Outdoor Environmental/SEL Educator
Do you love working with kids? Do you love being outside? At NorthBay you have a chance to impact diverse students from across the state of Maryland in a once in a lifetime outdoor school experience.
NorthBay is looking for people who want to make a difference in the lives of students and are willing to become experts in teaching social emotional learning and leading outdoor environmental investigations. You don’t need to be a master naturalist or have won a season of “Survivor.” You bring your heart and a willingness to learn and NorthBay will provide the training you need.
NorthBay Education is a non-profit organization providing large-scale, innovative, outdoor education programs to public school students from diverse backgrounds. Headquartered on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in North East Maryland, NorthBay is the largest program of its kind, serving middle school students from Maryland and surrounding states. NorthBay’s goal is to transform lives and inspire action by fundamentally changing the way students experience and engage in education. NorthBay programs provide experience-based education, emphasizing social emotional learning, leadership, math, science, language arts, and literacy, while simultaneously facilitating meaningful outdoor experiences and adventure. NorthBay delivers excellence in programming and service to set the national standard for experiential outdoor education.
NorthBay is seeking Seasonal Educators within the Education Department to work with middle school students in 3 Day residential learning experiences at the NorthBay campus, and at local schools. Programming is centered upon social-emotional learning themes, using the natural environment as a metaphor for learning about how our choices affect ourselves, the environment and our community. Educators are integral to leading the NorthBay program and are responsible for leading and educating students on a weekly basis.
Our organization is looking for highly motivated, independent educators with a willingness and ability to learn new material and adapt quickly to changing environments/needs. High energy, dedication, enthusiasm, flexibility, organization, professionalism, and strong work ethic are required to be successful in this position. Successful candidates can come from a variety of backgrounds including education, environmental science or advocacy, coaching or some other field that provides experience working with children, and should demonstrate a sincere aspiration to positively affect students’ lives.
This is a seasonal position, Monday- Friday, August 24th - Mid November (Fall end date negotiable); Spring season March - June
Compensation ranges from $17-$19/hour
