As we celebrate 5 years in business, we continue to grow while staying true to what makes our operation special- great food, strong teamwork, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere.

Our bar features a large outdoor backyard space that hosts live entertainment, events, and gatherings throughout the season. From live music nights to busy summer crowds and year-round specials, no two shifts feel the same.
We pride ourselves on creating an environment where employees are part of the experience- not just staff members, but a team that works hard, supports each other, and takes pride in delivering memorable hospitality. If you enjoy a fast-moving workplace, a strong team culture, and the lifestyle that comes with living and working in a beautiful Northern Michigan destination, you'll feel right at home here.

Our summers are energetic and fast-paced, giving team members the opportunity to ear excellent money while working hard in a fun, team-driven environment. We value employees who show up ready to work, support their coworkers, and take pride in honest, dependable effort.
One of the unique perks of working here is the ability to enjoy the outdoors while you work. During the summer months, much of the experience extends into our large backyard space filled with live entertainment, sunshine, and even our resident goats, who have become part of the Goat Locker personality.
Many employees leave the season with more than just income- they leave with confidence, new skills, unforgettable memories, and friendships that last a lifetime. The best takeaway from a season here is often remembering a summer well spent: working hard, living simply, making great money, and being part of a team and community that feels like home.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal team member at the Wheelhouse Diner and Goat Locker Saloon is someone who takes pride in honest, hard work, shows up dependable and ready to contribute, and understands the importance of teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Our busiest seasons require employees who can stay positive under pressure, help their coworkers, and take ownership of their role each shift.
Successful employees here are adaptable, self-motivated, and enjoy being part of a close-knit team. Living and working in a small town like Paradise means embracing simple living, respecting shared housing environments, and contributing to a supportive community both inside and outside of work
We welcome individuals with experience, but we are happy to train the right candidate and cross-train team members who are motivated to learn new positions and grow their skills. A willingness to learn, work hard, and support the team is often more important than prior experience.
We look for individuals who enjoy hospitality, appreciate the outdoors, and want to make the most of a seasonal experience - working hard during busy shifts while enjoying Michigan's Upper Peninsula during their time off.
The best fit for the Wheelhouse Diner and Goat Locker Saloon is someone who wants more than just a job - someone looking to gain experience, earn strong income during a busy season, and leave with lasting friendships, valuable skills, and memories of an unforgettable summer.
Room and Board
We provide employee housing to help make relocating to Paradise simple, affordable, and convenient. Our team housing includes two fully furnished homes, each featuring three bedrooms, with one person per bedroom or accommodations available for couples when applicable.
Each home offers a shared kitchen, living space, and bathroom, creating a comfortable and respectful shared living environment. Housing is located within a few miles of the restaurant, making for an easy commute to and from work.
Employee housing is available for $150 per month, which includes internet and satellite TV. For employees traveling with their own setup, we also offer space for RV parking.
The property also includes an outdoor grill, fire pit, and plenty of parking, giving employees space to relax and enjoy their time off.
Employees are responsible for bringing their own bed linens and bath towels. There are some available, but it's always best to bring your own.
In addition to housing, employees receive 50% meal discounts while at work and 10% meal discounts when off duty.
Our goal is to provide clean, safe, and affordable accommodations so team members can focus on work, enjoy the area, and fully experience life in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Employee Perks
At the Wheelhouse Diner and Goat Locker Saloon, we believe hard work should come with real rewards - both on and off the clock.
Servers leave with their tips at the end of each shift, with tip-outs only to the bartender and hostess. We do not participate in tip pooling, allowing employees to directly benefit from their individual performance. Payroll is processed through bi-weekly direct deposit for convenience and consistency.
Team members receive three employee uniform shirts, along with 50% off all Goat Locker merchandise. Employees also enjoy a 50% meal discount and an after-shift duty drink to unwind with coworkers following a busy shift.
We value commitment and reliability, which is why employees who complete the season are eligible for an end-of-season bonus.
Living and working in Paradise also comes with unique lifestyle perks. Employees may enjoy access to complimentary kayaks or canoes to explore the area, and when time allows, staff may even experience a boat ride around Whitefish Point and Crisp Point Lighthouse, taking in some of the most beautiful shoreline on Lake Superior.
Our goal is to create an experience where employees not only earn high income but also enjoy unforgettable moments, outdoor adventure, and a season they'll always remember.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Having your own vehicle is helpful but not required; however, reliable transportation is strongly recommended. Employee housing is located approximately 2 miles from the restaurant. Biking is an option for those who are physically fit, but the route includes a dirt road/path with no lighting at night - only the stars, so employees should be comfortable with riding in rural conditions, not to forget climate conditions.
In the past seasons, some employees have coordinated shared rides, but having your own transportation provides the most flexibility for work schedules and personal time.
Paradise is a remote and peaceful community with no taxi, Uber, or Lyft services available. The nearest larger city is Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, is located about 60 miles away, where employees can access major grocery stores such as Walmart, Meijer, and other conveniences.
The closest airports are:
CIU (Chippewa County International Airport)
PLN (Pellston Regional Airport)
Airport pickup from either location can be arranged when scheduled in advance.
Bus transportation is available through Indian Trails Bus Lines, with pickup possible in St. Ignace or Sault Ste. Marie, and transportation to Paradise can be arranged from those locations if coordinated ahead of arrival.
Living and working here offers incredible natural beauty and a unique experience - just be prepared for small-town, rural Upper Peninsula living.
For Fun
Living and working in Paradise, Michigan, means being surrounded by some of the most beautiful and untouched natural scenery in the Midwest. When you're off the clock, adventure is right outside your door.
Employees can explore iconic destinations such as Tahquamenon Falls, Crisp Point Lighthouse, Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, all within driving distance. A short day trip to the Soo Locks or Mackinaw Island is a must-do while here. The area offers endless opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, swimming, beach strolls, rock picking along Lake Superior for agates, and miles of SXS and recreational trails to explore.
Paradise is also known for its peaceful nights and incredible stargazing, far away from city lights. Summers are filled with local events, including the Wild Blueberry Festival, Music on the Bay, festive 4th of July celebrations, and community gatherings throughout the season. Nearby attractions also include unique experiences like visiting a local you-pick cranberry farm during harvest season.
Whether it's paddling on Lake Superior or its river system, watching a sunset on the beach, exploring the waterfalls, or simply relaxing by a fire after work, employees quickly discover that time spent here feels like a true Upper Peninsula of Michigan summer experience - one that combines adventure, relaxation, and memories that last long after the season ends.
