The CSU Desert Studies Center (DSC) is seeking a full-time Cook for our busy season between late September 2026 through May 2027. Visitor groups vary from 12 to 65 people. Many groups visit on weekends (Fri-Sun), but the rest of the time will be used for shopping (the nearest large grocery stores are in Barstow, ~1 hour away), cleaning, and meal planning and prep. Housing is available on-site free-of-charge. This position may be continued into future years. There are three other staff members on-site, but the cook is the only kitchen employee.

Established in 1976, the DSC is a remote, 1,200-acre satellite campus of the California State University that provides logistical support and infrastructure for research, teaching, and outreach about California’s deserts. The field station is located in the Mojave National Preserve, between Los Angeles and Las Vegas and is completely off-grid for water and power. For more information about the DSC, visit our website: www.fullerton.edu/dsc

How to Apply

The Cook is a state employee of California State University Fullerton, but the position is based at the Center, outside of Baker, California. Must have a valid California driver's license.
