing something real between everything else life throws at them.
The Role: Savory Cook (Central Kitchen)
This is a full‑time, year‑round position (not seasonal or part‑time).
If you’re looking for stability in a mountain town and you take pride in consistency, speed, and food safety, you’ll fit right in.
Reporting to the Central Kitchen Manager, you’ll produce high‑quality savory foods—soups, salads, entrées, and prepared items—using standardized recipes and production schedules. This is structured, production‑focused cooking: the kind of work where doing the fundamentals well, every day, matters.
What You’ll Do

Prepare soups, salads, entrées, and savory grab‑and‑go items from recipes and prep lists
Slice meats/cheeses/veg and safely operate kitchen equipment (including slicers)
Label, date, rotate, and store ingredients and finished goods to standard
Execute special orders accurately and efficiently
Quality, Safety & Cleanliness
Maintain food safety, sanitation, and Health Department compliance
Keep workspaces clean and organized (dishes, trash/compost, etc.)
Complete required Food Handler certification (and alcohol service certification as needed)
Teamwork & Flexibility
Communicate clearly and respectfully with deli + prep teams
Support both locations as needed
Pitch in beyond your station when required (including occasional cashiering)
Perks
35% employee discount at both Hungry Moose locations
Shift meals for eligible shifts
Benefits & Long‑Term Support
Medical/dental/vision options after 60 days
Mental Health Reimbursement Arrangement (M‑HRA)
Paid maternity and paternity leave

401(k) with up to 4% match after one year
Housing & Big Sky Logistics (Read This!)
Big Sky is an incredible place to live and work—and housing is the biggest puzzle for most people. Potential for subsidized employee housing (ask us what’s currently available during the hiring process)
Schedule Expectations (Important)
Must be able to work a full‑time, year‑round schedule
Availability needed for mornings, weekends, and holidays (Big Sky runs on weekends and holidays!)
You’ll Love This If You…
Like structured prep and find satisfaction in doing the basics extremely well
Move with purpose and can stay organized in a fast‑paced production kitchen
Care about consistency, cleanliness, rotation, and food safety
Want a steady role with strong community roots (not a short stop on the way elsewhere)
