We are seeking a dependable, safety driven Boat Captain to operate scheduled lodge transportation in/across the bay in Homer, Alaska. This position focuses on the safe and efficient transport of guests, staff, and supplies between the lodge and regional access point. Ideal for a professional mariner who values consistency, sound judgment, and teamwork in a remote environment. Season dates: May-September
Responsibilities
Safely operate lodge vessels for scheduled guest and staff transportation
Transport luggage, provisions, and light freight as needed
Make weather- and tide-based go/no-go decisions with guest safety as the top priority
Conduct safety briefings and ensure all passengers comply with vessel procedures
Coordinate closely with lodge operations and management on daily schedules
Perform routine vessel checks, basic maintenance, cleaning, and fueling
Maintain accurate trip logs and report mechanical or safety concerns promptly
Provide professional, courteous guest interaction while maintaining operational focus
Required Qualifications
Valid USCG Captain’s License (OUPV/6-Pack or Master, appropriate to vessel)
Current First Aid & CPR certification (WFA or higher preferred)
Strong navigation and seamanship skills in coastal/nearshore waters
Experience operating in remote or cold-water environments
Ability to work long, variable hours and in changing weather conditions
Physically able to lift 50 lbs and assist with loading/unloading
Strong communication skills and calm decision-making under pressure
Drug-free workplace compliance
