  • Bell Attendant

    Big Meadows - Shenandoah National Park
    $12.15 / hour

    The Opportunity 

    Delaware North Parks and Resorts is searching for a seasonal Bell Attendant to join our team at Big Meadows Lodge in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. The Bell Attendant is responsible for many important aspects of guest services, including bell, door, valet, and guest transport for hotel operations.

    Responsibilities 

    • Greet and assist guests with luggage at check-in, check-out, and storage and escort them to their room.
    • Assist guests with city information and directions.
    • Transfer luggage, trunks, and packages to and from rooms, loading areas, vehicles, or transportation terminals, by hand or using baggage carts.
    • Explain the operation of room features, such as locks, ventilation systems, and televisions.
    • Pick up and return items for laundry and valet service.
    • Park and retrieve guest's vehicles.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Prior hotel experience is desired but not essential.
    • Must have excellent verbal communication skills demonstrating proper manners and etiquette.
    • Requires excellent people skills.
    • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
    • Must have a valid driver's license in good standing.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Must have the physical stamina to lift moderate amounts of weight.

    Responsibilities 

    • Follow supervisor's assignments for opening and closing procedures, as well as food production.
    • Prepare food and beverage products for customers by following recipe guidelines, using proper preparation techniques, and sanitation guidelines.
    • Set up and operation of kitchen equipment.
    • Clean equipment properly according to correct procedures.
    • Keep workstation clean, organized, sanitized, and sufficiently stocked.
    • Work cooperatively with co-workers and management.

    Qualifications 

    • Attentive and detailed oriented.
    • Ability to read and understand recipes and food abbreviations.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of attention to detail.
    • Ability to follow procedures and take directions; work as a team player.
    • Basic math skills, with the ability to calculate and follow recipe measurements and proportions.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Able to stand for long periods of time including bending, lifting, reaching, and stretching.
    • Able to lift 30 lbs or more.
    • Ability to move rapidly and coordinate multiple orders.
    • Exposed to variable temperatures.

    • Provide excellent customer service.
    • Greet and register guests via a centralized registration system.
    • Coordinate with housekeeping department as needed.
    • Handle cash and credit card transactions; maintain accurate paperwork as it relates to front office operations.
    • Resolve small issues as they arrive for guest.
    • Check and balance the daily figures, post room and tax charges on guest accounts.
    • Deliver items to guests as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications 

    • Previous customer service experience preferred.
    • Good interpersonal communication skills in person and by phone.
    • Must be able to multitask, function in a professional manner under pressure from guests and supervisors.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to walk, bend, twist, crouch, push, pull and climb stairs throughout shift.

    • Limited to no experience required; previous commercial cleaning or guest service experience preferred.
    • Working knowledge of various cleaning utensils, dryers, vacuum cleaners, tools and fixtures.
    • Ability to work quickly under pressure.
    • Ability to follow direction and instructions.
    • Ability to make simple addition and subtraction calculations.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Frequent walking and standing for the entire length of the shift.
    • Frequent climbing of stairs.
    • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and carrying.
    • Use of hands to operate cleaning equipment and complete scrubbing/washing duties. 
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
    • Visual acuity is sufficient to inspect the cleanliness of rooms and surfaces. 
    • Working conditions include being regularly exposed to fumes and toxic or caustic chemicals. 
    • Occasionally works in outside weather conditions, and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

    • Properly measures and portions all food items. Complies with all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies and procedures.
    • Cooks all food to proper specifications in a timely manner.
    • Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food items such as: knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, ovens, etc.
    • Ensures proper food temperatures are maintained and food is stored correctly.
    • Ensures freshness and quality of all menu items.
    • Packages all products to proper specifications.
    • Performs opening, closing and side work duties as instructed and according proper guidelines.
    • Keeps workstation, coolers and equipment clean, organized, sanitized, and sufficiently stocked.
    • Follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations.

    Qualifications 

    • At least one years' experience as a Prep Cook or Line Cook.
    • Ability to read and understand recipes and food abbreviations.
    • Ability to move rapidly and coordinate multiple orders.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Attentive and detailed oriented.
    • Capable of following procedures and taking directions.
    • Basic math skills; ability to understand, calculate and follow recipe measurements and proportions.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Manual dexterity sufficient to chop, mix, blend, whip etc. a variety of foods and liquids.
    • Ability to lift and carry large pans from ovens or freezers, weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to handle or operate dangerous kitchen equipment

    • Processes sale with appropriate point of sale system, accepts payment, counts change and bags merchandise.
    • Maintains records related to sales.
    • Routinely stocks merchandise and faces items on shelves.
    • Verifies amount of bank at beginning and the end of each shift.
    • Maintains a clean and organized store or stand.
    • Maintains orderly back-stock and knows where goods are to be found.
    • Completes all related close-out paperwork.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications 

    • Previous experience in retail or customer service environment preferred.
    • Good communication skills; ability to communicate with guests and co-workers.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
    • Basic math skills; ability to accurately handle money and count change.
    • Capable of following job guidelines and supervisors' instructions.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
    • Ability to stand for entire length of shift.
    • Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently.
    • Bending, reaching, climbing on step stool.
    • Visual acuity sufficient to see and distinguish merchandise and operate point-of-sale system.
    • Majority of time spent in indoor, climate-controlled environment of retail store

    Responsibilities 

    • Leads Team in creating an excellent guest experience by monitoring the sales floor, greeting and acknowledging guests, answering questions, and assisting guests whenever possible.
    • Led, trained, and supervise team members in maintaining retail standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Lead and supervise team members in completing store operational needs by assigning tasks and following up with team members.
    • Regularly evaluate, create, and maintain professional visual displays; provides direction to retail team members regarding store merchandising and displays.
    • Processes sales with the appropriate point of sale system, accept payment, counts change and bags merchandise, and maintains records related to sales.
    • Ensures integrity of physical inventory.
    • Maintains cleanliness and safety standards throughout the retail shops.

    Qualifications 

    • Minimum 1 year supervisory experience in a customer service or retail environment preferred.
    • Previous cash handling experience required.
    • Previous experience working with point of sale (POS) system required.
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to direct the work activities of several associates simultaneously and plan ahead.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced environment.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to stand for the entire length of shift.
    • Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently.
    • Bending, reaching, and climbing on a step stool.
    • Visual acuity is sufficient to see and distinguish merchandise and operate a point-of-sale system.
    • The majority of time is spent in the indoor, climate-controlled environments of retail stores.
    • May also be exposed to a partially sheltered outdoor environment subject to climate fluctuations.

    • Provides legendary customer service by engaging with and understanding our customers, discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication.
    • Prepares food and beverages to standard recipes or customized for customers, including recipe changes such as temperature, quantity of ingredients or substituted ingredients.

    • Follows Starbucks operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all partners during each shift.
    • Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
    • Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.

    Qualifications 

    • Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality, with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and holidays.

    Physical Requirements 

    • Constant standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive motions. 
    • Ability to remain stationary for the entire length of shift.
    • Ability to perform normal lifting of stock up to 50 pounds.
