About North Lake Powell - Ticaboo & Offshore Marina

North Lake Powell, Utah

Located in Southeast Utah at an elevation of 4200 ft., North Lake Powell is a privately owned, diverse operation consisting of the Ticaboo Lodge, nightly rentals, RV Park, Trading Post and Grill, and North Lake Powell Marine Services (AKA "Offshore Marina"). In addition, we offer guided tours, ATV rentals and boat rentals to adventure-seeking guests.

Located just 12 miles from Lake Powell, we're surrounded by publicly accessible lands, roads, and ATV trails to the nearby Henry Mountains. Boaters, hikers, campers, rock climbers, photographers, bloggers and stargazers are attracted by the vast beauty and serenity of our "Red Rock Country".

As part of the Colorado Plateau, North Lake Powell boasts deep canyons, natural arches, and cool slot canyons. Lack of light pollution and clear skies allow for an awe-inspiring "dark sky" view of the night sky. A hike in the right area could reward you with arrowheads, petrified wood, small sea-creature fossils, or fossilized dinosaur dung. Magnificent rock art and ancient cave dwellings can also be found just a short drive away.

Exploration of Glen Canyon in the 1700's, the building of Glen Canyon Dam in the 60's, and uranium mining in the 70's helped provide the infrastructure and resources needed to survive our remote, dry desert environment; land and water adventure-seekers now had unlimited access to this previously inaccessible area.

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, Edward Abbey, and Everett Ruess are but a few of the notable/notorious characters and icons to explore, write about, and forever be affected by the surrounding landscape. Come to work a season and fall in love; fall under the same spell the legends did, and it will never leave you!

The Employee Experience

Although we're a small staff at North Lake Powell, we're a diverse, dedicated, knowledgeable team; we work hard to make North Lake Powell an enjoyable place to live, work, and play. We like to take the time to appreciate and learn about our surroundings, each other, and the people who visit.

At work we depend on each other to create an ideal guest and visitor experience. We value responsibility, persistence to get the job done, and sometimes ingenuity. As a remote location with limited resources, the magic often lies in the method we use to reach our goals. Having an attitude of helpfulness and an openness to advice helps us improve our daily operations and lives.

Off work we do our best to respect each other's valuable free time and ability to "unplug". That may mean taking advantage of the endless leisure opportunities that exist in the area or cooking your favorite meal.  Whether it's enjoying the blue waters of Lake Powell or the endless landscape of desert sand, rock and mountains or binge watching your favorite series, the definition of unplugging is unique to each individual.

Once a month, the members of our "Ticaboo Explorers Club" travel to an especially interesting, unique and memorable location. This is a very popular and enjoyable club that is open to everyone!

As a high desert environment, North Lake Powell can be described as sunny, hot, and dry with persistent high winds at times. During the "dog days of summer" temperatures often climb above 100 degrees. But with most days having clear blue skies and no cloud cover, you'll have 14 full hours of daylight to enjoy every outdoor activity imaginable!

Our ideal candidate understands and embraces the philosophy "It's not just a job, it's a lifestyle" to the fullest!

Room and Board

North Lake Powell employee housing is located in the small community of Ticaboo, about a mile from Ticaboo Lodge. Although our employee housing is big enough for two, you'll never have to share, unless it’s another employee of your choosing.  Quiet and comfortable, employee housing allows for that good night's sleep everyone needs. No dorms or issues that come with overcrowded living here; our employees say it's the best accommodations in and around National Parks they've lived in!

Along with privacy, you'll enjoy a full-size kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and walk in closet in each unit.  Housing is provided below cost to employees at just $400/month, all utilities and Wi-Fi included. A refundable security deposit of $120 is required for all housing and can be deducted from your paycheck, as is rent.

RV sites with power, water and sewer hookups may also be available for employees with their own RV for a monthly utility fee of $200.00, which covers the cost of power and water. Wi-fi is not provided for the employee RV sites. Availability may be limited as our RV park is very popular with ATV guests.

Bring your best friend! We allow some pets in employee housing, with prior approval. There is an additional, non-refundable pet deposit of $100, which can be deducted from your paycheck in up to 2 increments. Pet owners must take full responsibility for pets, including keeping them on a leash at all times while outdoors and picking up their pet waste.

We don't have an employee dining room, but your taste, schedule, or special diet are easy to accommodate as each living unit has its own cooking facilities. Stock up on milk in the full-size refrigerator and cereal in the multiple cabinet spaces, or use your gas stovetop to try out that delicious looking recipe you saw on social media. Not into cooking but want a hot meal? Take advantage of our employee discount of 50% off the extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu at the Trading Post and Grill. Employees also enjoy a 15% discount off retail & grocery items at the Trading Post and Grill to keep them well fed.

While many necessary items can be bought right on property, most employees enjoy the use of UPS to order supplies, as packages are delivered several times a week. FedEx delivers about once a week and postal mail is delivered 5 days a week. Ticaboo PO Boxes can be obtained through the nearest Utah Post Office for a fee.

Although we have great employee housing, you'll be living within close proximity to other employees, a small non-employee community of Ticaboo citizens, and guests. We require that all employees be able to be respectful and considerate to those who live around them.

Finally, it's very important that as a requirement of the position you're able to provide your own form of reliable transportation, as there are no shuttles, busses, or Ubers available in the area. Walking and bicycles are great for recreation and exercise but are not practical for getting to work, getting around, and having an enjoyable experience as an employee at North Lake Powell.

Employee Perks

Adventure is part of what we do at North Lake Powell!  We are situated 12 miles north of Bullfrog Marina on Lake Powell and right in the middle of millions of acres of public land. Whether you want to fish, hike, explore, swim, camp, take photos or more, it's all right out of your front door - literally.

Employees also enjoy affordable, private, clean, spacious housing located less than a mile from Ticaboo Lodge. The cost for employee housing is $400/month and includes all utilities and Wi-Fi.

Employees can also save money at the Trading Post and Grill, with 50% off prepared food, 25% off souvenirs and clothing, and 15% off retail/grocery items.

Getting Here and Getting Around

Personal Vehicle:  Having your own vehicle is a requirement of all positions due to our remote location. It is especially important to know that no public transportation exists in the area. The nearest taxis, buses, Ubers or airports are 3 hours away. A vehicle makes it possible to arrive, get to work, and enjoy your free time traveling to all of the opportunities around us that are a "days trip" away.

Bicycles are not practical for commuting to work due to periodic high heat, winds, and deep sands. The little community of Ticaboo is off the highway, however, and has paved roads and sidewalks that many enjoy walking, running, or biking on. There are also beautiful, paved roads within a 15-minute drive to explore by bicycle. Offroad trails used by ATV'rs connect employee housing to the Ticaboo Lodge and Trading Post and Grill. A multitude of backcountry trails connect Ticaboo to the Henry Mountains and Capitol Reef National Park, to name just a few.

Our nearest larger town with larger shopping amenities such as a Walmart are located in Grand Junction, Colorado, Price, utah, or Richfield, Utah, and are a 2 1/2 to 3 hour away. There are closer, more limited grocery store options which are one or two hours away in Hanksville, Utah, and Green River, Utah. Retail & basic grocery items can be found at the Trading Post and Grill or at the Bullfrog Corner Store 12 miles away at Lake Powell.

For Fun

We are the "epicenter of adventure and fun" at North Lake Powell. Millions of acres of majestic desert, canyons, and mountains are right in your backyard, not to mention one of the most iconic Lakes in the world right next door. In your free time, load up your friends and travel just 12 miles to the lake, where you can enjoy a day on the beach. Or rent a kayak, canoe, jet ski, or boat and explore the beautiful red rock waterways and nearly 2000 miles of accessible shoreline. Cool off in the evening by camping by the lake or in the nearby Henry Mountains, where you can summit its 10,000- foot peaks if you dare!

On your days off plan your next adventure within the Colorado Plateau region, the 130,000-mile region covering the four corners of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. Containing the greatest concentration of National Parks outside of Washington D.C., this region includes Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Mesa Verde, the Grand Canyon, and Petrified Forest.

As a North Lake Powell employee, you can also join our "Ticaboo Explorer's Club", where employees get together once a month to hike, ride ATV's and see some of the most amazing, sometimes hidden, sights in the area.

Whatever your choice of activity, remember to take plenty of pics, breath the clean air in and know that your next adventure is only limited by your imagination!
