Being part of our kitchen staff means prepping, putting together, and serving delicious meals to up to 80 summer campers throughout the week. Our two available shifts are breakfast - lunch and lunch - dinner. You will be working as part of a team of three and in your off time you will get to enjoy YMCA Camp Miller and all the fun that there is to be had.
YMCA Camp Miller is a traditional overnight summer camp that sits on 340+ acres of beautiful forest and lake. Complete with hiking/biking trails, a lakefront, a climbing tower, zipline, and much more, we have everything you can imagine a summer camp would. We provide housing for the duration of your contract and food is provided when meals are being served to the campers. Pay is $400/week and weekends will always be Friday afternoon - Sunday morning. Camp Summary
Serving Duluth and the surrounding communities for more than 120 years, YMCA Camp Miller provides over 750 campers each summer with a first-class camp program. Nestled on 340 acres of pristine campgrounds, Camp Miller serves as a regional residential camp and conference/retreat center. Located in Pine County, in the town of Sturgeon Lake, Camp Miller provides a picture-perfect, all-inclusive Y camp experience unlike any other in Northern Minnesota and serves as a destination camp for the surrounding communities. Its large field, abundant trail system, horseback riding arena, and art/activity structures provide an environment that builds self-confidence, strengthens independence, and forges relationships. Summary/Objective
To assist the Food Service Manager in providing nutritious, well-prepared meals, which are served to all campers, staff, and guests.

Essential Functions
Assist in leading the daily operations of the camp’s food service.
Prepare and cook food as the menu indicates utilizing frying, boiling, broiling, steaming, roasting of meat, poultry, seafood, fish, vegetables, salads, soups, and gravies.
Prepare foods including washing and peeling.
Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.
Store food and leftovers at proper temperature with appropriate labeling.
Manage inventory, supply ordering, and monitor food quality.
Assist in leading the routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.
Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
Supervise the cleaning of prep, serving, and dining hall dishes.
Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle asindicatedthrough the camp’s procedures.
Work as a member of a food service team.
Coordinate and schedule job tasks with other cooks to make sure food is prepared on time.
Assist with supervising or directing the work of the dishwashers and prep cooks.
Collaboratively work to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the main building.

Work Environment
The usual work environment is one of a typical commercial kitchen with basic kitchen utensils. Most used equipment: commercial dishwasher, steam cooker, gas oven, convection oven, meat slicer, blenders, mixers, knives, toasters, steam table, and more.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee must have the ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing (60 minutes or more), bending, reaching, and lifting. The employee must also frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while unloading food, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a seasonal position that can be part time or full time. There are two separate shifts for the Lead Cooks depending on availability and needs of the kitchen. Those two shifts include 6 am – 1 pm and 12 pm – 7 pm and are subject to change. Employees must be able to work weekends and weekdays.
Travel
Camp Miller is located in Sturgeon Lake, MN. No travel while working is expected of the cooks.
Required Education and Experience
ServSafe Food Manager certification.
Experience in scratch cooking, catering, or food service setting.
Knowledge of standards of food preparation and serving, storage of food, and kitchen procedures.
Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices is essential.
Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods including vegetarian foods.
Knowledge of preparation and serving procedures in special cases such as food allergies.

Lake Superior YMCA - Camp Miller
Camp Miller is situated on 340+ acres of beautiful lakefront and wilderness property. We run a variety of programs during the summer months and are hoping to expand program offering for Retreat groups, Outdoor Education, Conferences, Weddings, and more.
