Ski & Bike Mechanic
Montage Big Sky – Big Sky, Montana
Position Overview
At Montage Big Sky, we provide world-class outdoor experiences for our guests throughout both the winter and summer seasons. The Ski & Bike Mechanic plays a key role in maintaining and servicing the resort’s ski, snowboard, and bike fleet to ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest luxury hospitality and safety standards.
This position is responsible for the inspection, tuning, repair, maintenance, and overall care of Montage-owned recreation equipment while supporting the daily operations of the resort’s outdoor adventure programs. The ideal candidate is technically skilled, detail-oriented, safety-focused, and passionate about mountain recreation.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Ski & Snowboard Operations (Winter)
Perform ski and snowboard tuning, waxing, edging, base repair, mounting, and binding adjustments in accordance with manufacturer and industry safety standards.
Inspect, maintain, and service the resort’s ski and snowboard fleet to ensure equipment is guest-ready at all times.
Conduct routine preventative maintenance and seasonal equipment inspections.
Diagnose equipment concerns and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
Maintain detailed service logs and track repairs, maintenance history, and inventory usage through company software systems.
Ensure proper storage, organization, and rotation of ski and snowboard equipment.
Maintain knowledge of current ski and snowboard technologies, products, and safety standards.
Bike Operations (Summer)
Assemble new bikes and perform quality control inspections.
Repair bicycles to the highest standards, including assessing damage and estimating repairs ranging from complete overhauls to quick repairs.
Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on resort-owned bicycles including cleaning, tire replacement, brake adjustments, drivetrain tuning, and suspension setup.
Maintain the resort bike fleet to ensure equipment is properly functioning, safe, and guest-ready.
Diagnose bike issues and recommend additional parts and labor when necessary.
Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and inventory tracking within company systems.
General Responsibilities
Respond promptly and professionally to operational repair requests and equipment needs.
Maintain proper inventory levels of tools, supplies, replacement parts, and repair materials.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
Train and support team members on ski, snowboard, and bike repair best practices when needed.
Follow all company safety, security, and operational policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to leadership immediately.
Visually inspect tools, equipment, and machinery to identify defects or maintenance needs.
Assist recreation and outdoor operations teams as needed.
Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak operational periods.
Deliver service standards and professionalism consistent with the Montage luxury brand.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling
Stand, walk, or work for extended periods of time indoors and outdoors in varying mountain weather conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ski/snowboard technician and/or bike mechanic experience preferred.
Knowledge of ski binding indemnification standards and tuning equipment preferred.
Experience with bicycle maintenance and repair, including suspension and hydraulic brake systems preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced luxury resort environment.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
