JOB SUMMARY  

The SOLO Southeast Assistant Manager assists the department manager in overseeing all aspects of operations and guest-facing activities. This position reports to the SOLO Southeast Department Manager and is charged with running day-to-day operations and managing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the secondary manager for staff when SOLO Manager is not available

  • Teach courses as needed (including some weekends)

  • Act as the secondary onsite source for students when SOLO instructors are not available

  • Assist in department development: Instructor training, developing new programs, refining teaching methods

  • Coordinate logistical needs for courses: classroom space, lodging, and vehicles for instructors, work with other departments to book resources for courses (lodging, raft trips, etc.).

  • Maintain all calendars, checking our reservation system regularly for changes

  • Process all paperwork to meet needs for SOLO NH, internal NOC Departments, and guest facing materials in a timely manner

  • Assist with operational, marketing, and sales projects within the department

  • Work closely with the Specialty Sales Representatives to increase revenue opportunities 

  • Manage timecards and expense reports

  • Coordinate with Marketing to maintain SOLO Southeast social media sites

  • Work with the Manager to ensure complete, effective and strategic course scheduling and staffing

  • Produce class rosters and communicate with instructors about upcoming courses

  • Order office, general classroom, and Wilderness Medicine/Survival supplies 

  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • Minimum education: Bachelors, preferred in a related field

  • Minimum medical training certification of a Wilderness First Responder, preferred advanced training of EMT or higher

  • Preferred 3 years of relevant teaching or guiding experience

  • Strong set of social and leadership skills and an assertive personality 

  • Strong guest service orientation/ability

  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management with the ability to prioritize

  • Requires demonstrated poise, tact, diplomacy, professionalism, and accountability

  • Self-disciplined, detail oriented and highly organized

  • Ability to function as a team player, take direction as well as function independently

  • Competent with web-based applications, email, and Microsoft Office products

  • Passion for the outdoor industry and leading an outdoor lifestyle

Physical Requirements 

  • Able to stand a majority of the workday

  • Able to demonstrate proper technique in skills taught during courses

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs

  • Must be able to walk 3 miles over uneven terrain
