Shining Sails is a small family run Inn, Bed and Breakfast, and Property Management business located on Monhegan Island. Monhegan is a quiet and remote tourist destination reached by an hour-long ferry ride. Housing in a single room with shared kitchen and bathroom is provided to employees as well as breakfast each day. Any employees occupying housing must agree to the housing agreement. All positions at Shining Sails require a smart-phone to access work related apps. Schedules rotate with at least one day off per week.

Shining Sails Housekeepers are principally responsible for cleaning of guest rooms and common spaces, hotel laundry, daily care for our chickens, and the set-up and breakdown of breakfast and other events such as High Tea and Manager’s receptions. All candidates must be able to read, write, and speak English. Housekeepers receive workflow instruction daily from management and must be able to self direct resources to complete projects in a timely fashion and must be able to adjust to updated tasks throughout a shift. All housekeepers must be able to learn the appropriate use of, handle, and apply, cleaning chemicals and detergents and to use provided PPE as necessary. Must be able to move 30 lbs and hang laundry on lines 5ft high; must be on your feet and moving, reaching both ceilings and floors, for your entire shift. Some direct customer interaction is required, housekeepers must be kind and courteous to guests at all times. No experience is necessary, on-job training takes 1-2 weeks and is provided.

Housekeepers accessory responsibilities involve gardening, pop up events, on-call cleaning, moving luggage and rubbish, front desk, and other tasks as required. A typical workweek involves 25-32 hours of principle activities and 2-10 hours of accessory activities; an average workweek is 34 hours. Preference is given to candidates who can work the entire season from mid-April to mid-October.
