We are a respectful group of wilderness seekers. We love the history of the town because it creates awareness of both continuity in community and man's struggle to keep wild places wild. We've 'tamed' a bit of the wilderness in McCarthy, but the wild is all around us.
The few of us folks who live here own and operate businesses for visitors - and we all want YOU to experience the same adventures guests will have. To do that, the activities around us will be made available to you for free (or minimal cost to cover fuel) when there is space available. Rafting, Flightseeing, Ice Climbing and so much more...

The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, is self-motivated, is experienced in hospitality, and loves people! We work as a team and aim to provide our guests a memorable visit. Our international clientele in a wilderness National Park enjoy an authentic Alaskan experience. Our resort in McCarthy boasts an inventive kitchen, award-winning services, and an outdoors-loving crew. Seasonal, May 10th to September 20th; and Alaska-level pay, including room and board allowance (subsidized shared housing, $3/day; 2 staff per room). There is a limited number of single rooms available ($6/day) for leadership positions. We also offer a limited number of free tents.

We’re looking for individuals who have a positive outlook and genuinely enjoy being around people, can work at a fast pace, and who can manage multiple tasks at once. The ideal candidate will have previous customer service experience and will have clear understanding of what drives guest satisfaction.
- Full time positions. Must be able to work 40 to 45 hours per week, with overtime if needed.
- Salaried positions are for 45 hours per week. Hourly positions are for 32 to 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to pass background check (no arrests or convictions)
- High School Diploma or GED.
We provide low cost shared housing; Fully stocked employee kitchen, and transportation to/from Anchorage to our remote lodge (inside America's largest National Park).
Your season is May 10th through September 20th. In addition, there are opportunities to participate in outdoor activities such as flightseeing, ice climbing, rafting, and more at reduced rates or free. Many of our local tour operators want you to experience their adventures so you will have first hand knowledge when asked by guests about activities. Pay is bi-monthly.
Room and Board
We provide subsidized housing and some meal allowances. Other staff amenities included: free laundry facilities and a communal employee kitchen. You will also find a grocery store, a bar, and several other restaurants in or near McCarthy.
Meals: We provide a Staff Kitchen and most of the staples to cook your own meals. Although most of the food costs are subsidized or free, you should anticipate spending a little bit to supplement your dietary issues or individual tastes. This would allow for your own control over your dietary day-to-day needs. You can expect to see the following items supplied at no cost:
Milk, cheese, bread, condiments, cereal, eggs, lunch meats, produce (veggies and fruits), canned goods, dinner entrée proteins such as chicken, pork, beef, fish; dinner starches such as potatoes, rice or pasta. These items are readily available to our staff at no cost. Since everyone is also expected to pitch in for their own likes and needs, everyone is able to maintain their happiness! You will find some of your peers more adept at not using their own funds for food. For instance, staff with allergens and other dietary concerns may use more of their own supplemental foods than staff with no food aversions.. Dietary restrictions are subject to difficult logistics - Please consider your dietary restrictions and the practicality of our remote location.
Everyone is responsible for participating by cooking for themselves and cleaning up after themselves. Many of the staff participate with each other's meal planning in various ways. Individuals are free to do whatever they like as long as it does not interrupt the staff housing (simple: keep the common areas of the employee house clean).
Housing: Shared housing (2 people per room) is $3 per day. A limited number of Single Occupancy rooms are available for $6 per day. We have limited "wall tents" for staff who prefer tent city life, and avoid a housing fee. All housing options include showers. laundry, kitchen use, fuels, etc.
Transportation: We will provide transportation to and from Anchorage & McCarthy. You are responsible for getting to and from Anchorage to your home state.
When you're not working, you're playing! You will enjoy adventure opportunities most people only dream of, such as glacier hikes, flightseeing, rafting, and other activities at little or no cost. We strive to give you two days off a week to enjoy all the wonders of the area. We value happy employees.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Anchorage to McCarthy round trip ground transportation is provided at no charge by our shuttle van on certain dates. Mail arrives by plane Mondays and Thursdays. if you still need something from afar, "The Amazon Express" makes weekly deliveries.

Bands come play from Anchorage and the "lower 48" - rocking the town of McCarthy on Friday & Saturday nights at the Golden Saloon.
Thursday night is open mic night, bring your instrument, your talent, and ham it up!
