Are you someone who feels most alive outdoors — surrounded by ocean air, wildlife, and adventure? Do you want more than just a summer job… but a summer story you’ll tell for years?
We are seeking enthusiastic, adaptable individuals who want to join an adventure-loving team at Orca Island Cabins, a one-of-a-kind, family-owned eco-retreat operated by longtime Alaskans who live and work on the water. Our remote property sits nine miles south of Seward and is accessible only by boat, making every workday an experience before you even arrive.
Your daily commute? A breathtaking 30–60 minute boat ride across Resurrection Bay — where harbor seals surface beside you, river otters drift through kelp beds, and Dall’s porpoises often race the vessel, playing in the wake. Around here, wildlife sightings aren’t special events — they’re part of the routine.
✨ The Experience
This seasonal position runs May through September, placing you in one of Alaska’s most stunning marine environments. As an Overnight Site Host, you become an essential part of our guest experience, helping visitors safely explore and connect with the natural world around them.
Guests come to unplug, explore, and recharge — and you help make that possible.
🛶 Role & Responsibilities
Overnight Hosts wear many hats in our remote setting. Your primary responsibility is to be a welcoming, knowledgeable, and dependable presence for guests.
Key duties include:
Serving as the main point of contact for guest questions, directions, and assistance
Monitoring guest activities and maintaining awareness of guest locations at all times
Supporting safe use of onsite recreation equipment, including:
Kayaks
Stand-up paddle boards
Row boats
Snorkeling equipment
Fishing gear
Learning to safely operate a small staff skiff
Reporting maintenance needs and supporting basic upkeep
Monitoring inventory and notifying supervisors when supplies need replacement
Becoming familiar with all onsite systems and performing minor adjustments or simple repairs when needed
In a remote environment, teamwork, initiative, and problem-solving are essential.
🏡 Housing & Lifestyle
Seasonal housing in Seward is extremely limited — but we’ve secured employee accommodations so you can focus on enjoying your summer.
On-duty: Stay onsite at the island property as Overnight Host
Days off: Relax and explore Seward while staying in shared employee housing with fellow staff
Family-run culture where staff are treated like family, not just employees
Our goal is simple: create a summer that feels like an adventure, not just employment.
🎒 Applicants Must
Lift and carry 50 lbs minimum
Walk while carrying supplies across uneven terrain and boardwalks
Be comfortable working on and around boats
Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills
Thrive in a remote, team-oriented environment
Hold a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification — or be willing to obtain it prior to arrival
✈️ Added Perks
Daily wildlife encounters and unmatched scenery
Unique remote work experience
Close-knit team atmosphere
Return travel reimbursement for out-of-state staff upon successful completion of the season*
*Travel reimbursement based on lowest airfare pricing to the original departure airport.
🌲 Come live, work, and play in one of the most beautiful places in the country — and, in our opinion, on the planet.
If you’re ready for salt air, adventure, and a summer unlike any other, we’d love to meet you.
