Goldbelt Tram Alaska is looking for a number of year-round and many seasonal positions.  Year-round positions can start as early as October/November.  Seasonal positions are typically from April-September.  We are currently looking to fill roles for our 2022 season.

  • General Manager

    Juneau

    SUMMARY

    Maximizes the long-term profitability of Goldbelt Aerial Tramway (GAT).  Provides general management of the Tram operations, including all Tramway professional and technical staff.  Identifies and develops plans of action, including long-range marketing and business plans.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Manages the operation and administration of Goldbelt’s wholly owned subsidiary, Goldbelt Aerial Tramway, in line with policies, long range plans, and strategies.  Establishes operating plans, budgets, and programs to meet business objectives.
    • Provides executive direction to the organization and its staff in achievement of profit and growth objectives set by the Corporate President/CEO, Corporate VP of Alaska Group.
    • Administers all aspects of company operations directly, including development of corporate procedures related to personnel management, property management, financial performance, and business expansion.  Monitors performance against business plans and reports progress to the Corporate Senior Management team.
    • Represents the subsidiary corporation to the general public.  Coordinates Tram interests with City and Borough regulations, state environmental regulations, contractors, property owners, tenants, state park entities, and trail and conservation organizations.
    • Manages the operation, through the Director of Sales & Service, to ensure the provision of high-quality food and beverage, entertainment, and other services provided at Tramway venues.
    • Provides regular sales and operations reports to his/her supervisor.
    • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

     

    NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the tourism industry, related markets and opportunities, and methods of organizing and managing tourism businesses.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact with shareholders, peers, management, and the general public.
    • Ability to establish and manage high work standards by managing a variety of tasks, handle pressure and conflicting priorities; lead, manage, and motivate seasonal and year-round staff.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Hospitality Management, or closely related discipline.
    • Ten (10) years of combined mid- and senior-level managerial, operational, and planning experience (senior level experience must include P&L responsibility and demonstrated competence with strategic planning, budgeting, financial and accounting systems, and HR management).
    • Prior experience with aerial ropeways, food and beverage, entertainment services management and mountain safety programs.
    • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to successfully pass a background check. OR
    • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.

  • Tram Maintenance Technician

    Juneau

    SUMMARY:

    Performs (at the semi-skilled level) preventative maintenance and repairs to the aerial tramway and lift. Shall practice good housekeeping, emphasizing avoiding the development of any condition that might contribute to personal injury. Shall comply with the operational rules and regulations of the Goldbelt Tram Alaska.

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Using tools designed per the manufacturers' specifications performs preventative maintenance and repairs to the tramway's mechanical components or electrical systems in accordance with ANSI codes; continually expands the scope of skills while learning from the Tram Maintenance Supervisor;
    • Ensures that a signed complete log is maintained wherein the actual execution of work shall be recorded. The register shall state the components serviced and the condition of the components. A record shall be kept of replacement components;
    • Assists in expediting materials needed to do preventative maintenance and repairs;
    • Familiarizes self with lift, maintenance, and operational procedures; learns and follows proper safety procedures at all times when performing maintenance work; uses proper safety equipment (i.e., harnesses, when climbing towers or riding on top of tram cars); applies or uses lock-out procedures to prevent unexpected start-up and damage to equipment and systems;
    • Ensures that his/her training is kept current with common industry techniques and practices in emergency rope evacuation, emergency care evacuation, emergency drive operation, standby drive operation, top terminal generator operation, bottom terminal generator operation, and rescue winch operation. Provides, or assists with the provision of, training of same to designated employees with the subsequent recording of activity; keeps current on proper emergency procedures to be followed and critical employees to contact as the emergency response team;
    • May work on special facility projects as needed;
    • Authorized to discontinue operations of the aerial tramway due to physical, adverse weather, personnel, or other reasons;
    • To deny access to the aerial tramway to any person; using procedures and criteria provided;
    • To oversee operational procedures and adherence to applicable regulations pertaining to the aerial tramway;
    • When necessary due to personnel understaffing, unexpected absences, or emergencies, may perform the duties of a Tram Operator or Tram Attendant; on-call during the regular Tram operating season and will assist the Director of Maintenance and Operations when needed;
    • Assumes responsibilities of Tram Maintenance Supervisor during his/her absences;
    • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

     

    NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

    • Ability to physically climb out of the tramway cabin under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations and/or Tram Maintenance Supervisor.
    • Ability to physically rope evacuate passengers and self from the cabin.
    • Ability to read and interpret tramway and lift blueprints, manuals, and warranty requirements
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to learn, understand, and follow verbal and manual instructions; work independently and as a self-starter.
    • General knowledge of mechanics, electrical controls, hydraulics, wire-ropes, and preventative maintenance procedures of aerial lifts or tramways.
    • Skill in the operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.
    • Working knowledge/familiarity with tram operations systems.
    • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
    • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance daily.
    • Ability/willingness to learn and pass on to passengers those areas of interest to visitors, such as local history, people, culture, geography, etc.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent, AND
    • Five (5) years of semi-skilled work or advanced apprenticeship level experience in the electrical or mechanical field of work, performing general repairs and ongoing maintenance.
    • Current CPR/AED and first aid certificates; drug testing may be required, or the ability to obtain as soon as training is available.
    • Current Rope Access and Fall Protection certificate or ability to obtain as soon as training is available.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Prior tram maintenance experience.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Aerial tramway, lift, and terminal environment (2000 ft. elevation); extreme heights and dangerous overhead work areas exposed to inclement weather conditions; extremely dangerous electrical and/or mechanical conditions and equipment.
    • Routine movement in/out of an aerial tramway cabin as part of an aerial tramway and lift operation at a 2000 ft. elevation; constant public interaction and communication; constant exposure to extreme heights; periodic exposure to dangerous equipment during emergency evacuations or power failures. 
    • During emergency evacuations or equipment failure, expected to assist management. Must be able to hike trails to assist management in various emergencies (e.g., medical, missing persons, etc.) Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. of different tram equipment/supplies. The Tram is a non-smoking facility with designated outside smoking areas.

  • Tram Electrical Technician

    Juneau

    Summary

    Under the direction of the Tram Maintenance Supervisor and in coordination with the Tram Maintenance/Operations Manager of the Goldbelt Tram Alaska, this position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and scheduling of all electrical and electronic needs related to the operation of the tramway.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Maintains all electrical equipment associated with the operation, maintenance, and repair of the tram, facilities, and utilities.
    • Develops and oversees the subsequent implementation of long-term electrical maintenance.
    • Works in coordination with tram maintenance and operations departments to address electrical maintenance, repair, or any other electrical needs.
    • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all electronics, PLC’s, electrical components.
    • Oversees all maintenance and electronics problems to the extent of their knowledge and coordinates additional needs with the Tram maintenance supervisor, Tram manager.
    • Assists all other Tram departments in any way possible with their electrical, mechanical, and technical skills.
    • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

    Necessary Skills & Knowledge

    • Install, maintain and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems 12/24VDC and 120/277/480VAC.
    • Read technical diagrams and blueprints.
    • Perform general electrical maintenance.
    • Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components.
    • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate of testing devices.
    • Repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.
    • Follow National Electrical Code state and local building regulations.
    • Good knowledge of various test equipment.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve, electrical operating problems related to the tram’s equipment.
    • Ability to prioritize and balance electrical needs and schedules with available staff and resources.
    • Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Current CPR and first aid certificates
    • Drug testing may be required
    • Formal training in electronics or electrical from a technical school, the military, other Aerial Tramway, through completion of an Associates Degree in Electronic Technology
    • Three to five years’ experience working with electrical systems.  Experience needs to include electrical work applied to the operation, maintenance, and repair of capital equipment and structures, including electrical controls and typical facility electrical equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Three (3) years of electronics, electrical experience related to aerial lifts or tramway’s including mechanical skills applied to the operation, maintenance and repair of capital equipment and structures.

  • Tram Maintenance Supervisor

    Title: Tram Maintenance Supervisor

    Reports to (Supervises/Liaison): Tram & Facilities Manager (Tram Maintenance Technicians) 

     

    SUMMARY 

     

    The Tram Maintenance supervisor is responsible for of all phases of tramway maintenance activity and the performance of journeyman level electrical and/or mechanical work.  

    Oversees practices that determine the aerial tramway is operational, and that all aerial tramway maintenance personnel are trained, equipped, and capable of performing their duties for public operation. Constantly monitoring factors affecting the safe and efficient operation of tramway cars and the control center.    

     

    JOB DUTIES 

    • Responsible for ensuring that all required maintenance and repair work is performed by staff and/or contractors in accordance with state and local operational codes, ANSI B-77 code and manufacturer’s specifications.  

    • Performs journey level electrical and/or mechanical work which includes troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing or rebuilding mechanical components or electrical systems; uses and supervises the use of tools per manufacturers’ instructions and specifications. 

    • Supervises the maintenance and repair work performed by maintenance personnel and contractors, after troubleshooting and determining exactly what corrective work, methods, resources are needed. 

    • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program and schedule for all tramway structures and systems; expedites all materials needed to do preventative maintenance or repairs. 

    • Provides training for maintenance staff in standby operations, generator operations and rescue car lift evacuations; participates in emergency lift evacuation upon notification by the General Manager.  

    • Ensures that safety measures and equipment (i.e. harnesses, helmet, etc.) are taken/used at all times, especially when staff climb towers or ride on top of tram cars.  

    • Ensures that subordinates are trained (including in emergency rope evacuation), equipped and fit to perform their duties.   

    • Ensures that maintenance staff are available at all times during public operation of the tramway.  

    • Makes staff assignments; schedules staff work, taking into consideration ongoing operational needs, availability of staff, equipment, parts, etc.; checks quality of work performed, all while guiding (and sometimes training) work crew to project completion. 

    • Takes a lead role during absence of the Tram & Facilities Manager.  

    • Constantly emphasizes the importance of customer service; monitors staff’s provision of the same, correcting weaknesses or problems.  Must insure that all time cards or pay sheets are reviewed, signed, and submitted in a timely manner. 

    • Periodically reviews the operator’s manual with each new and returning employee; records all training per the ANSI code.  During operating hours, ensures the availability of at least one trained employee onsite to administer first aid. 

    • Performs basic trouble shooting of tram systems and able to record/log faults and bypasses per ANSI code.  

    • When necessary due to personnel understaffing, unexpected absences, or emergencies, may perform the duties of a Tram Operator or Tram Attendant; on call during the regular tram operating season and will assist the General Manager when needed. 

    • Enforces operational and safety rules; always keeps General Manager and Tram & Facilities Manager informed regarding a condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation; monitors that all signs in the ramp area, safety equipment and rope evacuation equipment are in place. 

    • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. 

     

    NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE 

     

    • Extensive knowledge of the operation of aerial lift or tramway facilities, terminals and related equipment;  

    • Knowledge of common industry practices and considerations;  

    • Knowledge of maintenance and repair requirements; and applicable building, ANSI, OSHA and health codes. 

    • Ability to troubleshoot, disassemble, repair or rebuild systems and components of the facility and related equipment. 

    • Experience using welders and torches for fabrication and repair of mild steel and aluminum components. 

    • Ability to make work assignments, check the completed work, and guide/train a maintenance crew in normal operating and crisis situations. 

    • Ability to function in a stressful environment.  

    • Ability to balance and prioritize operating needs and schedules with available time and skills of maintenance crew to get the job done efficiently and effectively. 

    • Ability to develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program/schedule and employee safety and emergency evacuation training program.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills) 

    • Two (2) years of experience working at an aerial tramway and /or ski lift operation that includes One (1) year of maintenance working with electrical controls, hydraulics and wire-rope. May substitute (1) year tram related experience for an Associate degree or Certificate in Advanced Diesel Technology and (2) years on the job experience  in the repair and maintenance of heavy machinery.  

    • One (1) year Lead/supervisory experience, including scheduling and training subordinates in any environment. 

    • Current CPR/AED and first aid certificates.    

    • Current Rope access and/or Fall Protection certificate or achieve certification within 6 months after acceptance of job offer. 

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills) 

    • Five (5) years of experience in aerial tramway and/or ski lifts, gondola operations to include two (2) years’ work with electrical controls, hydraulics and wire rope.  

    • Three (3) years lead/supervisory maintenance experience, including scheduling and training subordinates in any environment.

  • Food and Beverage Manager

    Reports to (Supervises/Liaison): General Manager, Director of Sales & Service; supervises all food & beverage staff

     

    SUMMARY

    Coordinates all restaurant, bar, snack bar, Espresso stands and catering operations including dining room service, setup and service of catering events, and catering sales. Ensuring budget and profit goals are met while ensuring guest satisfaction, a high level of customer service and restaurant operations that complement the overall tramway experience.

     

    JOB DUTIES

    · Manage and direct the Tramway’s restaurant and food and beverage operations and services, striving to meet the establishment’s objectives of profitability, professional, efficient and top-quality service.

    · Supervise, train, schedule, counsel, evaluate and discipline all Kitchen, wait, bar and catering staff; develop, provide or arrange for training of new and current employees in all aspects of food and beverage service; assist with approval of payroll for subordinate staff.

    · Coordinate and direct catering functions including setup, scheduling, event execution and clean up. Ensures that signed banquet bills are received and posted on the day of the event, and that all controlled tips information is prepared and disseminated in accordance with Goldbelt accounting guidelines.

    · Manage the required budget specified in the Tramway’s annual budget and business plan; ensures the accuracy of host/cashier’s daily revenue reports and deposits. Assists with purchasing and inventories.

    · Ensures that the presentation of all food and beverage items meet established standards. Communicates any variations in presentation, quality of food or timeliness to the General Manager and F&B Supervisors.

    · Maintains appropriate inventory of all banquet supplies including linens, props, uniforms and equipment.

    · Perform any food and beverage duties as necessary and required during absences and emergencies of subordinates, and during peak operating hours.

    · Must be Proficient in the operation of point of sales systems, computers, standard kitchen and bar equipment, and standard office equipment.

    · In collaboration with the General Manager and Director of Sales & Service discusses and determines menu design and planning, including food costing. Conducts weekly and monthly Inventories; determines purchasing needs of produce, supplies and food products. Investigates food supply sources; negotiates prices related to purchases and completes related paperwork; verifies receipt of food products and supplies; manages to budget.

    · Assigns work to kitchen staff; constantly monitors the cooks’ preparation and cooking techniques and practices, checking the quality, quantity and appearance of the menu items before they are “pushed out” of the kitchen; assists in scheduling staff during assigned shift and on a weekly basis; provides ongoing training and guidance to subordinates; trains and evaluates cooks and dishwashers, ensuring compliance with quality standards, efficiency and adequate staff coverage for all shifts; leads by doing; constantly practices and encourages proper hygiene and sanitary habits.

    · Thorough knowledge of the practices and techniques of restaurant cooking, food presentation and storage, including seafood handling; all kitchen equipment and appliances; and sanitary food requirements/codes.

    · Ensures that all staff and patrons follow state law regarding alcoholic beverage service.

    · Thorough knowledge of state sanitary regulations and requirements, state liquor laws (Alaska Alcohol Beverage Control Board) as well as standard practices and procedures related to food preparation and storage.

    · Ability to immediately identify operational and service problems and initiate resolutions, and handle all complaints quickly and efficiently, in the guests’ best interests; to plan and organize effectively; to interpret financial data; control costs, inventories and payroll; make accurate projections; and attain budget.

    · Ability to work long, flexible hours, the night shift, and possibly a six or seven-day workweek, if necessary.

    · Ability to work directly with the public, providing information, and assistance on a daily basis.

    · Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

     

    NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    · Working knowledge of Point of Sales Systems, cash collection, bookkeeping procedures, labor laws, union contract language, liquor laws, purchasing requirements; customer and product forecasting.

    · Excellent customer service/guest relations, communications and interpersonal skills.

    · Ability to supervise and motivate subordinate staff; to lead by example, including the ability to adequately train staff with little or no prior experience; to handle disciplinary and stressful situations in an effective manner.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

    · High school diploma or equivalent.

    · Three (3) years Food and Beverage (F&B) service management within the past four (4) years.

    · Ability to obtain a ServSafe Manager (SSMC) certification.

    · Ability to obtain an Alaska Techniques in Alcohol Management (TAMS) card.

    · Ability to successfully pass a background check

    · Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

    · Five (5) years F&B service management experience.

    · Two (2) years supervisory experience; drug testing may be required.

    · Culinary training from an accredited Culinary Institute.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Standard restaurant, kitchen and bar environment as part of an aerial tramway and lift operation at a 1800 ft. elevation; constant movement in narrow/confined work spaces and a hot, noisy environment; prolonged standing for extended periods of time; physical strength to periodically move up to 80 lbs. The Tram is a non-smoking facility with designated outside-smoking areas.
