Come work, where others play! High end guests travel from around the world to enjoy all that this wilderness retreat has to offer. We're looking for a new addition to our amazing team who is interested in working seasonally for years to come. If you have a passion for the culinary world and love the wilderness, then this is your dream job come true! We are truly in God's country out here!
Some cooking experience is required, but you don't have to be a professional chef. If you're a hard worker and have a teachable spirit, we'll set you up for success. You'll be working alongside Carly and Denise, who have decades of experience, and their lodge recipes will rival any restaurant in town. If you've worked in a kitchen, you understand it's hard work. You'll be preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, breads, salads, appetizers, and many items from scratch for between 10 and 30 staff/guests daily. Keeping the kitchen and dining room clean and doing dishes are very important parts of the job as well. Planning ahead, ordering food, unloading supply planes of food etc. are all part of it. Whatever it takes to help the kitchen run smoothly, we all pitch in and help no matter the task. Since it's seasonal work and a short season, the plan is to work 6 days a week with a day off. Depending on the schedule, we may need to adjust the day off to fit the needs of our guests. There will be some very long days, but also, if you work hard and plan appropriately, there should be plenty of downtime throughout the day as well.
We work hard, but we play hard. This job is remote, with no roads for over 125 miles, so you'll be there for the entire season. We all live, work, and play together. There's a lot to do with a large lake, canoe, kayak, paddle board, evening volleyball games, other yard games, hiking, horseback riding, shooting sports, evening campfires, and even some helicopter excursions are usually an option.
The starting pay is not a lot as there is a lot of training involved to get you up to speed, but if we have the right person we are willing to bump them up. In addition to the monthly salary, you'll receive room and board which costs us about $4500 a month per person just in food costs, you'll receive charter flights between Anchorage and the lodge at the beginning and end of the season which costs us about $2000 each way, you'll receive lodge shirts and gratuities. Our kitchen staff made about $10,000 each in additional tips for the 4 months last year. The other bonus to a job like this is you have nowhere to spend your money so you can leave the season with a nice amount in your account.
We have an amazing crew and culture at the lodge, just check out our social media pages to get a taste of the family atmosphere we provide. Our staff come back year after year. We're looking for a couple of people who want to make this kitchen their home seasonally for the next few years at least. It takes a lot of time and resources to train people in this atmosphere.
We'd like to add a Head Cook - Someone we can train to run the kitchen fully over the next few years, this person should have a little more culinary experience and be good at organizing, ordering, and planning things out. We'd like to start this person at $2500/mo. and willing to bump up pay if they work out well and can take over more as we go.
We're also looking for an Assistant Cook - Someone who maybe does not want the responsibility to run the kitchen themselves or is not yet ready for that, but who enjoys cooking and learning. This person does not need a ton of experience, but a willingness to learn. Maybe this person becomes the Head Cook down the road. This is more of an internship position with a starting stipend of $1500/mo.
We are a drug, pot, and tobacco free operation including vaping to be sure we're keeping the pure, clean, wilderness environment our clients are seeking. Please be sure this is a good fit for you.
