Diesel Technician

Our Denali Transportation team is currently seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to perform preventative maintenance and service on our fleet of diesel engine motorcoaches and related components.

Please note – This position is based in Anchorage or Fairbanks from October through April and in Healy from May through September. Housing and meals are provided at no charge while in Healy, AK, and the position includes a $5.00 per hour wage increase during the Healy assignment.

Responsibilities:

  • Routinely, performs preventative maintenance and safety inspections

  • Proficient in the diagnoses and repair electrical systems, refrigeration systems, pneumatic systems, brakes and drive trains.

  • Cleans and maintains maintenance facilities and areas according to established Company standards.

  • Applies federal, state, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures to all tasks.

  • Maintains maintenance records in the appropriate logs.

  • Performs maintenance duties required by departmental supervision.

Requirements:

  • This job normally requires a level of experience and knowledge in motor coach maintenance equivalent to that which would be acquired through the completion of an Associate’s degree or some college or completion of technical training or certification and two years’ experience. Directly related work experience which demonstrates technical knowledge may be considered in lieu of formal education.

  • Current or the ability to attain within one year of employment CFC and brake inspector certification.

  • Current or the ability to attain an Alaska Driver’s license with Commercial Driver's License B endorsement. The CDL endorsement may be obtained through Company training course. Suitable driving record required, a Motor Vehicle Report will be requested.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and will become a part of the random drug test pool.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in the use of computer business applications, with working knowledge of computerized maintenance inventory and laptop diagnostics.

  • Ability to prioritize work, establish and meet deadlines, maintain an attention to accuracy and details while working in a team environment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and written to employees and management.

  • Proficiency in reading electric and pneumatic schematics, maintenance literature, and parts diagrams.

  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, maintains an attention to accuracy and detail, while working in a team or group environment.

Operation Notes:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk, climb and work in elevated areas 20 feet off the ground, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, to use a computer to research and enter information, and to keep accurate logs of work performed.

  • The employee will frequently lift and or move up to 60 pounds and will occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; vehicle fuels and fluids, refrigerant, and maintenance cleaning solutions.

  • The work is performed in a typical maintenance shop environment during company established work hours and workdays.

  • The shift schedule may vary. Weekend, holiday and overtime work may be required according to business needs.
