    Job Summary

    The Tour Host provides guided tours through the facilities of Saxman Native Village.  This person will greet guests upon arrival and guide them through the Clan House, Totem Park, and Carving Center.  Tour Hosts are responsible for engaging with guests and providing a quality experience that shares the history of the area.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Provide personable and friendly interaction with tour guests.
    • Greet guests and answer questions to provide a positive and memorable experience.
    • Gather guests in crowds and ensure accurate timing of tours.
    • Assist customers and staff to ensure a safe environment by keeping proper count of guests, clearing the walkways of any debris, reporting any tripping or other hazards to management to protect the health and safety of themselves, coworkers and customers.
    • Resolve problems with employees and guests in a professional manner.
    • Provide knowledge of area including the environment, cultural history, practices, and lifestyle of today.
    • Perform end-of-day duties by cleaning facilities including sweeping restrooms, restocking restroom supplies, picking up trash, disposing of trash, bringing signage into office, and so on.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

     

    Work Environment

    Subject to outside weather including exposure to heavy rain, cold, wind and heat.  Venue can be very crowded with people at times.  Terrain can include inclines, declines, gravel pathways, grass and concrete.  Strong aromas of cedar and other plant life is present in all of the facilities.  Work area will be free from debris, dust, spilled liquids, and food particles.  Employee will maintain all workspaces in a clean and organized manner.

     

    Education and/or Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Previous work experience in customer service and/or tourism is preferred.
    • Previous work experience as a guide or public presentations is preferred.

     

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Ability to learn adequate knowledge of local environment, cultural history, practices, and lifestyle of today.
    • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to accommodate a variable work schedule.
    • Must maintain knowledge of written training materials to ensure accuracy of tour information.

    Retail Clerk

    Job Summary

    The Retail Clerk welcomes all guests to the Cape Fox Village Store and assists with their needs pertaining to their visit.  The Retail Clerk will take great pride in the store’s appearance, keeping it neat, removing litter and debris, handling retail purchases, stock store merchandise and other duties as assigned.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Provide personable and friendly interaction with customers.
    • Exhibit good communication skills.
    • Answer product questions, locations, and promotions and make suggestions to customers.
    • Assist customers in finding the items they are looking for and assist with purchasing decisions.
    • Proficiently use a cash register to handle transactions at the point of sale, taking cash, credit and other forms of payment.
    • Make change for customers and provide receipts.
    • Assist customers, staff, volunteers, and visitors as related to retail.
    • Replenish store merchandise as needed and maintain the store’s appearance by stocking shelves and organizing products.
    • Resolve problems with other employees and with customers in a professional manner.
    • Cheerfully share knowledge of local environment and cultural history, practices and today’s lifestyle.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

     

    Work Environment

    Work area will be free from debris, dust, spilled liquids, and food particles. Employee will maintain all workspaces in a clean and organized manner.

    Work hours will vary between 7am and 7pm and may include weekends and weekdays.  The store is open 7 days a week.

     

    Education and/or Experience

    High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

    Previous experience in tourism is desired but not required.

    Job Summary

    The Non-CDL Driver Guide position provides transportation for cruise ship guests during the summer season.  You will share educational details and stories about Ketchikan, while providing transportation to various venues throughout Ketchikan, Alaska.  This position will maintain a safe and presentable manner during all job duties.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Safely and efficiently provide guest transportation to and from various venues.
    • Routinely drive transit-sized vans, providing narrated tours.
    • Provide guided tours at select venues.
    • Directly assist in passenger movement between cruise ships and tour vehicles.
    • Maintain logs of passenger counts and driving routes.
    • Maintain reports of daily mileage, fuel log, and hours on each coach.
    • Perform pre-trip and post-trip daily inspections of vehicles and provide basic mechanical duties.
    • Communicate with support staff.
    • Report all accidents, injuries, unsafe working conditions, and damages.
    • Learn and maintain knowledge on all routes, procedures, and timing.
    • Follow all state laws while operating vehicles and ensure all pertinent insurance and other driving-related documents are up-to-date and visible.
    • Wash and wipe down exterior of vehicle.
    • Detail the outside and inside of vehicles; ensure tires, door jambs, seating areas, floorboards, cup holders, dashes, mirrors, etc. are clean.
    • Wipe down all surfaces of inside of vehicle.
    • Perform end-of-day duties by disposing of any trash, parking in the designated area, turning off all electrical units, returning the vehicle key and so on.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Work Environment

    Work area will be free from debris, dust, spilled liquids, and food particles. Employee will maintain all workspaces in a clean and organized manner. Employee will be seated for various lengths of time while driving.  When conducting tours, the employee will be walking for various lengths of time on uneven/gravel walkways.  Subject to outside weather including exposure to heavy rain, cold, wind and heat.  Dock areas can be very crowded with vehicles and people.  Noise levels can be extremely high due to the congestion of vehicles and people on the docks.

     

    Education and/or Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • A valid Driver’s License.
    • Previous experience in positions involving customer service or tourism is preferred.
    • Must be certified as physically qualified through the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen.

     

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Ability to provide guided tours while driving and at venues.
    • Must have a clean driving record/experience going back three (3) years.
    • Minimum age of 21.
    • Ability to communicate in a friendly and professional manner with all guests.
    • Knowledge of surrounding area and be able to find places and make stops in a reasonable and timely manner.

    The Native Artist will work on various projects throughout the summer based on ability and talent.  The Native Artist will be well-versed in the Native Arts and willing to tell stories relevant to the art being created and share cultural significance, knowledge and talent with others.  The artist will adapt to various tour schedules throughout the season and engage with guests and answer questions.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Provide personable and friendly interaction with tour guests.
    • Work with traditional materials and techniques and demonstrate the creative process to an audience.
    • Share knowledge about the art, including its history, significance and connection to native Alaskan heritage and the local environment.
    • Share personal and cultural stories and traditions that are relevant to the art being created to provide a deeper and more personal understanding for the visitors.

    Job Summary

    The Customer Service Representative (CSR) / Dock Representative plays a key role in ensuring an exceptional guest experience for visitors arriving in Ketchikan.  This position assists guests with tour selections, provides detailed information about excursions and pickup locations, and coordinates the check-in and payment process for independently booked tours.

    The role also supports day-to-day operations by communicating with drivers, cruise ship staff, and tour partners to ensure guests are directed to the correct transportation and depart on time.  Daily responsibilities include greeting guests, coordinating logistics, completing daily paperwork, and performing beginning- and end-of-day procedures such as counting tills, making deposits, cleaning the work area, turning signs on and off, restocking brochures, preparing tickets and stickers for the following day, and handing in all completed paperwork, tickets, and vouchers.  This position thrives in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment that requires professionalism, multitasking, and a positive attitude.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Greet and assist guests with professionalism and a friendly demeanor.

    The CDL Driver Guide position provides transportation for cruise ship guests during the summer season.  You will share educational details and stories about Ketchikan, while providing transportation to various venues throughout Ketchikan, Alaska.  This position maintains a safe and presentable manner while performing all job duties.

    Job Summary

    The Server/Prep Guide position provides quality customer service to tourists while helping guide them through a culinary experience.  The Server/Prep Guide will be required to provide narrated tours including educational background of foods to guests throughout their tour.  This position works in a fast-paced environment involving all aspects of food prep, cleaning and serving and will work at any of the three locations listed above:  Saxman Community Center, George Inlet Cannery, and Eagle’s Nest

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Service of local Alaskan food and beverage products to customers.
    • Prep and prepare food and beverage for weekly counts.
    • Prep and prepare workspace for various tours.
    • Present knowledge of local products to customers.
    • Maintain a clean work environment throughout the day.
    • Quickly and efficiently turn over workspace between tours.

    The Adult Native Dancer will greet guests on the scheduled tours of Saxman Native Village into the Tribal House and will assist them, if needed, to their seats.  The Adult Native Dancer will perform the songs and dances for the guests in the traditional regalia and will invite a few guests up to dance on the last dance.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    • Learn and perform various Tlingit songs and dances throughout the tourism season.
    • Will greet and engage in a friendly manner with tour guests to answer various questions.
    • Must have full required regalia consisting of:
      • Blanket
      • Apron/Skirt/Black Pants
      • Headband/Hat/Mask
      • Appropriate Footwear
      • Solid red or Black shirt
    • Perform in a professional manner to represent the culture and company successfully.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Work Environment

    Work area will be free from debris, dust, liquid spillage, and food particles. Maintain all workspaces and in a clean and organized manner.  Work hours will vary depending on the cruise ship schedule.

     

    Education and/or Experience

    • Previous experience in tourism and customer service is preferred.
    • Previous history in cultural dance and song is preferred.
