As Environmental Education Instructor, you will have the option to live on site from August to December serving as an instructor and public relations ambassador for all visiting teachers in our Environmental Education Programs. 

Located just 30 minutes from Charlotte on beautiful Lake Wylie, South Carlina, YMCA Camp Thunderbird provides the perfect environment for life changing experiences. 

Essential Functions: 

• To take part in all training or in-service activities to develop proficiencies required to perform job responsibilities.

• Be proficient in teaching the program curriculum and concepts

• Promote positive interactions within the class group.

• Be proficient in orienting the students to the facility in order to provide information regarding procedures and safety.

• Provide an outdoor education experience for special population students.

• Maintain a good working relationship with other instructors, administrative staff, maintenance staff, and interns.

• Provide a safe experience for all students.

• Cooperate in maintaining the grounds, and seeing that facility equipment is used properly, and returned promptly in good condition.

• Be sure that students wear proper attire suitable for the existing weather.

• Assist in the mealtime cafeteria procedures.

• Evening responsibilities two nights per week.

• High ropes certification training provided during onboarding 

Preferred Requirements:

• Substitute or teaching experience

• Camp counselor experience

• College degree in related field

• Possess knowledge in the areas of camp programming and student supervision.

Physical Requirements:

• Walking (five miles/day)

• Lifting (50 lbs - occasionally)

• Carrying (50 lbs - occasionally)
