The Island Inn is a well established seasonal hotel and restaurant located 11 miles off the shore of Mid Coast Maine on beautiful Monhegan Island-an unspoiled nature lover's paradise of woods, cliffs, and rocky shores, and a small community of fishermen and artists.

Most of the island is preserved as a conservation area with miles of hiking trails around stunning cliffs and rocky coves.

About Island Inn

The Island Inn has 32 guest rooms, artist residency and operates an in-house restaurant and a coffee house. Established with the objectives of providing a unique take on coastal cuisine paired with a magical setting, our 60+ seat fine dining restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner to hotel guests and the public. We passionately utilize the bounty of the coastal terrain, as well as cultivate our own gardens and greenhouse with a variety of organic and heirloom produce.

Room and Board

Island Inn supplies free, clean on-site housing for all seasonal staff. All the accommodations are dorm style with single and double rooms. Room type selection is based on seniority. Three home-style meals a day are included at no charge. Shared refrigerator, laundry, and WIFI/Streaming Video are also provided. The staff's quality-of-life while working on the Island is very important to us.

Spending a summer on Monhegan is a memorable experience. Many of our staff are returnees - outdoor enthusiasts, artists and world travelers. You can enjoy the safe and beautiful natural environment of the island while gaining valuable skills. It's been said that there's nothing to do on Monhegan, but that there's never enough time in a day to do it...

Our Jobs

We employ about 30 individuals throughout the summer, filling a variety of positions. Our season runs from May 25th through October 8th. It is very important that each employee is available to work the entire season.



Monhegan Island

This is a full time position averaging 40 hours a week.



Monhegan Island

It's a part time housekeeping and part time kitchen prep and dishwashing position averaging 40hrs a week. 


Kitchen Prep/Line Cook

Monhegan Island

This position is responsible for all aspects of food preparation up to and including final presentation for delivery to guests. Responsibilities will include food preparation tasks as assigned by the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, including food preparation, stocks and other basic tasks, as well as protein fabrication, soup and sauce making and other techniques. Will clean work area and kitchen during and at the end of shift; assist with receiving deliveries to the kitchen. Must be able to take direction and follow recipes. Will work in a supervised environment.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

Required Experience: 

  • Minimum 4 years culinary training and experience;(or) equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of food preparation and fine dining cooking
  • Must be able to perform in a fast-paced kitchen environment
