About The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon

The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon resembles a sprawling three-story chalet with the perfect blend of rustic and modern design. The Grand Hotel is the only 3-diamond hotel in the region and is located in Tusayan, AZ. Our luxurious hotel offers an indoor heated swimming pool and spa and fitness center.

The hotel is open year-round with a peak season between April and October. Xanterra operates the 121 room hotel, two dining facilities, and a retail shop. The year-round staff consists of approximately 90 employees during peak season. Our employees make countless personal connections and create everlasting memories for themselves and our guests.

Room and Board

We live along the Grand Hotel located at the Grand Canyon at a 7000-foot elevation in the ponderosa pine forest.

Most new employees will reside in employee housing. The meal plan is $9 per day for 3 meals. (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and tickets are also offered for individual meals: breakfast $5.00, lunch $6.00, and dinner $7.00

No pets are allowed in housing.

Grand Canyon and Tusayan have basic services available such as shopping, banking, post office, medical clinic, church services and a community library.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Bikes are encouraged, and it is recommended to bring your vehicle if you have one to travel to Flagstaff or any other “outside” locations as Tusayan/GC is very rural, Shuttle services for this purpose are not widely available. The only public transportation available would be the park/Tusayan Shuttle bus transporting from Tusayan to the park. Initial transportation to the property can be arranged via shuttle.

    Responsibilities

    • Continually focus on providing exceptional guest service as a primary goal, both in how work is conducted and when interacting with guests.
    • Collects payments by accepting cash, checks, or charge payments and makes change for customers.
    • Verifies credit acceptance and operates credit card authorization systems.
    • Balances cash drawer by counting cash at the beginning and end of work shifts by following checkout procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Clean assigned guest accommodations to Company standards (within allocated time period) including making beds, cleaning bathrooms, dusting, amenities, removing dirty linens, cleaning outside guest rooms, in hallways and surrounding grounds.
    • Control all keys, master, and guest room keys, and maintain security of guest rooms, both vacant and occupied.
    • Strictly follow standards in cleaning stay over rooms in dealing with guest’s property.
    • Follow instructions given by the Inspector, Supervisor or Management regarding having to return to the room to correct any discrepancies.

    Qualifications

    • Knowledge of rooms and hotel layout of The Grand Hotel property, including general knowledge of available services with the ability to convey information to the guests.

    Physical Requirements include:

    • Constantly listening, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, using eye/hand coordination, handling, reaching outward and using wrist motion.

    Responsibilities

    • Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.
    • Continually focus on providing exceptional guest service as a primary goal, both in how work is conducted and when interacting with guests.
    • Responsible for general cleaning and light maintenance within company housing and hotel. This includes indoor activities including but not limited to, mopping, sweeping, housing room cleaning for the next occupant. As well as cleaning restrooms, lobbies, entryways, walkways, and hallways, within the hotel.
    • Responsible for outdoor custodial duties such as snow and ice removal from sidewalks and or walkways, mowing lawns, weeding flower beds, and clearing grasses to ensure a clean and healthy environment. Deliver supplies and materials to various locations and departments within the company.
    • Complete room deliveries of items as requested by the front desk, as well as requests from housekeeping.
    • Communicate status of requests with the front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance manager throughout shift, and when called on the radio for assistance.
    • Perform basic record keeping duties and perform basic equipment data collection and recording functions.
    • Receive training in basic equipment repair, such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC maintenance, mechanical, painting etc. This includes plunging toilets, changing light bulbs, changing air filters, smoke detector checks and battery replacements, etc.

    Responsibilities

    • Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values.

    • Under direction of Kitchen Manager and/or Assistant Kitchen Manager, work closely with the Steward to continually train in all aspects of the kitchen.
    • Apply thorough knowledge of food preparation, including organization of daily menu production with the focus of maintaining food quality, spec consistency and buffet/plate presentation.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
    • Two (2) years previous supervisory or lead cook experience in a high volume ala carte dining or institutional establishment with progressive cooking/menu development with the ability to train employees in all kitchen positions; with a goal of advancing staff within the kitchen.
    • Prior experience with food production records, scheduling employees and inventory/cost controls.

    Physical Requirements include:
