We are a small private club on the island of Martha's Vineyard. We have been a family playground for our membership, since the late 1800's. We offer full dining services, guest rooms, professional tennis lessons, private beaches, child care, weddings, events, and a way of life.
We are located just off the coast of Massachusetts, near Boston. The club is nestled yards from the beach on its own private peninsula.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Sous Chef to join our vibrant culinary team at The West Chop Club. We are a seasonal family oriented Club on the island of Martha's Vineyard. We serve breakfast and lunch daily, fine dining dinners Wednesday-Saturday, and a family cookout for 300+ members on Sundays. In addition we provide food for all staff members on the team 3 meals a day, as well as kids camp 30+ children Monday-Friday.
Housing and meals are provided at no cost to our team.
This seasonal role is from May 18th - September 20th and comes with an end of season bonus.
In this pivotal role, you will assist the Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation. Your energetic leadership will inspire the kitchen staff, foster a collaborative environment, and drive excellence in all aspects of food preparation and service. This position offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary expertise in a fast-paced, fine dining setting while contributing to memorable guest experiences.
Responsibilities
Support the Executive Chef in managing daily kitchen operations, including food production, inventory control, and staff scheduling
Supervise and motivate kitchen staff to maintain high standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness
Assist with menu planning and development, incorporating innovative dishes and seasonal ingredients
Oversee food handling procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Coordinate catering events and banquet services, ensuring timely and flawless execution
Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and control food costs effectively
Lead shift management duties such as assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and maintaining a positive work environment
Experience
Proven experience in a supervisory role within a professional kitchen environment
Extensive culinary background with fine dining experience preferred
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and dietary department procedures
Demonstrated ability to manage inventory, control costs, and oversee food production processes
Experience in banquet service, catering, and large-scale food events is highly desirable
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively and foster collaboration
Background in restaurant management or food service management is advantageous
