We like to hire individuals that love the outdoors as much as we do. If you love the outdoors you will be in like company at NOC. Our Jobs

NOC hires seasonally for the vast majority of our positions. We hire for our extended season which is considered April-October and also for our peak season May-August.

Aerial Guide

NOC Aerial Guides work on three different Aerial adventure activities: the Zip Line Adventure Park, Mountaintop Zip Line Tour, and Alpine Tower; our guides are cross-trained to work on all three activities. Aerial Operations Manager

Nantahala Outdoor Center, Bryson City

The Aerial Operations Manager, reports to the General Manager (GM) of Nantahala Adventures and is responsible for being a leader both on and off our courses and an ambassador of the NOC to employees, our partners, competitors and the general public. The Aerial Operations Manager is expected to provide positive guest interactions/experiences and to take all precautions and handle trainings to keep our guest and guides prepared for all situations on our various aerial products. This position must also be a key communicator and handle administrative/logistic duties for the aerial operation including: planning, accounting, logistics, budgeting, staff management, hiring, culture, training and many other functions described in detail below.

The Aerial Operations Manager position is classified as “9/12” in which the Manager works full-time for ten months of the year yet receives a paycheck across all twelve months of the year.  While the position is full-time during the ten working months, the work schedule fluctuates with many weeks exceeding 40 hours and some weeks falling short of 40 hours.

Assistant Kitchen Manager - River's End

Nantahala Outdoor Center, Bryson City

The Assistant Kitchen Manager is a full-time position and reports to the Kitchen Manager. In this role, you will be expected to exemplify NOC's core values in your daily work and be a leader in the kitchen. You will work primarily out of our River's End restaurant, and if needed will provide support to our other two restaurants on-site. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in overseeing product quality in designated restaurants
  • Help hire and train kitchen staff
  • Help oversee purchases
  • Assist in scheduling for back of house, and help report on schedule compliance
  • Coach and guide all members of the team, putting in place proper orientation training and ongoing training and development
  • Provide input to Kitchen Manager on performance for staff reviews
  • Help develop new items and menus to meet the requirements of our guests
  • Manage preparation and presentation of food products to ensure quality at all times
  • Manage BOH flow control for designated restaurants
  • Implement procedures to minimize waste and over-production
  • Collect information to help evaluate, review and control food costs
  • Assist with inventory counts
  • Help direct and coordinate all daily activities of kitchens
  • Assist in recruitment and interviewing of new staff members
  • Manage relationships with suppliers
  • Monitor proper levels of food are supplied to designated locations
  • Maintain highest standards of food hygiene and adherence with all health and safety standards
  • Report and take appropriate action to correct any health or safety hazard or concern
  • Ensure proper storage of food items, maintain proper organization of food storage areas and product rotation utilizing, but not limited to, labeling with production and receiving dates
  • Attend food service meetings to ensure good communication when necessary
  • Maintain and report all equipment problems to Manager
  • Take a leadership role that supports the management team
  • Other duties as assigned

Repair and Maintenance

Assistant Manger, Facilities and Grounds

Nantahala Outdoor Center, Bryson City

The Assistant Manager of Facilities and Grounds reports directly to the Facilities and Grounds Manager. In this position, you will work with a team to make sure that NOC facilities and grounds are maintained and meet the needs of the user at all campus operations and staff housing properties.  Being a service department, a positive attitude to guests, contract service providers and staff is important to remaining good rapport and service.        

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain, upkeep and clean all construction and groundskeeping equipment. 
  • Perform weekly grounds maintenance for all NOC properties.
  • Responsible for vehicles and equipment as designated. 
  • Assist with projects as outlined by department head. 
  • Inform supervisor of any concerns or issues with facilities, grounds, equipment or vehicles. 
  • Support Facilities and Grounds Department as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Skill set to include; electric, plumbing, construction and carpentry
  • Working knowledge of recycling products
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • HVAC experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of tools and procedures related to all maintenance and construction trade
  • Available for 'on-call' to include weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities to accomplish the desired outcome, to include guest, staff and subcontractors
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist and frequently lift large and heavy items

Lake Guide

Nantahala Outdoor Center, Bryson City

Spend the summer working on and enjoying beautiful Lake Fontana. Lake Fontana is a short walk from NOC's main campus and allows our guests and Guides a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of our main campus. Our guest and Guides alike, will enjoy the tranquility of the lake and also the opportunity to spot and watch wildlife including bald eagles, fish and turtles. Due to the nature of this position, there are periods of down time where we encourage our Guides to hop on a paddleboard or kayak or relax in their hammock while remaining attuned to any guests needs.

Lake Program - Head Guide

The Nantahala is one of our most unique locations providing outdoor recreation to thousands of guests per year. The Head Guides must live up to the high standards set during the company’s 40+ year history. Our Head Guides are pivotal leaders within the company, directing most operational functions of our lake program while holding all Guides accountable to the NOC Core Values, and thus allowing NOC to provide once in a lifetime experiences to each guest. The Head Guide must have a unique skill set to both instruct hard skills and handle a wide variety of logistics undertaken by the position. The opportunity to continue to spend time on the water while also serving in a key leadership position makes this position highly desirable. The Head Guide role is logistically heavy and requires a multifaceted skill set. The Head Guide must set the standard for behavior becoming an NOC Guide and develop this behavior in the staff. A Lake Head Guide is further responsible for Training, Mentorship, Communication and Administrative/Logistical duties for our lake programs including custom programs such as Build-A-Raft. Outpost Cook - Chattooga River

We are looking for a Cook to join our team who is excited about providing our Outpost Staff with plenty of high quality food so they can fuel their bodies for peak performance. Photographer/Photo Sales Associate

Join the NOC team as a Photographer/Photo Sales Associate for the 2018 Summer Season!! As a photographer at NOC, the river banks will become your office as you photograph NOC raft trips and private boaters as they run Nantahala Falls rapid on the Nantahala River. Photographers will not only capture the photos but also help to sell their shots to our guest in Photo Finish.

Applicants for a photos position at NOC should have great communication skills, a strong sense of guest service, and be enthusiastic about sharing outdoor activities with others. Applicants should enjoy working in a team setting, take direction well, and be able to work independently. Prior experience with customer service and/or sales is ideal, but not required.

Reservationist

At the Nantahala Outdoor Center, our Reservationists are the first line of communication to our guests! They help guide the guest through the many outdoor adventures we offer.  As a Reservationist, you enjoy the best combination of access to outdoor fun and the ability to earn more money based on your experience with our activities.  We encourage our Reservationists to experience all of our activities through paid continuing education. This allows our Reservationists to experience, first-hand, the trips that they will be helping our guests book. 

Responsibilities

  • Developing rapport with guests to help each reserve the best possible NOC itinerary to meet their needs, including day activities, clinics, instruction and lodging
  • Providing knowledge to enhance the guest experience, including sharing information about NOC experiences: driving directions, what to bring, shopping, dining, and lodging options, NOC events, activities, and entertainment
  • Understanding the particulars of the varying activities and departments to best respond to guests’ questions and redirect calls as necessary Other Reservations office tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

Applicants should have great communication skills, a strong sense of guest service and enthusiasm for sharing outdoor activities with others. To ensure complete product knowledge and ability to direct guests to their perfect vacation activity, applicants should be interested in learning about all facets of NOC offerings.
