  • Sommelier

    Salmon & Bear Restaurant
    $2,000.00 / month + tips

The Salmon & Bear, part of the McCarthy Lodge, is hiring a wine Sommelier for summer 2022 and beyond. Wine & Food is your specialty, ours too.

Chef Josh Slaughter is seeking a wine professional for our restaurant. A summer of adventure for sure, and a joyful, casual dining room is yours to command. There's a unique al fresco experience on the deck where wilderness and an authentic sense of place make for very happy guests.

It all starts with Happy Professionals. Our service is notable in providing a sublime dining atmosphere exploring new Alaskan cuisine, paired with our Wine Spectator ‘Award Of Excellence’ (2020 & 2021) wine list.

Duties include managing the 150 label Award-winning wine list and cellar.

The last two seasons, our organization created a joyful and safe experience in the wilderness, in spite of the pandemic and the occasional wild animal. Before opening, we foresaw the need to move forward, quickly, with our outdoor deck expansion plans. With a dramatically larger deck, we were able to accommodate our customers in an outdoor setting, with canopies and heaters. We also cleared a field adjacent to our new deck. In that area, we added some additional seating, also under a canopy, and at the far end established a semi-enclosed bandstand. With this, we were able to bring in bands and other entertainment by mid-season and re-establish some sense of normality.

We provide a healthy work environment: Subsidized & some ‘No Cost’ Housing available, Free Meal Program, Fantastic Tips. A world-class setting worthy of a few moments of your time to research. 2022 is the year of remote locations; many folks are ready to splurge a bit. If you are a professional sommelier looking for a new experience that melds your love of wine with your spirit for adventure, check out McCarthy Alaska and send us your resume!

Our season runs from May 10th through to September 20th each year.

This position offers an excellent salary, benefits, and tips.
