Northland Outfitters is a cabin resort and campground on the Manistique River. We are also a canoe and kayak livery that services 65+ miles of the Manistique River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Northland is home to the famous artist, Thomas Dambo "Troll" Benny the Beard Fisher. Fun, bustling environment. Yacht Club Coffee and Beer opening Spring 2026!
We are located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, about 1.5 hour drive from the Mackinac Bridge. Sandwiched 30 minutes between both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. We are located directly on the Manistique River. 40 min from the famous Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

- Beautiful remodeled farmhouse that will be the home to the new Yacht Club Coffee house on the main floor, and employee housing on the 2nd floor. This is located right on the premises of Northland Outfitters- so no commute involved! Private Bedrooms, and shared community spaces such as the kitchen and bathrooms. Many of our employees are local, and live at their own homes. The employee housing will be shared with one other couple. Big beautiful bedrooms, with large windows. Completely renovated building log building.

About Northland Outfitters & UP Yacht Club
Northland Outfitters is a riverside campground tucked alongside the Manistique River. We are a Cabin and RV resort with 8 cabins and 9 RV sites, situated beautifully in a scenic river setting. Northland is also a kayak and canoe livery and services many paddling options, from day trips to multi-day overnight trips. Yacht Club Coffee and Beer is opening early summer as an exciting new addition to all that Northland Outfitters has to offer.
We are host to a world-famous piece of art on the property, made by Thomas Dambo who makes giant whimsical trolls, from recycled materials. His works are incredible and enjoyed by thousands
The Employee Experience
At Northland Outfitters, you'll wake up with fresh air and pine. You'll greet families rolling in for summer getaways. Afternoons are busy and make the days go quick. Nights wind down around a fire pit, hit the river yourself, or go out exploring what the Upper Peninsula has to offer. It's hands-on, good vibes, and you clock out with fuel in the tank. Perfect for folks who want to earn a buck while spending time in some gorgeous nature. We are so excited to be adding the coffee shop and live music to the mix this year.

Experience in hospitality helps, but enthusiasm and attitude beat a stacked resume every time.
We have in the past, invited couples, where one of the individuals worked remotely and the other worked at the campground. We are open to this for future employees
Room and Board
All applicants will have free room in board in exchange for help with some of the daily laundry. 20 minutes or so off duty work, folding sheets. This can be rotated by housemates
Employees will have their own bedroom. 2 shared bathrooms. The farmhouse is located on the property, so no commute to work. There is a brand new kitchen and outside grill for your cooking needs. Small grocery store one block away.
We also do occasional meals with everyone. Pizza, bbq etc.
We have several long time employees who live locally. Durea and Levi, the owners, live on the property in a separate house.
Employee Perks
At Northland, we take care of each other. Often we watch live sports together, kayak and canoe, bbq, pontoon boating, and fishing. This year we are putting in a stage for live music. We do our best to honor a joyful work life balance.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Northland is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the UP is very big.
Luckily, we are located in the center portion. making us a great basecamp for all of the sites and activities on your off time. There is also a small grocery and vegetable stand across the street (1-2 min walk) from the campground. It is somewhere you'll need to have transportation to get out and explore. We have multiple vans, and employees are allowed to use them for short times on occasion.
For Fun
Northland's team feels like hanging out with your buds. We try to unwind as often as possible. This includes kayaking, games, sports, movies, pontoon boats, scenic outings, food, and drinks etc. Also, we do our best to accommodate everyone's time of needs.
Current Job Openings
Boat Crew / Grounds Maintenance
This job involves loading boats onto a trailer, and then hauling both boats and passengers to various drop off points along the river. The crew is responsible for safely loading guests into boats and launching them on the river.
This job includes backing up a 15 passenger van that has a kayak/canoe trailer attached to the back of it. Willing to train right person, that feels confident in learning this skill.
Crew provides clear, and professional instructions, and operates in a timely manner. Must be physically active and able to move around, lift boats. We treat our guest like gold! If you enjoy customer service, you'll be rewarded with plenty of tips!
NO guided trips involved. Drop-off points are in close proximity to the campground.
Typically, between 5-10 min drives.
During slower times of the day, crew is responsible for grounds maintenance.
This includes lawn care, help with various projects, help with flipping cabins on slower days when we do not bring in the housekeeping crew. This ensures more hours for you .
Safe driving records, and physical strength required (boats weigh between 60-100 lbs)
Opportunity to be cross trained for additional hours in the gift shop and or housekeeping
Hours are typically between 30-40 week. Free housing included
