This position involves leading daily excursions through the Prudhoe Bay Oilfields of Alaska to the Arctic Ocean. Each trip is approximately 2 hours in length, and you may be asked to conduct two or three shuttles per day. Tours are in a 24-passenger Starcraft bus or 10-passenger Ford Econoline E350 van, depending on guest numbers. You will be responsible for preparing manifests for oilfield security for each excursion, printing guest certificates, keeping the vehicle clean, and maintaining a supply of laundered, folded towels available for those who wish to swim in the Arctic Ocean. These tasks will need to be performed on a daily basis. We offer these shuttles onto the Prudhoe Bay oilfield May 25 to September 15th each summer. This position is 7 days a week for the remainder of the season, but we have other guides that can fill in on occasion if needed.
This excursion is not advertised to guests as a tour, but it is important to learn something about Deadhorse, the Oilfields and the natural history of Arctic Alaska to share on the journey to and from the Ocean.
Having a Class C or higher Commercial Driver License is required for the position, as is being able to pass a national background check.
The position starts at $20.00 per hour and includes room and board as part of the compensation package. The last excursion of the summer is September 15 and if hired, you will be expected to work up to and including that day. There is a season completion bonus of $2,000 that is meant to keep coworkers through the season but to also go towards airfare if someone is flying themselves to Fairbanks, Alaska - which is where you will need to be to start training for this position.
