Pay Rate
First-year Summer Counselor Starting Rate: $420 per week, plus tips; includes Room & Board deduction. Gratuities from our guests are pooled and split evenly among our staff, and represent a significant amount of additional income.
Room and Board
Staff are housed together in shared cabin style housing arrangements, with about 5 people per cabin. Bedding linens, a pillow, towel, and clothing storage is provided, as staff live on-site for this opportunity. Laundry is complementary and is offered once a week.
For food accommodations, meals are served three times a day (plus dessert!), buffet-style, with 24/7 access to a staff refrigerator and freezer, breakfast room (with cereal, bagels and bread), coffee, juice, and snacks (fruit, trail mix, chips, etc.). Additionally, we accommodate various food restrictions and preferences, including Pescatarian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Dairy Free, and Gluten Free.
Duties
You will be responsible for maintaining guest enjoyment and safety on our lake, Lake Homovalo, and our outdoor pool. Here, you are guaranteed a spectacular view of the Great Western Divide as you work. You will be apart of a lifeguard team with 3-4 other lifeguards, and have shifts split between the pool and the lake, rotating according to the schedule made by our Lead Lifeguard.
At our pool, our lifeguards administer swim tests at ~7,500 ft (~2260 m) in elevation for lifejacket-free lake swim. Our lake has plenty of free time to swim and boat with our paddleboards, pedal boats, canoes, and kayaks. Every Friday afternoon, we have canoe races at Lake Homovalo where all lifeguards ensure the safety and enjoyment of a team-based competition for groups of guests.
As we are a family camp, in addition to your regular waterfront duties, you help facilitate our fun evening activities that take place throughout the week. We have a carnival, free choice night, dance party, open-mic night (Coffee House), and talent show, where guests and staff alike can lean into their artistic inclinations (singing, poetry, and comedy routines) and silly sides (skits, dances, and gymnastics).
How to Apply
Apply online.
If you are an international Lifeguard Candidate, we work with a J-1 visa sponsor called CIEE.
